- The former prime minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, has been sentenced to twelve years in jail after being found guilty of corruption, but the judge granted a delay to the sentence. It was the first of several trials Najib faces over the looting of billions of dollars from state development fund 1MDB. The case is being seen as a test for Malaysia's efforts to stamp out corruption.

72 year is life sentence (death sentences)
10 years each for 6 offences. 6×10=60. The 7 the offence is 12 years. Total is 72. Since it will run concurrently it comes to 12 years overall.

proper sentence? still in nightmare for Malaysians as he is appeal in the appeal court & federal court. it takes at least 1 year plus to fight.
12 year prison is actually the first guilty, he still got 4 more that will soon be guilty and total in prison will be 55 year.
12 year isn't proper enough for the massive economic scale of his wrongdoings, probably death sentence and fines

This sentence has no impact, he'll appeal to court of appeal. If not in his favor again, can still appeal to federal court.

On 23/8/22 Najib Razak final appeal on the 12 years imprisonment and a fine of rm210 million was turn down by the Federal Court and he was sent to Kajang Prison to serve his sentence.

@Far J No not really. The judge did rule that najib had the real intention to use the money and keeping it dicreetly because he knows or think that only under no circumstances he is in power and can be above the law.

Najib is Innocent(only in his head) and he can always appeal to supreme court(again and again) to further extend this case and WALK AS A FREE MAN.* SO all in all, this is just a facade to show how "developed/corrupted" Malaysia is as a country.
