    One of the better granite peak videos I’ve seen! Well done!

      Thanks... we're no mediocre amateur but I try lol

    I find it interesting that Montana’s highest peak & Wyoming’s highest peak have really similar sounding names.

      Haha, I've actually never noticed that! We had to cancel our trip to Gannett this summer :/. Still hoping to make it out there and make a video for that next year.

      @@summitspecials Hopefully you can. Have you been to the highest points in any other states?

    Thanks a lot! Now Granite Peak is on my must do list, as if I can afford that!

    Fantastic vid! My goal is to highpoint at least 45 out of the 50 US states

    • @summitspecials
      @summitspecials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That ought to take a while lol. I don't know how many more state high points I'll collect, but I want to visit other mountain ranges more often. Cheers!

    13:44 How long was the rope?

    • @summitspecials
      @summitspecials  ปีที่แล้ว

      The rope was 60m total length. It was doubled over and the 30m was perfect for that rappell

    great video! thanks.
    On Aug 11, 2022 there was no obvious way the cross the creek flowing out of Princess Lake. we were stuck at the camp site. Probably would have circled around the west side of the lake if we would have gone further.

    • @summitspecials
      @summitspecials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We were fortunate the log jam was there to cross, but it still required some upper body to climb around. The next day, we went through thick brush and weren't sure where the best place to cross the stream that runs into the top of Princess Lake was. I'm still curious if there's a more convenient way to go around the west side of the lake, but I was honestly surprised how difficult that entire route was above Huckleberry.

      @@summitspecials we hope to try the peak again, but may do FTDP route instead. Have to carry the camp gear to higher elevation, though. I like the Princess Lake way; just wish the trail was better.

      @summitspecials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should! haha, the area has so much to offer even if you don't go for the summit :)

  • @xMrJanuaryx
    @xMrJanuaryx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not sure if you are aware but there is another route through what's known as the "froze to death plateau" which is much easier than the huckleberry route. Especially when your hiking in a lot of gear like that. Good job though!

    • @summitspecials
      @summitspecials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. We wanted to see the lakes and were excited to try fishing at 9000ft! Had no idea how cumbersome the boulder fields would be lol

    Great capture of your fun funny glissade in shorts! Definitely gave us some laughs. Do you ever wear boots?

    Great climb. Fantastic glissade! So it looked like 2 pitches of rappelling...? What length of rope do you recommend..?

    • @patricklaubacher2761
      @patricklaubacher2761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      just saw the end of the video. 60m.. great

    • @summitspecials
      @summitspecials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. Rappelling from above the "keyhole" near summit is just a fun option as there isn't much exposure there. Its worth taking the rope for that second rappell and I used the entire length. Cheers!

  • @apettys
    @apettys 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! How long was the rope you used to rappel?

  • @kramerschlaudt2279
    @kramerschlaudt2279 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Are there anchors/loops up top for the rappels?

    • @summitspecials
      @summitspecials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you may come across is slings or cordellette left by other climbers. No permanent anchors. I believe I set up my own sling for the first rappel. For the second, i used a sling that was already there. Inspected it to make sure it wasn't pinched between rocks, tattered, sun faded or otherwise damaged.
