Our galaxy is positioned near the center of a massive cosmic void known as the KBC void or the Local Hole. This void, which stretches an incredible 2 billion light-years across, challenges some of the most basic ideas in cosmology. The existence of such a vast empty space raises big questions about the Big Bang, how galaxies are spread out, and the very nature of the universe’s expansion. However, the most intriguing part is that this void could help explain two of astronomy’s biggest puzzles: the Hubble Tension and the Fermi Paradox.

It is amazing how cosmologists come up with a new theory or hypothesis, when the previous one sucks for some reason. Why does it feel like they have come up with a new fib, when the old one failed to convince your parent?
Lol, we live in the rural area of the universe! That explains A LOT!
That may well be a good thing. Wouldn't want any giant space traveling intelligent bugs finding out where we live.
yes those damn techy mega city aliens stepping all over our grass
The Aliens call our galaxy - Cletus ! from hill-billy dark swamp void.
Probably for a reason.
We were so useless that they put us here 270,000 years ago
Maybe some civilization put us here, because this is universe's jail. Even if we re-discover technology, the chances for leaving the area are still slim! And the UFOs we see? Wardens 😱
Today I felt a little lonely, but after watching this video I feel even much lonelier...

This is not a problem it is a blessing:
1) We are abe to see back in time far away, as we are in a dark place.
2) We are alive as we are far away from deadly radiation.
We have studied 20 million stars, and not one can support life as they are ALL too unstable, we are alone. The Sun is the only stable star. Also of the 4,300 solar system studies, not one looks like our solar system, able to support life. The Milky Way Galaxy is the only stable barred spiral galaxy. In other galaxies, there is no place for a rocky planet without deadly radiation or orbit interference. Earth’s vast and stable magnetic field is unique, most planets the magnetic field is short-lived or unstable. Earth’s magnetic field protects life from deadly radiation. The list can go on and on (rotation rate, astrosphere, right carbon dioxide, low carbon monoxide, one large moon, very low eccentricity). There are 5,759 confirmed exoplanets, not one looks like Earth or any of the planets in our solar system. Also needed for complex life are Solar System's belts. Only our system as solar system's belts. Most systems have not belts and a few have only one large belt. The belts give us near circular orbit. We have looked and we are alone.
Amazing, informative comment.
Crazier thing is our solar system had two habitable planets at one time (Mars).
@@Heir_2D_Empire There is no sign that life was on Mars. Evidence shows Mars was once warmer and wet about 4 billion years ago, that is about 560 million years after the formation of Mars. Mars quickly, over a 1 to 12 million year time span, lost its water, becoming cold and very dry.
We don't understand gravity or magnetic forcing, how can we understand anything else beyond without understanding the basic forces which we know exist.
Tell that to the idiots in here that think "We'll never be alive when their or our signals reach them".
Who says they even use tech that travels from A to B? Who says they even use tech as we even define "technology"?
They could, for all we know, use universal laws that we view as "supernatural" or "superstitious mumbo jumbo".
Who says they even exist or think or operate in 3 or 4 dimensions like we do?
It's not only an ignorant way of thinking, it's foolish to think in such a manner.
We are so small and distances are so huge that we will probably never be able to communicate in the time left in the life of human civilisation. Lifespans, time, distances, and light speed are natural filters which forbids interaction.
You're thinking in forms of sending signals at the speed of light.
What makes you think they even think the same way?
This is like Westerners trying to understand Buddhism when they think in concepts of "gods" or "atheism" which is not an Asian mindset at all.
Hobbes of Calvin and Hobbes fame, not the other Hobbes, suggested the best evidence of intelligent life on other planets is that they haven’t tried to contact us.
Andromeda is at 2.5 millions Lightyears only ... in the same "void" ... how many other galaxies in that same "void"
There are 20 to 30% fewer galaxies in the KBC void, compared to other areas of the observable universe.
There are still about 400 trillion galaxies in the void but they are separated by about 8 million lightyears whereas non-void areas have galaxy separated by only about 1 million light years. These are averages.
Bootes void has about 60 galaxies 😇

