- You know it's allways the same thing when there is a fire. The firefighters are trying to do their job and there's allways some showjumpers who wants to try and help, allthough they have no experience of firefighting.
A great clip from the TV-series "Big Train" (1998).
The look on marks face when he starts waggling the hose...made this 50 year old mans heart ache ...we were all kids once...brilliant acting from all of them ...nothing on tv these days to even come close to the laughs.

British humour! There nothing that can conquer it in the whole world. Great actors, the concern of the details in the sketches, the absurd humour. I just love Big Train! :-D
Two of the shows lead writers were Irish. So, it's not just British humour.
When Simon Pegg gets hit by the axe... Classic. And their faces, especially Heap's when they're having goes on the hose. Brilliant.

I've never seen an adult be able to portray childlike exuberance and behavior this well.

And at 3:34 that’s Kevin Eldon who played Mike Sampson on I’m Alan Partridge.

The British certainly do have one thing down: Sketch comedy.
Money Python's Flying Circus, Fry and Laurie, Harry Enfield and Chums, The Fast Show, Harry and Paul, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Armstrong and Miller, Bruiser, Big Train, Jam, Man Stroke Woman. We do have many quality sketch shows.
Brass eye
Khild565 Brass Eye is great, but I don't think it's a sketch show as it carries the same characters, settings and story throughout an episode.
How did you miss the best one ever: The League of Gentlemen? (Yes, I'm aware that's a subjective statement.)

The guy playing the main Firefighter also does the voice of the Russian Meerkat in those annoying adverts.
I think that someone just found a bunch of show jumpers outfits and they wrote a sketch around that 😂

At 00:04 there is a clipboard in the right that has a list of jobs in it, all crossed out except for "babysitter". This is virtually the same as the list of jobs Pauline writes in the first episode of The League of Gentlemen. Is that just coincidence? Weird. LoG came out the year after this but may have been filmed around the same time. It's not exactly the same list, just weirdly similar.

This sketch is such a who's who of British Comedy
Arthur Mathews, the writer of the sketch, is the fireman seen @ 1.23 and also later in the clip.
What's so interesting about this is that Simon Greenall is the Fireman, and this has Simon Pegg, Mark Heap and Julia Davis, which is very interesting.
I wonder are they the two dennis fire engines that were used in Londons Burning

But they aren’t dressed as showjumpers. They’re dressed as hunters. One wears navy, black orteeed coats for showjumping, not one’s hunting pink.
Until recently male showjumpers rode in red jackets, ladies wore blue.
The red of hunting jackets is never, ever referred to as red - it's called pink, even though it's clearly red! @@joylunn3445

I laughed at this and I noticed the two lady riders in this sketch, I thought lady riders in the sport of showjumping wear black jackets a stock shirt. Must be eventers.
This is in unrealistic. The police would not let them near!
They are trying to be like Monty Python but Julia Davis can't act and it falls flat.
It's absurd for a reason. Comedy doesn't have to be realistic.
