This past winter (2023/2024) my wife and I spent 3 months in Ecuador, our third winter there. But this last time was my first foray into trail running and hiking (I'm a cyclist). We were in the Loja region near Malacatos for two months and I went running almost every morning, gaining so much endurance, losing weight. This awesome video brings back so many recent and good memories.
The cinematography, music selection and story composition of this video is as incredible to me as the actual trail running itself. A pleasure to watch.
"Sometimes in trail running there's not much of either" Haha I'll have to remember that one. The landscape here feels incredibly special especially that description of the deeper greens and the lighter green vegetation due to the volcano's. I almost forget looking at these areas as well just how high the plateau they sit on actually is above sea level. Thank you for documenting so much footage and producing it for us as always.
Jeff, another beautiful film - as always :) I'll keep repeating... since I can't travel or do these types of adventures, I'm super grateful to see the world and the hiking/running trails thru your awesome work. I have my moments when I get really sad and may tear up due to current circumstances, but those moments are well worth pushing through so that I can experience the trails and the beauty through well-done films. Thank you! 🙌👏
Nicely done. I'm a trail runner. I lived in Ecuador for 3 years and I've been back and forth every year or so over the last 20 to 25 years. You hit a lot of my favorite places. Very nice trip. Congratulations!
We ran some of those trails a few years back. Stayed at Black Sheep Inn, got a car to Quilotoa Lake and ran back (roughly a marathon if I remember correctly). Definitely recommend!
Just found your channel love the positivey a couple of weeks ago i was air lifted to the hospital before that i was training for my full in duluth i was put in a medial coma for about 4 days they said i was at least suppose to be there for two weeks i started getting back to myself and walking now im running again and still planning on racing in june :) showing people that no matter what set backs you have keep getting up and fighting :)
"it's hard to talk while walking" - jeff pelletier, a very very experienced ultra trail runner 😁 you may have just outdone yourself with this video (and with this experience, i imagine), unbelievable scenery, outstanding views! thanks for putting this one together, thoroughly enjoyed it!
beautiful adventure. Your videos remind trail runners that its about adventure as well. I think every trail runner should devote one week per month of running to new trails one has never been on, as well as the occasional trek to some place far away. Keep up the inspiring work.
Jeff, your channel helped inspire me to take up running/trail-running a little over a year ago. Last week, I ran my first half-marathon trail race. Thank you, and congrats on 100k subs.
Amazing how much the conditions change on the mountain (from snow at the top to dry dirt at the bottom). Same thing happens here in Colorado, but still interesting to see. Awesome video and thank you for sharing it with us!
Nice video. I wish you could have included at the end a small report of the best gear to have before you go on a trip like this. For an example shoes, shirt, bug spray???
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to suggest trying trail running in Mount Bromo, East Java, Indonesia. The landscapes are stunning, with volcanic sands, green hills, and majestic mountains. The sunrise view from the top is spectacular and worth the early effort. Bromo offers trails for all levels, from short scenic runs to challenging longer routes. It’s a great way to experience Indonesia’s natural beauty and push your limits. Give it a try - I think you'll love it!
😂 i just had a little grin on my face from start to finish knowing i was watching it for the second time ,but honestly it was so worth it as i had missed some epic views , and jeff pelletier i quote " its so difficult to talk and walk " .. lol 😂 said the world famous ultra runner and videographer 😂😂😂 .. brilliant 😂
Sat down to dinner and did my usual ,quick flick onto youtube to find something to watch while enjoying my culinary delights , darn lucky i got finding this from jeff pelletier 😂 .. though i did miss some bits washing up and doing after work chires before the next day , so .. guess i just have to watch it again now ive sat my ass down properly . Lol win win 😂 ❤
I broke my ankle once , few years ago ( just put my foot into a Rut on the path and toppled sideways ) on a scottish Highlands Run.. miles away from The road or Help , it would have been an EMERGENCY HELICOPTER RESCUE off the Trail and to Hospital if i didnt have my poles on my backpack , i managed to use them as crutches and got myself out of trouble and back to the city , not what they were designed for but a great thing to have just in case , one of those other uses they might be used for 👍
This one was a little slower than most given the altitude, but we always take lots of breaks to regroup and for photos. Our goal is for it to feel more like a ‘running vacation’ rather than a training camp.
Hey Jeff! Can you tell us what size shirt you’re wearing just as a reference point? I think I’m about your height but a little thicker through the middle and bottom so probably size up from there lol
Actually after reviewing the sizing guide on your website my wife has asked for a better sizing guide completely lol - just some consumer feedback - really want a shirt but don’t want to mess up the sizing.

What an amazing advertisement for planning an adventure like this someday!
Thank you Jeff for sharing these amazing videos, I took a bad fall on my Sunday run and this video was a pleasant distraction after a day of bad news.

I love that you film the dogs and other animals! So cute!
Excellent video! The entire trip looked amazing, but the volcano climb is a bucket list item for sure!

Man the world is beautiful and so much bigger than there are roads. Beautiful, brought a tear to my eye. I have to join one of these trips one day..
The visuals are so good, thanks to the camera you are using, it captures everything so beautifully and crisp.
Love this!!! Trail running is like life, each person creates their own path ♥
I have seen this film 4 times and counting... 😆 love your spanish Jeff 👌

The shrimp ceviche was delicious!
“Since the volcanic activity has increased, it’s now open to climb and have fun.” 🤣
*decreased :P
Congratulations on 100k. Another amazing film. I would seriously go to Ecuador just to pat those dogs lol.
they were all so cute but unfortunately also covered with fleas :P

how can we join to such retreat?
Stay tuned to the newsletter - for each trip, we launch a landing page with all the details.
Looks like an interesting place to run. Maybe I missed it, but how many miles did you do in total?
we did about 65km, with a lot of climbing.
11:50 been there one month before you and literally passed this old bloke at the same spot😂
Hah, too funny!
Jeff, what brand is your white bucket hat? I've been looking for one like it
It’s the Ciele BKThat
I have to say.... the FOMO is itensifying everytime you post another one of your vagabond trails trip/adventure!
Did the guide say Cotopaxi can be summited again?
That’s my understanding, yes.
Is running/hiking with poles just for balance? Or does it help with other things aswell?
It lowers the effort required and strain on your leg muscles, even more important I find when hiking at altitude.
@@JeffPelletier ohh, thanks. Then i might try it some day, and se if it makes a differens. I bet it will help when wearing a heavy backpack too.

what kind of pace do these runs usually maintain?

Hey Dane, I’m wearing a medium which fits quite long on me at 6’ (the way I like it), but it is a fairly slim fit.
@@danegreenwell2589 thanks for the feedback. We'll try to add some sort of sizing guide shortly (especially when/if we add women's apparel) ;)
@@audreelafreniere2258 My wife and I could have MATCHING JP Shirts!!! As always we the viewers appreciate the response to comments - you two rock!
It must be a tricky moral quandary to be concerned about the glacier melting while also flying from around the world to see it.