2:02 "...how could it explain why we haven't received a message from another civilization yet.": Who says "WE" haven't?
Great video. Full of interesting ideas. I'm a little skeptical that the void impacts Fermi’s Paradox. A 20 percent reduction in galaxy density is significant, but we hardly live in an empty space. There is still high potential for other advanced civilizations in our galaxy and still millions of galaxies around us. Plenty of opportunities for life to exist and develop.
Perhaps we have been isolated for a REASON. i mean, look at us! Cancer of the Galactic Void...
Yes, I am joking. Probably...
@thesoundsmith your reason would imply the reason is because they knew how we would be and makes no sense to create a world that's dangerous to its creators.
I can even imagine advanced species in a super-populated area of the universe studying space and thinking, "Nah, there's just a big empty space there. The chances of life existing there are minimal. Let's look somewhere else..." lol
Who says they're not a type 3+ civilization that can manipulate entire galaxies or universes and this is all on purpose?
How do we know?
We don't!
Actually, earth is reputed to be located in a 'slum housing' area of the Milky Way, and when crafts pass nearby, parents darken their windows so their children can't look out.
Also, just FYI....in the late 60's I was working in my unheated shop in early Dec, decided to go into my house and grab a cup of hot coffee. On the way in, something caused me to glance up just in time to see a classic 'Flying Saucer' fly low and slow directly over my house...could have easily 'pinged'it with a slingshot and that craft never made a whisper.
Because of this, I have attended the McMenamens UFO Convention three times, although for me it is an 800 mile drive one way. There I've mingled and chatted with many others, who just like me, want to find out what is really happening.
It is said our government is fully aware of what is going on, but has been reluctant to disclose out of fear of the 'religious right'...that we are NOT either the sole life within this enormous universe, nor some ethreal God's creation. I say "Disclose and let the chips fall wherever they may.....If the religious cannot handle it, well tough! Let them learn some REAL truth for a change! BHE
andromeda is 2 million lightyears away, not 2 billion
There is a void around us on purpose. I mean, if there is intelligent life out there that has conquered space travel, they probably seeded humans as far away from them as possible.
Ugh. I'm tired of living in the zoo, come back and fix your shit
And what if we exist because of the less chaos?
Wish I could replant some of these seeds I meet everyday into the void 😂

That would assume they knew we were going g to be violent and ignorant, so why create us in the first place. It's totally a waste of time and energy.

We'd never get a message from another galaxy no matter how populated. The entire notion is ridiculous. Why aren't we getting signals from any star system in the Milkyway?
Because our current search has only been a peak out the window with blinders on. No different then taking 10oz of water from an ocean looking for life and not using a microscope or other tools besides our eyes.
Why are you thinking in terms of radio waves and signals?

That's probably why every stars and galaxies we see are soo far away and it's like we can only see them but not go to them, a huge void seperating milky way and those other galaxies
We cannot even see them as they are now, only way back.
Probably a Magellanic or nebula cloud between our vantage point and other stars. Really not that big of a deal. Come on guys. And there are not a certain number of galaxies, they are countless.
Space is 3d or really 4d so just b3cause you can't understand doesn't make scary. As a picture of the voids on a screen looks like you can see the edge or border doesn't mean anything because it's lightyears deep who knows what's at the end.....

