It's amazing this video came out since I literally just bought two Quince varieties yesterday!

The most informative quince video I've seen. Just bought one and the buds just started popping. Should I repot now like most shrubs? I only plan to slip pot it incase it's gonna flower.

Hi! Thanks for this video! Plan on getting one soon, but would like to know what kind of soil I need to use when repotting it out of its nursery pot?

The bigger tree is a Chinese quince (Pseudocydonia), the smaller one with the red flowers is a flowering quince (Chaenomeles)

Ya that trunk is wayyy to thick for it to be the chaenomeles

👍thank you for correcting his mistakes, he got me so confused about the thick quince. I was wandering why my flowering quince so thin after 15 years.

I’m in MD zone 7b, been into bonsai for about years and haven’t had much trouble taking care of trees but I just started getting quinces this spring and have had nothing but issues for some reason. Seems like fungal issues but can’t figure it out. Bayer 3 in 1 didn’t help

hello i made yamadori of the plant tre time bigger. I have a plant that will be 30\40 years old. Today I did yamadori. the plant has roots something around the initial plant on one side and then two or three taproots after a 20 cm, even large 3\5 cm in diameter. what I want to ask is, since I have to use the hacksaw, not to say chainsaw, to reduce the height of the root of the plant and remove those taproots that I will close with mastic. according to you, there is hope in the spring, even starting with drastic cuts, thanks

Mentioning cutting hard and back budding! When is the best time for that for flowering quince, I have one that I have been waiting with it, to do major trunk chop.. my research says late summer! But I thought I could check with you! I am just worried it might not back bud :)

I just repoted mine from organic soil to bonsai soil, but the tree had some leafs already. Do you think I will be ok.
Or is it best to repot when the tree has no leafs?
    Thank you.

The general suggestion is to repot when the (leaf) buds just start to swell. Then the tree won't have to support big leaves with a reduced root system, but has used a lot of the energy stored in the roots during dormancy in forming the leaf buds (so that energy won't get lost when reducing the roots).

Any chance of you considering making a video on reworking badly grown junipers? I took in several junipers that were badly styled by someone who had no idea how the trees should have been styled for bonsai, and even though they are healthy, the have no pads. Instead, the branches were bared back leaving a "grouping" or a foliage "bunch" at the ends.. Hard to explain. Sort of like topiary? These "bunches" are growing straight up, so the branches of the trees look like the foliage is facing up?? Hard to explain. These are nice, 15 maybe 20 year old trees, I just dont have enough experience to know how to restyle them safely so that they can begin growing pads instead of bunches of foliage reaching up like tulips...I cant seem to find any videos of anyone showing this and how to fix it. Or, maybe they cant be saved?

Never buy a tree from Eastern leaf. Terrible quality, not the size that was described, and the customer service was far worse than the pathetic tree I got from them.

I 100% agree with your comment. I wanna say they get most of their trees imported from China.
