My first boyfriend had the tendency to use his fists on his girlfriends. He hit me once, and I was done. I was 17 years old, went to the police and got as far away from him as possible. Took some time until I would trust men again but getting away and dealing with it made me stronger. And made me realise that I had a choice. He got into a lot of trouble with the police. Wasn’t easy to report it, because back then I kind of felt like it was my fault that I made him hit me. BS of course. And I got out so quickly because I was raised differently. It’s amazing that you guys offer to help people who experience domestic violence. Made me love you guys even more. Loved the song and your reaction.

It is on both her album and played on country stations. His album also as a solo with bon Jovi. In the video Bon Jovi is backing them up. Good vid. Leaving isn’t the hardest part. It’s staying gone and going “gray rock”, if you have kids together. You should also check out “Evangeline” by Little Big Town. Honestly, these songs help so much. There’s 4 songs that helped me to stay away from my abuser and absolutely leave finally. “His Hands” and “Me Without You” by Nettles were two that I had to play to remind myself this isn’t okay but I WILL be. Wow, I hadn't heard this one, love your reaction! Leaving can be tough, it felt like I was failing somehow, but when he almost killed me all I could think was 'what if he turns on the kids.' As soon as I was healed enough to physically pick up the kids, I left with nothing but us and the clothes we were wearing and didn't look back.
Been there done that. Took me 4 1/2years and two babies to get out. Mine was when he shoved our boys for trying to get him off me. We lived way out in the country, nearest neighbor was 5 miles away. I saddled my horse put my boys on her and lead her to that neighbor's. Called my folks that hadn't been allowed to see for over a year and said come get us. He would have killed me . I'm glad you got out , I wish more could. It is not as easy as people think.

FINALLY! I’ve asked for this from the beginning. I said you would love the song. I said the lyrics are well written…they take a turn you don’t expect! I said you would hate the subject matter but be satisfied with the message to get out especially coming from the perspective of another women who got out! I was in a teenage 4 year relationship & navigating getting help & speaking about it wasn’t easy! I had the support & protection of 1 of his friends & a persistent officer who did what he could to guide me! I got out! I am forever grateful to those 2 people for they’re help & guidance & protection when they were around!! I stood up to him in the end & he was out to kill me…I ran to another state & met my future husband of 32 years! I am sadly divorced & that is heart wrenching! But your not here to be my therapists! I said in the future I will send you a bottle of our local bourbon when i am able. Thanks for being Real Men & respecting women & speaking truths, not just about this subject but other things as well! My recommendation for Jennifer Nettles would be (UNLOVE YOU ) try the studio version! ✌🏻☀️🇺🇸

And I didn't tell either my dad or brother because just him grabbing me that briefly would have been enough set then off and I didn't want them arrested.

I fell down, I was in disbelief. But I bounced up like the f*cking clown in a box and punched him right back. Broke his nose and my own knuckle. He would've probably beaten me up, but luckily our friends were there. I moved away immediatly. I've worked in social care for almost 20 yrs and I understand, why women stay...but I still kind of don't? 🤷🏻♀️

When you are 16 years old, married, with a newborn baby, it is not always easy to get out. He is threatening your family and has already killed your pet dog just to hurt you. He tells you things that scare you to death to tell anyone or even try to run away. Sometimes it just isn't that easy. By the grace of God, my ex was arrested for burglary and I was able to get free because of that. My lessons are many from that experience but the first thing I would like to say is to younger girls...."DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH "BAD BOYS".

I was 17, married and pregnant. Thankfully, God stepped in and had him arrested for some burglary's he had done. Another man has never touched me again like that!!

Back in the day when it was always the woman's fault, it was never easy to escape. He threatened to kill my Mom and brother, slaughtered my dog and I did not know what to do. I was 17, married and pregnant. Thankfully, God stepped in and had him arrested for some burglary's he had done. Another man has never touched me again like that!!

both women are great....especially Jennifer...as strange as it sounds I know a man who was abused..it isn't always physical abuse..verbal abuse hurts too ..accusing people of doing things to ruin them is also horrendous.I know its usually women that need to leave but sometimes women are as evil ..no one should have to live with abuse
