Awesome Camera! Own one and that is what started me on changing all my Google cameras to Tapo! Much clearer, battery life awesome, Instant reporting to phone with no lag like Google. Keep up the great videos I learn more and more from you on every one.
Something that I noticed was that they advertise it as 1080P and call it 1080P in the app. However the resolution is quite a bit higher than the standard 1920x1080. Awesome review, George.
Thanks! Yeah, it’s a unique camera in that way. But when it comes down to it, we’re still not at 2K. If they would have just bumped up the resolution a little more, this camera would 100% be a winner.
I feel bad, because Tapo has been great to work with. But I just call it as I see it. I hope so too. A few minor tweaks & this camera could be perfection.
for pc users.. You can use bluestacks etc.. its pretty stable and you can save media to windows.. I would like to use msi app player or something other than bluestacks.. But I haven't found anything else yet... I run 5 tplink cameras this way at the moment.. On multiple pcs..
First - I hope your health is getting better each day and that life is treating you well. Second - I have had it with waiting for good HKSV cameras. I held off as long as I could and am now going with Unifi. Outdoors, the Eufy cams have terrible detection with HKSV, Logitech Circle View just does not cut it. NOT doing Nest with Starling as Google still gets a copy of the feed and their outdoor cam is not great. (Terrible Cool Off Time and poor Night Vision) Have to draw the line.
Yeah, I did a somewhat recent video where I talked about the reasons I’m done with HKSV. So it’s a general con for me, but it doesn’t bother me that much, because I don’t use it.
Hey George, the price is now $69.99 and the discount code isn't working. Gives the following message at checkout: "The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase." 🙁 Great review. Loved the 70's crime drama music during the unboxing! 👍 Take care my friend!!
Thanks! Yeah, the price was different at the time I recorded the video. I put a disclaimer in the description. Thanks for letting me know about the discount code. I’ll contact them.
Hey George, like always great video. Just one question I do have HomeKit secure and I am looking for an outdoor camera. What do you suggest it is for my parents home. They live alone and I want a camera for their safety and overall well-being.
Unfortunately, there are really still only 3 options (which is ridiculous). The Logitech CircleView, The Eufy 2C & the Eve Floodlight. Of the 3, I prefer the Eufy 2C, using a solar panel. But none of them are ideal.
@GeorgeLangabeer In the Amazon reviews the mention that in order to setup the camera You have to get the subscription Can you please find out is this is correct??
Hello George Langabeer, I have a question for you. I was reading that the Tapo Solar c420 and the C425 doesn't have the Always On Mode. Do you know anything about this? It was on Reddit about 4 months ago
Battery cameras will never be “always on”, even with a solar panel. If they were the battery life would be worthless and the solar panel wouldn’t be able to keep up. So battery cameras will tend to be only be available when you select the live view manually and during event recordings.
No, you don’t. The camera basically shuts itself off when nothing is happening & then turns back on (automatically) during an event. An event could be motion, a person, etc.
There are different versions of this Solar kit available with either 2k 3MP or 2k QHD (at least here in the UK). Obviously the price increases accordingly. Not sure why Tapo would only send you the 1080p version to review.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Here in the states they have a C428 Kit, but it’s “coming soon”. Not technically the same model. The C402 is only listed at 1080p here.
@@GeorgeLangabeer No problem. I should have mentioned that the Solar kits contain different camera models, for example the 2k 3MP version is called the TC82 kit and the 2k QHD version is called the C425 Kit. Hopefully Tapo will send you one of the higher resolution kits to review as I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks again.
They’ve sent me 2 different systems to test. I haven’t been able to keep either of them online for more than 5 minutes. It’s been the most frustrating attempt at a review I’ve ever experienced.

Tapo is on a roll as far as cameras go! I’m getting more and more impressed with them as time goes on.
Hardest working guy on TH-cam! Great video.
lol. I don’t know about that, but thank you. I really appreciate you saying that. 🙏🏻

@@GeorgeLangabeer Absolutely.
The current litetature states it is 2 k
They have a 2K model, but the one they sent me is 1080p.
Thanks for the honest review, hopefully they will see your review and either fix the cons or offer a new model that fixes them.

I lol’d pretty hard at “the two way audio absolutely sucks on this camera” 😂
😝Just telling it like it is.
What camera would you recommend with increase resolution within the same price range? 1080 being out dated
I love the new studio. Much good luck to you.
Thank you!

I’m going to try this with scrypted to see if this works with HomeKit. This would be perfect for my backyard.
Let me know how it goes.
How about night time longevity? How many hours solar cam before it run out of energy during night time from 7pm to 6am (11hours)
According to Tapo you can get a full day/night of monitoring with just 45 minutes of direct sunlight charging.
Very nice Tapo SolarCam i like it a lot.
It’s a nice camera indeed.

Hey George, does this model have the same issue as the C420 model which often fails to activate night vision at night?
I did not experience that issue.
Does this model have any type of horizontal adjustment after mounting it on the wall?
Yes. The camera is adjustable.
@@GeorgeLangabeer thanks! 🤝🏻
You’re welcome.
Hi i have the same camera but why my camera not recording everything and I have it on loop recording ..
Are you using a SD Card? Or Tapo Cloud?

George can you please review the Safemo solar camera system.
I’m tryin to. Have been for weeks. It’s a mess. Don’t buy it.
Will do. Thx. Just looking for a secure, wireless, solar powered system. Beginning to think there just isn’t one.

The 15% off code does not work.
Spouse approval factor is low since it doesn't integrate to Apple Home.
HomeKit Secure Video is pretty worthless at this point. So it’s a general con for me, but doesn’t bother me much.
@@GeorgeLangabeer I need to have it for live view but prefer to have recording elsewhere as backup. I’ve also had no issues with HKSV so far.
As long as it’s stuck at 1080p & until they get better event recording, I’m done.
