However, there is a chance that there is a calibration issue, or I just am supposed to be hitting the action command much earlier or later than similar games and muscle memory is killing me. In the _second_ case, beginners to the genre may ironically perform them better, and veterans have to unlearn memory which isn't really a polish issue.

I love tiny Tinder! And all the rest. It's a neat premise. I wonder if we'll gather supporters for our cause? I do like that we added onto skills as time went on, it felt like it did that fairly well. I can see the need for some editing possibly, but overall solid style.
This looks like a very polished game and I would LOVE to get the full version when it comes out. ...though it probably won't happen on my "weapon of choice", the Swicth. I sincerely doubt that Nintendo wants the competition. 😅
Hey, you never know! Bug Fables is on the Switch which is very Paper Mario-esque and it personally charmed me a lot. It genuinely lifted my spirits in a big way.
The characters always had the choice to live the story they wanted to live. Yes they lived at the stories the authors wrote but they also lived out their own lives. This corporation is taking away their freedom, not giving it. It's like in the real world modernity is taken away taste, culture, and fun.
The art is really good. And so is the story-telling. But I think there needs to be more gameplay in the opening sequence to break up the exposition. It's important for games like this to maintain player interest. Too much text and not enough play can make people anxious to skip past dialogue. For example, they could have done something cute like have maintenance being done in the hallway leading to Mr. Moon's office, and the player would be directed to a slightly more dangerous way to get there, which takes him past some small enemies or traps. Give a hint about what gameplay is like, give a small reward, and then go back to exposition. (Can even give the excuse after he makes it past the traps that this side adventure was part of the job interview process.) Since this game is styled after paper mario, it's worth observing that paper mario does that kind of thing all the time. Exposition are usually treated like MacGuffins that the player needs to go on small adventures to get to.
With how long this opening sequence is, it really needs multiple gameplay "breaks". Even after the character was done interacting with Mr. Moon, I really expected the next part to open up gameplay, but it didn't. It just lead to more exposition.
They did fix the timing on some of the Enemy attacks because some were easy to time while others were hard to remember or time correctly. But for most people it's just a skill issue and requires a lot of timing But honestly I have never played any Paper Mario like games before so it's nice actually play something similar to it

I dunno. I'm getting Kings of Hell vibes with the probable villains where it seems like 80% of them are fat. Also, I feel like I'd like it more in general if the lead wasn't a human.
Game looks mechanically fun, and the art style is great, but it desperately needs a rewrite. So many words that say so little. For instance, the conversation with Mr. Moon should've been way quicker. All it really says is: 1) we're a protagonist in a storybook with an author 2) the author decided we want to fight tinder 3) the real world is a separate place 4) ever after inc knows how to enter storybooks 5) mr moon and everyone else used to be children's book characters 6) the building is no longer tinder's Mr. Moon should talk like a corporate drone, since that's the voice you put on when you want to make horrible behavior sound respectable. Like "Tinder transferred ownership of this facility to us in an acquisition." He should use a lot of buzzwords, so that he can say synergy and then we can go OHHHHH when we learn about the Synergy Points mechanic. He should try to entice us with their vision plan, so we can go OHHHHH when the Three Blind Mice talk about their amazing vision plan. Since the Mice re-explain all this anyway, he should talk in coded language so we can speculate about what he means. I like the personality they gave Tinder but her writing is so repetitive. For instance. "Once I get off this collar device that was forced around my neck, I'll be back to my normal, imposing size. And I certainly won't need to be fighting alongside my sidekick here." Not only are these lines way too many words (try "when i get this collar off, you're toast") they're 100% redundant. We've already established: 1) the collar wasn't her choice 2) it weakens her fire 3) she's surprisingly small 4) she's not happy to be with us 5) WE are actually part of HER party The whole demo is written like this, it's a bummer. The game deserves better.

I think that he means polished in the way that the game actually looks like it was made by a triple-A studio from Nintendo.

The recommendations at the end of the vid honestly was a great touch. Maybe worth revisiting the idea as a potential ending format.
I think the game does indicate which character is getting hit, it makes the one not getting hit darker.
