Ah, a relic from when America actually had a strong national identity and stood for something. Maybe if we could recapture those days, we could get somewhere.
Agreed, I remeber in the 1st grade everyday they would play the national anthem and every now and then the unofficial anthem and every body would stand, show respect, and then we would say the pledge, but now *(Im in highschool, or was before covid) only a handfull of kids will say the pledge, and everyone else will just talk, stay seated, or ignore it. It's just sad. They don't play the anthem at all, and when they lead the pledge on the intercom or whatever, because thats what they do at my school at least, its not even at the correct pace, and they go over it like they just want to get it over with. I understand that you have the right to not do any of that, but you have that right because of the people who fought and died for this country, and everyone should at least understand that.
I think it struck me so hard because people don’t think of it as “our” anthem anymore. The country is so sharply divided and a big chunk of folks don’t want to be associated with it any longer. Breaks my heart.
From the waters of Pearl Harbour December 7th, 1941 to the sea off Midway Island, to jungles of quadacanal ,Island of new Britain, Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima ,Okinawa phillipines china SW Pacific finally to Tokyo bay. The greatest days of this country were during the time we flew the 48 star flag which was from about 1912 through 1960. And it was the flag that flew in WW2. This is not meant as a criticism of Alaska and Hawaii's admission to Union. But it seems like so many problems have arisen in this country since 1960.
@@stephenkammerling9479 Out of curiosity, what is it specifically that makes that period the peak for you? From sea to shining sea. The battle of Iwo Jima was bloody and but a day of freedom. D-day was a even more bloody day but Americans stand tall and never give up. America is a free country with loving people..

Not Quebeckers and Canadiana, unfortunately. It may not look like it at first glance, but we are tired of being Under the fist of England! One day, we will become a land! We were there first, you know!
For many years, WPIX in New York had a film along these lines - only 50 stars were on the flag, and the "SSB" version was from the U.S. Army Band as recorded in the 1960's - as seen on sign-ons and sign-offs. But the camera angle and the flag flying - plus the sky outside - were similar to here.
