I can’t believe this!!!! I almost bought this for my sewing room years ago and thought it was a crazy idea and now I’m super stoked to add this to my sewing space! Why I never follow my own gut instincts is beyond me but I’m never doubting myself again! Thank you for sharing
This room is so big! I sew in a hallway. It also contains my yarn and spinning fiber. Love that you have other hobbies. I’m primarily a knitter and spinner and just recently started quilting.
I don't know why, but I always enjoy seeing how other quilters have laid out their sewing areas. I am love with your design wall. What a great idea for those of us with absolutely no spare wall space! Thanks for sharing!
I love the little sneak peaks into other peoples spaces as well! Its always so interesting :). I'm glad you liked the design wall idea--it was a real lifesaver for my room :)
@@TinyOrchardQuilts thanks...your "stash" is to be envied👍 With CV19, I havent been to a fabric store in over 2 months 😢 ...however... I will have fun replenishing ... I need a "pet fabric" fix...LOL 😃😁😃
Cool design wall idea. My problem is I have so, so many windows (which I love and need for my mood), but very little wall space. I've been looking at portable stands, but this!? This I could put in front of my stair railing. Wish I could find one twice as wide, though. Thank you for sharing. The hunt for quilting organization always continues.
1:31 -- "I really love rulers." Yes, you do! A video on rulers would be interesting! What do you think are the absolute MUST HAVES in terms of sizes, features, non-skid surface, etc. What about tricks for use (washi tape, non-skid, etc.)? What about care and storage? You use a pegboard, so could tell us about that, but you might also share other ways you've stored them in the past? I have maybe 6 or 8 (not counting templates), but I find that I tend to use just 2-3 of them. That said, I am often tempted to get another one here or there for squaring to a particular size block or something along those lines. Keep up the great content, Megan. Great to see your number of subscribers on the rise! You deserve wider viewership! :)
That’s a great idea! I am like you-even with that pegboard full of rulers, there are a few that are my go to sizes! I’ll start working on that idea :) and thanks so much-it’s great to see my channel grow but the best part is just getting to interact with everyone!
This is amazing! I too have very limited space In my room. This definitely checks one of my boxes- box 2? Portable and collapsible screen print surface... hmm. Lol
I’d love to learn more about screen printing!! I have done some block printing and it was so much fun! I don’t know if my room can fit another hobby into it though 😂
Tiny Orchard Quilts it is so much fun. It is my first (fibre) love. I have my BFA in Fibre but my room is quite small so I want to turn my cutting table into a multifunctional space. I also do weaving but that’s in another room. May have to give that up for screen printing. I’m undecided.
GENIUS!! So awesome! Thanks for sharing. I have no wall space either. My ceilings are too high for this (converted my dining room with the recessed ceiling) but I have a Dream Box and I was thinking I can do something to the top to hang over. Brainstoming.
LOVE your design wall idea!! Very clever. I have a insulation board covered with batting in my sewing room downstairs. But since I work on hexie quilts upstairs in my living room, I put 3 command hooks on a nearby wall. When I want to work on my quilt that night, I put one of those plastic/flannel design clothes on the hooks, and spread my quilt on it so I can see where I want to add pieces. I am thinking about putting that somewhere else so it does not have to be taken down all the time. Someone could put hooks on the top of their fabric shelves and hang a design wall on it, when working. I really enjoy your videos. You are chock full of info, and ideas!!
Very clever idea. Just recently we moved and I no longer have my floor to ceiling storage with sliding doors with batting attached for a design wall that could hold a king size quilt....so this is a fabulous idea for my new small room. xxx
Another great idea for ruler storage is using a curtain rod (round rod type) using closing pinch clip shower hooks to slide rulers on the rod. You can sort rulers by shape and size. You could customize for limited space by using screw in cup hooks with wooden dowels coating the dowel with duct tape or plastic shower rod covers that can be cut to size. Works well in my limited space. I do, however, love peg board of any kind for tool storage.
Lovely sewing room! Very nice layout and love the disappearing design wall. My favorite color is green and I noticed your awesome green chair! Would you mind sharing where to get it? Thank you so much!
