It's crazy because a jumper isn't a natural gift like athleticism or court vision. It's totally improvable. We've seen guys like J Kidd, Lebron, Blake Griffin, Brook Lopez, just to name a few become much better shooters later on in their careers but it seems like younger guys just don't want to do it. They must all be convinced they don't need it even though a blind hoops fan could tell a guy like Thompson that if he works on his jumper every day then he could become one of the best basketball players of his era, he's that good at everything else.
Take brook out of there. He was already a good mid range shooter prior to learning to shoot 3s. He just developed it when bigs are starting to shoot 3s
Lonzo Ball for sure. And I gurantee the Thompson Twins are shooting like crazy everyday. My guess is the harder part, is gaining the confidence to practice the shot in the game. You realize how hard it is to attempt a 3 when you turn to your left and have Reed Sheppard or Vanvleet on the wing or Jabari Smith Jr and Cam whitmore on the other side lol? You better be rlly confidence in your shot
I'm reading the Ben Simmons comp but Ben Simmons wasn't a willing cutter/slasher. He could've been an unstoppable slasher if he was an active and willing slasher. I think he compares to Draymond skillset-wise.
Reminds me of Kuminga where if a team doesn’t match their athletic driving ability, they look like a superstar. But when the other team matches up well, they are just is a negative on offense. If you’re not good enough to be a first option, and you’re not big enough to be a rim protector, you really need to have a jumper. Some team is bound to overpay these guys because they over estimate their potential without a jumper. They’ll put up good numbers. But come playoff time their teams will struggle with them in.
