Sometimes you just have to hand it to the opposition and say England played the better game and deserved to win. The 6/2 bench split backfired due to injuries in the Irish backfield and Ireland famed cohesiveness was stretched to the limit. They did amazingly well just to stay in the game really. I'll take a one point loss away from home so long as we get the win next week. Everyone loses at some time. Learn the lesson, get better and move on. Still a championship up for grabs.

Marcus smith important contribution wasn't the drop goal (penalty waiting) but the tackle that made Lowe score in the corner instead of running closer to the posts and making the conversion that much harder..

What was that rubbish at 3:13 about Lawrence being cited for an arm-to-face tackle?
It is the Irish player's arm in his face as Lawrence makes the tackle.
Lawrence's arm is actually on the Irish player's forearm as he makes the tackle.

I know it’s a joke about Ford making tackles but he actually is always very close to the top of tackle stats and normally highest of the backs.
I mean admittedly everyone runs at him because he’s little but the man does tackle a lot.

First time watcher, now subscriber. As an Irish fan, must admit England were great. Probably best I've seen from them since 2019 RWC semi final.
Only argument I'd make against you is Murray wasn't wrong to kick it out. 90 seconds in your own 22m at the only time of the game when a ref is watching how players are arriving to a ruck is a very long time. By putting it out of the field, forced England back whilst the clock is still running.

@@TheBlackJersey I hope France will be playing like their usual 2020-2023 self from this point on now thats the only thing missing 😬. As for the TRC, I think it's really good as well but the thing hurting it the most imo is the fact that the All Blacks wins it nearly all the time nowadays (except during the World Cup years for some reasons lol. Maybe its due to the format ?).

Hi Max, that drop goal by Marcus Smith wasn’t what lots of people are cracking it up to be. England had two penalty advantages coming to them at that time and Marcus knew that. Now, there’s no denying that when any number 10 is presented with a gilt edged opportunity like that right up close in front of the posts, they’re going to go for it. After all, for somebody at that level it’s a relatively simple shot. But it’s certainly not the same as Jonny Wikinson’s shot to win the World Cup in 2003 or Johnny Sexton’s shot in France in 2018. They were infinitely more difficult shots that just had to be made.
Anyway, fully deserved win by England, even though “…one swallow a summer does not make…”. Congratulations and best wishes to all of them, players and coaches for the future. I’m really looking forward to next weeks France v England confrontation. Realistically it could go either way. However, I just feel that the French, with a new hero in Nolann Le Garrec, have emerged from their post World Cup stupour.

As an England supporter, that was on a par with some of the daft decisions our players have made over the years. NZ or SA would not have done this. They'd have played a few phases, kicked the ball out, and left with a win; a messy win, but a win.

Nice analysis. I don’t get the praise and hype for this drop goal though? England had a penalty advantage under the posts, and Smith slotted a drop from 10 meters out. Game was over regardless. Unfair to give Smith the praise and headlines for this win

    • @TheBlackJersey
      @TheBlackJersey  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Setting up a drop goal is a multi-phase process, as I’ve shown in past videos. Takes some careful planning, Smith pulled it off with great game management and that’s what made the difference.
Ford is being picked for game management, yet neither side really had much of a kicking game going on 😅

I'm English, I watched the match 2003 in Australia where I was working at the time. Do Australians have nightmares about drop goals? Now will the Irish have nightmares about drop goals? Now I have a serious question. I played Rugby in the 1970s, the drop goal was an important part or the rugby armoury in Britain. It is VERY difficult, normally close to the poles. However the top players could dropkick near the halfway line - Look at J P R Williams. Back to my question. Is it just the British that play like that?

in answer to your question about why england have so many coaches: they don't.
Jonny Wilkinson, George Kruis, and Strawbridge were all in temporary roles. Strawbridge was with the team for 3 weeks and has now left; Kruis and Wilkinson I think were only with the squad for a couple of days each. Additionally, Richard Hill serves as a player mentor for some of the emerging back row players, but other than that his role is not a coaching role.