I had debated on doing exactly what you showed. But I still couldn't even bring myself to spend money on a projector screen, knowing I wasn't going to use it as a projector screen LOL So watching you do that, I think I could still come up with something with PVC that I could roll up and roll out just like you're doing the screen and it would still be even cheaper. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Someone in the comments also suggested one of those pull down patio shades! So smart! It’s really great to have for a sometimes design wall when I need it!
I wonder if you took the flannel down carefully, rolled it up with quilt blocks on it. This would be great if you were working on 2 quilts at once or just needed to take it down for whatever reason.
That sounds perfect! A wall or really stuff surface sure would be nice to have but I don’t know what I’d do with all my storage. And it is lovely to have a room to create in. I’m home with my kids full time and it’s such a relief to have a space of my own to recharge in.
I’m eyeing your green chair. Looking for a comfy chair for those endless hours of sewing and crafting. Where did you purchase and how well is it working for you? Love your space!
Its the Markus chair from ikea but sadly, it doesn't come in green any longer! www.ikea.com/us/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark-gray-90289172/ I've had it for...ages...maybe 10 years? I definitely love it :)
Did you say something about pinning fabric to comic book boards? Your wall of fabric looks so good, and I am wondering if you have done a TH-cam showing how you organize your fabric.
Hi Megan-I just found your TH-cam channel and I love it! The design wall is an excellent idea! What brand are the strong magnets and the screen? I'm going to ask my husband to put one up for me! Thanks again! Darlene
I’m so glad you liked it! It’s definitely been handy to have. :) As for the magnets-get ready for a hilarious amazon name: DIYMAG Super Strong Neodymium Fishing Magnets, 100 lbs(45 KG) Pulling Force Rare Earth Magnet with Countersunk Hole Eyebolt Diameter 1.26 inch(32 mm) for Retrieving in River and Magnetic Fishing - 6 P
@@TinyOrchardQuilts Thanks! That is quite a name. Some of the reviews of the screen were pretty bad-not sure if I should get this brand. But you haven't had any issues with it ripping or not going up, etc? Thanks again Megan.
Yes--I do. I originally tried to keep the batting attached to it but there wasn't enough clearance to roll it up into the housing of the screen. I do find that I tend to pin things to my design wall so I could probably take the batting off with all the blocks pinned to it if I wanted to keep things together and sorted.
An absolutely amazing idea! Love your sewing room :-) I have a question, if I may. My husband wanted to know what models of GoPro cameras are you using? Thanks :-)
I have three of them now-a 7 black, 8 black, and 9 black. The 9 has the best image for attaching to my longarm since it has the best stability. The other two I think have very similar images to each other. :)
You do mean that you're using a movie projector SCREEN, I assume. It's definitely not a movie projector, as you said. Hope it will slide down even closer to the floor, as that limited length sure wouldn't meet MY needs. Yes, you could use a larger piece of batting -- or heavyweight flannel works in a pinch -- but it wouldn't have anything to stabilize it behind the "wall." Your thoughts?
It’s definitely a screen-I obviously misspoke in the video! It comes pretty close to the floor-about 18” or so. It definitely isn’t as useful as a large full wall size design wall but I don’t have a wall to spare. The bar you pull it down with is pretty weighty, so it doesn’t flop around much when I’m using it.
To@@TinyOrchardQuilts -- Sounds good. I appreciate the clarification. Now to go searching for that old projection screen I KNOW I used to have. Wonder where it went?

The upside of organizing your room like you have is the acoustics are amazing!
My sewing "room" is only 6 feet x 10. This is a brillant solution that I will use. Thank you!
You have a lovely space for all your projects. One of the most important things I noticed was the natural light coming through the window!!!!
What a great idea! My gueat room/sewing space Loves you!!
Clever design wall! I would tweak your idea to use a fleece backed vinyl table cloth... need the batting for my quilts
❣👍❣👍❣
That’s really smart! I used batting because I had it on hand but a table cloth would be even easier to fold up and store!