From bum to doorknobs? Yeah, I get it.
Probably.
And we are probably kept in the dark for a reason.
For sinister purposes, scientific purposes, reasonable purposes, benign purposes or purposes our feeble minds cannot understand.
I knew it! We've been put in time out!
Who says we were ever a player to begin with?
If I was building a virtualised simulation, this is exactly how I'd build it. It is convenient that just where we are, there isn't quite as much going on. This reduces the resources needed to run it, yet gives lots of things for the virtual beings to look at in awe 🤣
We’re not just alone, but we’re all alone and by our self 😮
If heat waves are siphoned away from their path by intense external magnetic fields, it would appear as a void. If heat waves don't collide with mass there is no refraction of reflection bouncing off mass as atmospheres. The heat hits our atmospheres or telescopes and shows the path of least resistance. Heat curves and has various speeds. Mass is the cosmic speed limit of magnetism bonding grounding currents through its nucleus or core like earth's quantum accumulation of amplification of magnetism as earth's internal magnetic field grounding currents through its nucleus or core. Elements are quantumized internal magnetic fields grounding currents through its nucleus or core. Centrifugal force held in as magnetism.
The thing about entropy is there always seems to be a higher-order “closed system” to fall back on when the models don’t match.
Fermi Paradox, Where is everybody? Well, it's really simple. In the beginning a Galactic Memo was sent out, simply saying 'Free Beer', and we didn't get the memo.
So you're suggesting that there's no life among the billions of stars in our Galaxy but if there were more galaxies a mere million light years away they would come looking for us in an entirely different galaxy from their own. Then WE must really be special and THEY must really be advanced.
We are not in a void! We're moving away from the Local Void at 600,000 miles per hour. To get the picture strait: the Milky Way is part of the Local Group which in turn is part of a larger cosmic structure known as the Local Sheet, which is part of the one of the largest structures in the universe, the Laniakea Supercluster. And it's Laniakea that is situated ON THE EDGE of the Local Void.
Quite a difference isn't it? (Especially on a cosmic scale! 😄).
"The Local Hole"
..Like.. For real? The planet's best and brightest minds sat around a table, trying to determine a fitting name - and they came up with THAT?
Huh? Andromeda, Pin Wheel, Virgo super cluster...the Great Attracter..nah, not convinced. Now Lanikea and more whispy stuff like it, yeah, but not a void for us.
They are out there trying to communicate with us, just as we are trying to communicate with them, but the distances are too great.
Informative and intriguing episode!! 👍🌌💫❤️
My ex has a huge void 🤐
We must have the same ex.😂
@@scubasteve3032We all must have the same ex then
Its interesting because The Elder Scrolls describes the solar system which Nirn is in as being "suspended in Oblivion"
So oblivion is just a gigantic void which gods had built things in. Like how space isnt nothing necessarily. Compared to outside of the universe, which is substanceless void... Space is not substanceless. Space is a creation, a foundation for energy.
We even call the void we are suspended in a void but it's not. It's space, because it contains energy. A void by definition could not contain any energy because no space would exist for it
Actually, this void provides no explanation for the Fermi paradox. There are still enough regions close to our position in the universe, with billions of galaxies, stars, and planets...
We can not even fathom the actual physics behind our universe. Quantum mechanics suggests that we got many things wrong along the way, like the 'String theory'. Scientists who work/ed on ST just complicated and complicated things and when they got nowhere they should of start from scratch.
I bet the inner works of our universe and everything in it is genuine simplicity, so much so that nobody even thought about it.
Absence of proof does not equal proof of absence.
If you take a spherical area of empty space the size of the solar system, and compress it into the size of a basketball, what would that look like? Are there enough atoms in that space to make a solid? Or a gas? If you passed a beam of light thru that sphere would it slow that beam down just a little? Like it does going thru water or glass? If that beam slows down even an immeasurable amount, now figure how much it might slow going thru a much larger area. From distances millions of light years across. Maybe the universe isnt expanding, it just looks like it is because the light is slowing down causing the red shift, or Hubble Constant. Maybe things are just a bit simpler than they seem.
I hope we continue to fund scientific research. This wave of anti-intellectual sentiment is going to slow down our progress towards understanding the universe. I wish we lived in a society where people care more about gaining knowledge than how much money they can make. It's probably a good thing that we don't have the ability to expand to other planets and star systems. We would just bleed those places dry like we do to this planet.
The writing is on the wall.

