Very educating video.Quick question... how many seed do I plant to nurse in a cup before transplanting and for how many weeks?
Secondly, Can I use mixture of chicken drops and black soil as compost if I can't get compost in the market and what name is that item you mix with compost?
Finally, what is the best liquid fertilizer for watermelon.?
Your immediate response will be highly appreciated!
      Thank you.

Wow great video and it came at just the right time. I had some cantaloupe seedlings planted from your melon seed collection and the cottontail bunnies ate them down to stubs. I was so discouraged. Then I watched this video and I will plant again with maybe some chicken wire to protect them. Thanks for your awesome video.

Good timing. Decided more of my non garden backyard area needed to be used. Seeded gold in gold watermelon at the base of a trellis. (As well as backups in seed trays) growing a sangria in ground, baby doll (yellow) in ground and mini piccolo (along with male plant) in ground. Might also try the piccolo on trellis and hand pollination from the sangria. Zone 9b (mojave) with mixed soil as the yard is basically sand.

Nice garden! I like all the stone and metal. I live in Miami and just took apart a wooden raised bed i built 5 months ago....insects and rot (and a hiding place for cane (poisonous toads) were the main reasons. Stone and metal are the way to go in this swamp.

I was very surprised at the amount of melons you placed in the fabric pot. A guide line I read says minimum 5 gal. for one plant. Also if using liquid fertilizer, use each week. I read a lot on various sites. I can not wait for time to plant melons. I have some seedling of Tuscan melon. Want to do watermelon also. Sugar baby sounds perfect. Love your garden pal.

You mentioned using the good dirt plant food in the beginning because of its high nitrogen levels and how it encourages green leafy growth. Then after it starts to flower I think you said at that point you only give it the worm tea. Would you recommend that for things like tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables like that? Start with the high nitrogen and then cut it off when it begins to bear fruit?

I just put in some drip but have never used drip before. Can I get an idea of how often you water and for how long? I know my situation will be different in my zone, but knowing what your schedule is will give me something of an idea as to where to start. Thanks!! Love your channel!

My balcony only gets morning sun, early afternoon (1:00-2:00) the sun moves around to the other side of my house. I believe toms, watermelon and other full sun plants will be out of reach for me for a while.
Still watched the whole video. Your garden is beautiful! 💚🌱

Hello BassetLuv - You can actually plant smaller varieties of tomatoes and full sun plants and do pretty well in 1/2 day of sun. Watch for my Container Garden Series starting in a week or so for more tips, and Container Garden Seed Collection available at about the same time. Definitely a smaller variety of watermelon like sugar babies would be the way to grow. You might not get as many as you'd get in full sun, but it's so worth it. Thanks so much for watching the whole video, and so happy that you enjoyed the garden!

looks awesome Kim...Im planting sugar baby melons in many areas, where ever i can hahaha. Lovem. . I'm thinking that smart pot is gonna be crowded...might not be enough air circulation Kim. Dont want mildew. Hmm. Well, i hope all goes well because when they quickly spread and growup....gonna be tuff to try and take that center one out. Just my concern and an observation. Other than that..i love your videos....by the way...I did your smart pot/sac compost method...but i used my geo bin...also key was the black plastic cloak and lid i made for it...3 days after i made it...went to 160 degrees..turned it (basically lifted the geo bin off of the pile, and just garden forked the pile back in) Tried to do it every 3-5 days....after 3 weeks..it was done. First time ever!! Key seems to be turning it every 3 days or so. Thankyou...

You answered my question without really addressing it. Space is limited so wanted to find out in a fountained like the round one you used seems you intend to use at 4 vines? Will look out for another video of your in case you address how frequent to fertilize regularly? Thanks for your helpful videos

Hi Kim! Thanks for this video! Question: I have a 45 gallon fabric pot (18" deep) and want to plant some Blacktail Mountain watermelon and Oka melon (a large canteloupe, lost-and-found-again variety developed in Quebec). Do you think 3-4 watermelons and 2 cantaloupes would be feasible?

Hello Ms Kim. Thank you for doing this video I found it very helpful. May I ask you one question? I watch your youtube video on this similar topic a few weeks ago and started the seedlings in the pot back then. Everything went really well except for one thing. I planted them very close to each other. My pot is about 2feet in diameter and 5-6 feet deep and I planted 4 watermelon plants in there. Each one is only 6-7inches away. So my question is, do I need to get rid some of them? (It really hurts because they all grew nice and well). And if not, would it be bad for them? And also for furtilizing, I bought a verris terra castworm tea as you suggested, would that be sufficient enough or do I need to get any other futilizer? Thank you very much expecting to hearing from you soon.

Wow, I didn't know you could plant that many watermelon plants in the same container! I just planted 2 sugar baby watermelons in a 5-gallon bucket. I also turned it into a self-watering container. I planted one plant on each side. Do you think they will have enough room? Also, do I need to have a 6-foot high trellis? Could I maybe use concrete fencing? I saw that in another video. Thanks so much for your video!

Thank you for the video! We are trellis growing watermelon this year, and our entire trellis is already covered!.. it’s hot here so we were able to start early! We have been having trouble getting our watermelons to set on the vine, so I’ve started hand pollinating them. Unfortunately, even those that have set start turning black when they are about an inch in size. Do you have any suggestions?
