I thought it was because James was slowing down. However James has been playing better against other teams. So my guess is he could he that good defensively already. Then has showed better range than in college. He has an insane block amd steal percentage though he don't have than many. Meaning not many people have challenged him yet. The ones that did he stopped them.
Coming here after the win against the Clips Halloween night and in the 4th Dunn attempted two big threes to put the game on lock. Now he missed those, the important part is A-He didn't shy away from the moment and B-The suns trusted him to make em. Dunn was an absolute steal for us given our extremely slim ability to make move given our cap and assets. These boys are looking good. Of course it all means jack if we can't contend in the post season. GO SUNS!!!
I also made a video about Ryan Dunn over a week ago and im glad another creator in this space is giving him some praise. How rapidly Ryan has developed his 3 point shoot was not something I saw coming heading into this season. Thought it would take maybe two years in order for him to shoot him as well he’s shooting from three right now. If he becomes a good three point shooter off the catch Ryan will be a high level role player on a non expensive contract which is what the Suns exactly needed to get.
@@theflesh9005confidence is the most important thing when it comes to shooting, from the moment ryan got drafted KD took him under his wing and that’s gotta be a huge confidence boost for a rookie, also i don’t necessarily think ryan was ever a “bad” shooter it’s just not what was asked of him in college, but the nba pretty much requires shooting so he’s been getting those reps up
Let’s not even mention the crazy start of the schedule because we played clippers twice the lakers twice and the mavs. Those are legit teams and good experience for him.
huge steal for the suns, they dont have many draft picks to make so they need to really hit on the ones they have also im sure the nuggets wish they kept him lol, another potential capable shooter that they desperately need (provided his shooting keeps up)
@@paulanderson3898not really, during the draft the other gms basically already are aware of what every team is targeting and at what pick, this kinda stuff happens every draft
It is not a trick, it is Kevin "Not a leader" Durant's trick on the entire league making them thinking he's not a leader and will not mentor young players.
They were missing a player that fits his description. When the suns had Mikal Bridges, he brought this type of archetype to the floor. Since Mikal and Cam left they have been trying to fill their spots with various role players but that was some of the most team chemistry ball the team has had in recent seasons. Dunn fits right in to this group
He is definitely the best rookie I seen so far this season and honestly I’m not sure what his ceiling is cause before I just seen him as a defensive guy with some close range offensive ability. Now I’m thinking if he’s this good as a rookie, we might have something here.
Maybe a Shawn Marion type of player… I don’t see him being the rebounder Marion was but but Dunn’s defense is on par with Marion’s and if he can become a scoring threat like Marion was then this kid will see a few All Star games. Dunn’s 3 point shooting already looks better in the small sample size… like to see him work on his handles and midrange pull ups.
@@BIGgamez78I think he will be a better shooter than Marion. He doesn't have a hitch on his shot like Marion had which will help him be more consistent.
The IQ he has for being young is definitely underrated. That switch off the screen and tracking the lob from Luka nobody does that as a rookie defender 💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Dunn's activity and tenacity is just insane, I was at the Mavs game and remember seeing he had five fouls, but he sure never played like he was in foul trouble. Sometimes it'll hurt you, but I think generally it's a good thing
This reminds me of the Mavs getting Lively with the 10th pick that they tanked for. A rookie that came in and immediately contributed to a playoffs run.
it is a small sample size, but if you've watched the games it doesn't seem like a fluke. he might not stay at 45% but he's been super engaged and fearless on the offensive end and surprisingly is pretty consistently in the right spots. their other rookie, oso ighodaro, has a lot of potential too.
@@BIGgamez78 Dunn is far more athletic than Bridges so I'm hoping his ceiling is higher. Dunn doesn't need to turn into an offensive superstar, he should just focus on being a defensive specialist first, work on hitting the 3 consistently, and then be functional in the offense without turning the ball over.
Imagine having to guard those players in practice every day! That would definitely get Dunn ready to guard other NBA elite players. He kind of reminds me of Raja Bell.
Ngl, I did not think that Dunn would even be in the Suns' rotation when he got drafted. You don't usually see rookies being getting PT on teams that are trying to contend. The fact that he was put into their rotation immediately and has managed to stand out pretty quickly speaks to how good he is. He is the replacement for Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson that they needed. Playing alongside (super)stars like Durant, Booker, Beal and having to defend the likes of LeBron and Luka early on has been a good test for him, and he has stepped up to the challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing his development; he's in the best situation to do that with the number of vets on his team and the organization having faith in him. Also, he is from my hometown, so I'm supporting the dude.
The Suns seemingly had zero options outside of that one lower 1st round pick...only minimum deals in free agency and huge limitations on their trade prospects, being so far into the luxury tax. The ONE guy who fit their most desperate need (a big wing defender to replace the traded away Bridges and Cam) was there at the bottom of the first round. Their other need, a starter caliber true point guard, luckily was signed for the minimum. And BOOM, they're contenders again! I certainly didn't expect them to get so lucky.
People dont ever think about this, but sometimes the stadium is the reason why. Like for me, i can shoot relatively well at my old middle school gym, now at my local indoor court that isnt a school gym, i shoot like ben simmons. Another example would be divencenzo, dude wasnt an above 40% shooter untill his year in NY, now in minnasota, dude isnt comfortable (yet) and shooting under 30% from three
I remember in one of the pre season game, this dude is willing to take threes in a fast break. Then i knew he is gonna get better in shooting. But I wasn’t expecting him to improve so fast.
Great video Alex. Watching the Suns this season, Dunn brings the defensive hustle and a certain chutzpah this team was really lacking last year. I'm not sure if his current 3P rate is sustainable but Dunn is a support piece this team needed badly.
The sample size on the shooting is tiny, but the better sign is the confidence. He thinks he can shoot, and much like with Nicola Mirotic back in the day if you think you can shoot and act like you can shoot you'll be defended like you can shoot.
Dunn has been awesome so far, yes small sample size, in regards to the shot making, but that defensive ability isn't going away. Now all the Suns need is to trade useless Nurk for a 7 foot long armed atheletic rim defender and I really like their chances.
He has an insanely high block and steal percentage right now. Then he is spacing the floor earlier than expected. all he needs to do now is improve his rebounding and passing. He could be a Marion or a Joe Johnson. It would be nice to get a good weak side shot blocker and a passing lane threat.
The Shawn Marion is a good comparison, but the Johnson comparison is not even close, not the same type of player at all. Johnson was more of an athletic Booker.
@1TUFZUK I was referring to Johnsons rebounding. He is not the rebounder Marion was or even close close. Though his defense shows more promis. We also didn't think Marion was that great of a shooter. He ended up being a decent floor spacer who can cut.
I remembered watching the game, after Dunn got fouled out, Luka was ecstatic like a huge burden was removed even though Luka had like 30 pts, just shows how much a nuisance he is on defense
As someone who watched a fair amount of UVA basketball, he was not a good offensive player at all even though he might have been the best defender in college.