See anything cool yet?
Hmmm... this take on the Fermi paradox doesn't make sense to me. Since we're currently severely limited as to our ability to receive and process faint radio signals emanating even from within our OWN galaxy, it doesn't matter whether or not we are in a Huge Cosmic Void. We could be shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of other galaxies and it wouldn't make any difference.
I hope that the purpose was that the universe felt something that one day humanity will be so toxic and self destructive that it sent all seeds of life as far away from us as it was possible.
seems like the creator missed the UAP hearings
Lol, that's a fun way to put it! If we live in the rural area of the universe, it might explain why we haven't seen any aliens or grand galactic civilizations yet. Maybe we're just on the cosmic equivalent of a quiet country road-away from the hustle and bustle of the more populated parts of space! The universe is so vast and unknown, who knows what other civilizations or phenomena are out there, just waiting to be discovered. What do you think?
I much prefer living in a rural area myself.
Our physical existence always creates a problem unless we reveal our true nature.
If they are more advanced than us, radio signals may be very old technology.
The red shift isn't because of a "doppler" (like) effect, its because when we look into far distances we are also "looking backward in time"......HENCE a more dense/tightly packed, "hotter" universe. Its only natural that when you look at further away objects they look "more red". The further away they are, the "redder"/hotter they look.
The model we use is flawed. The only thing I know for certain is the more we discover the more we find out "how wrong" we were before.
Just like when I was a kid we were going to go into another iceage, then a couple decades later it was "global warming", now its "climate change". No sh!t Sherlock, the climate is ALWAYS changing.
I ONLY trust the science that can't be used for government control/power.
Man……WHAT THE HELL IS SPACE??!!?!?!
Space alone, of 0 mass' matter and magnitude is just a shadow' time is just a manmade construct (tool) used to measure mass' matter and magnitudes. Space itself does not curve' stretch or bend'(again'its just a shadow). Electromagnetic fields that permeate through space' work by pressure mediation' and are what's doing all the curving' stretching and bending. E.M. fields in the universe create mass' matter' magnitude and time by attracting and repelling. The smaller the space' the higher the capacitance.(Vortex vector)' The stronger the E.M. field' the smaller the field distance, hence the reason black holes over throw their ability to stay within this universe down to 0 Cartesian coordinance.
Keeps us safer if they exist. Human nature if projected on others wouldn't want to run into us ...
What do you mean, "Where are they" They are Here, They have been visiting our planet for Thousands of years.
If we zoom out enough in the universe, it kinda looks like the neutral pathways in the human brain.
If there's intelligent life out there, my guess is that it's already aware of us, has studied us, and come to the logical conclusion that we are like the drunk homeless person you encounter on the street: step around and avoid.
There was no big bang. We are seeing what we are seeing is because we live in a massive void that is growing.
Well it’s more simpler than you think. It’s my farts bending time and space.
Wait! You’ve been doing that too?!
The Universe is to violent, wipes out most life before it can
reach advanced stages! We are just lucky so far!
Looking for radio and television signals from space is not a search for intelligent life.If you have actually seen television or listened to the radio it is obviously not a sign of intelligence.
So, the rest of the universe has basically put us in solitary confinement? Can't say that I blame them.
Bruv we cannot accurately predict the weather of our planet, why are scientists so confident about their models of the universe?
Our signals have barely reached the closest handful of stars yet, how are we going to get signals from aliens unless they are right next to us or were sent billions of years ago? Even if aliens lived around the nearest star any signal sent would take over 4 years to reach us. If the closest aliens are 200 light years away and if they started communicating with radio waves around the same time we did, we won't get the signal for another couple of decades.
There are 2,000 trillion galaxies - I counted them.
Sounds like we in a black hole with our own light and we keep falling
We are so insignificant
What? You thought everything in life revolves around us and our insignificant thoughts and presence?
1. Half of our life is in the invisible,
2. On the "other side of the mirror", time does not exist and space has no distances.
3. We are linked in a "spatial geometry", chance does not exist.
I continue to be amused that otherwise respectable scientists continue to count the various pieces of "furniture" of the Universe as if it were a bag that needed to be filled a few (13.8 +/-) billion years ago by a magical event whose exact cause and method cannot be scientifically explained (a super hot point in nothingness that somehow exploded and started the process of spontaneously creating what we call the Universe).
It is my humble opinion that we humans are incapable of either determining or understanding the definition of INFINITY. Surely, without comparison to any other measure, the Universe (which is impossible to measure so long as we observe it with eyes that see only that which is visible by ordinary light waves) is the best example of the word "INFINITY.
If the Univers is not INFINITE, then the word is meaningless. If the Universe IS infinite, we CAN'T know. Counting the number of pieces that we find in it is of no value and has no useful meaning..
The void is called a black hole, in which live in...
