This song is melodic death metal. The progressive. Then black. Then you realise F it. It's too hard to genre such a masterpiece. It's just old school opeth 🤘🏻

They certainly are special. Mikael is a genius among genius'. I got his and Peters autograph after a show! A lot of ppl were waiting at the rear of the venue when Mikael finally came out. Everyone had been talking and joking around but when he came out you could have heard a pin drop! He signed my ticket (after Peter had) and then they all got on the bus. That was my first Opeth concert at Harpos in Detroit. They came back there on the Blackwater Park tour and late in the show they played Blackwater Park. It was so ungodly powerful I walked out, knowing I'd never again witness or hear anything like it in my life. I didn't even stay for the rest of the show I was so blown away.

BEST OPETH SONG, EVER!!!!!!! I bought the cd, in 1998. I had to listen to the whole thing, for about 3 times, until I finally got it. The last 6 minutes, give me an overwhelming feeling....hard to describe.
Orchid, best Opeth album, in my humble opinion.

Audiophiles like to speak of listening fatigue, in the context of mediocre equipment. But after hearing and feeling impactful music, there is a natural "had enough" feeling similar to being full after a rich dinner. Saturation, not fatigue. It's a joy to get to be hungry again when the food is delicious and plentiful 👍

I love this song because I think is very different to the others, even for the Orchid & Morningrise era, because it sounds happy and it is fast (unlike Deliverance, which is fast but violent and harsh), but, at the same time, so dreamy and magical, even gentle, but still dark, like a dream turning to a nightmare. Love Opeth.

I discovered this song in 2002, while a sophomore high school. I am nearly certain I wept at the end, it was so beautiful. Massive Opeth fan since! I had the good fortune to see them(for the..6th time) in Denver Feb 2020, before everything locked down. And Yeah, Orchid will always be my favorite album, and In Mist she was Standing my favorite song from these dudes. Subbed!

This was my exact same reaction first time I stumbled across Opeth as well. WHY has this not been in my life for the last 20 years. It's SO amazing. I had the same feeling when I first heard Temple of the Void and Crowbar too. Immediately bought every single studio album each band had released. People ask me why do I listen to that heavy screaming shit. Because it fills my soul with joy. It has the exact same effect on me that whatever you love most has on you. Sometimes music just speaks to you.

I subscribed to your channel the minute i saw your first Opeth reaction. I got to ask you though, where have you been all this time? The metal world wouldn't be the same without Opeth. Only in America to ignore european metal greatness, lol. Anyway, welcome to Opeth world. Cheers from Portugal.
PS.: once again, when you get over the shock of knowing Opeth for the first time, try Pain of Salvation. It's progressive, quite different from this, but as intense and thrilling. Not for everyone's ears, but once you get into their atmosphere, you may even love it more than Opeth. I know I do.

The only real downside for getting into Opeth this late is that Mikael's harsh vocals do not sound good live anymore. He uses a more restrained style, doesn't really belt out anymore. It's a shame but it is what it is. He's really not a fan of that type of music anymore so I guess it's a blessing he does it at all.
And their last 4 albums are hit or miss for me. Sorceress and Pale Communion I love but I dislike In Cauda Venenum and Heritage completely. Would love to see them drop one more death metal tinged album for old times sake.

Okay, Orchid, their first album. Raw, unpolished and very young guys. I'm not fond of their first three albums (I got into them when Morningrise was released and found them cool but once Still Life and later Blackwater Park was released they were relegated to the back of that cd stack) but the later albums just spoiled me with both better production qualities, better playing/instrumentals, better song writing, better vocals (growling or otherwise) and dropping their early black metal influences (which I know a minority of fans love). You CAN hear the beginnings of what they would become from Still Life and onwards (although My Arms, Your Hearse is somewhere inbetween). The saddest thing is the crappy audio quality of Morningrise which makes it unlistenable. If I want to listen to a song off that album I try to find a live version (like "The Night and the Silent Water" from The Roundhouse Tapes which sound much better than the album version). Just my humble, personal and subjective opinion. If I were to start reacting to Opeth album by album I'd pick a song or two from each of their first three albums and be done with it and then go from Still Life until the latest release.
