There is some commentary about Tommy DeVito being short, taking advantage of Pescie's physical size (in contrast with DeSimone's) to justify his personality. After describing being beaten for information, "Pow! Bing!" he says, "I wish I was big just once...." He seems to think he'd be less likely to get beaten, or more able to exact revenge were that the case. Also, Bats calls Tommy "Ya' little prick..." before he gets murdered. Same here man. I've mentioned it a few times on and off. I was ecstatic when he did and analysis of Vincent from Collateral. Another stellar film by Michael Mann 👏🏾
Too bad probably there is not enough material to make a full video about Leo from Thief but holy shit if that guy is not one of the most fucked up hateable characters in a Michael Mann movie, Waingro too but he was so over the top that almost becomes a parody well at least in the hands of a less competent director it would had been a character out a Death Wish movie.
This channel is so awesome. This should be an hour long show on HBO max or something. Your videos really are that good. I’d binge this stuff for days on end.
Sal Polisy in The Sinatra Club also provides a lot of information on Tommy. He was a friend of Foxy and claim Foxy didn't approve of Tommy dating his sister, not only because he was a connected guy, but because Tommy abused his sister. I think we can all agree the only reason history will remember a nobody like Tommy DeSimone is because Joe Pesci made him a memorable character. In real life, not many people seemed to have much affection for the guy.
Stacks did NOT follow simple instructions on how to dispose of the getaway van after the heist. The van was discovered by the police, only because he DIDN'T follow instructions.
The "Great Train Robbery" shot of Tommy at the end of the movie- I always thought it represented the idea that Henry cannot escape that life, and there will always be someone in the shadows gunning for him... But I'm starting to think it's more of a "ghosts of the past" type thing. Henry was always going to be haunted by Tommy and the things he had to do in his old life. Maybe a bit of both. It's a testament to Scorsese that I get misty-eyed over losing a character that is so evil...
He is only 5'4, but when Joe Pesci played a character like this, and Nicky in Casino, he made you believe he was 6'8. Probably one of the most terrifying gangsters ever brought to film. As far villains go to cover, my three suggestions go like this: 1.) Vic Mackey from The Shield. 2.) Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker from the 1989 Batman and 3.) If you want to look at another real life person, Andrew Cunanan from the 2nd season of American Crime Story.
The real Tommy Desimone was 6'2, in his 20s and a musclebound bruiser tough without a weapon. Though Pesci's Tommy was very short and middle aged still was a psychopath and a fairly tough bruiser with his fists alone in a one on one fist fight without weapons or cheapshots or sneak attacks. Nicky aka Tony Spilotro was a pro street brawler, hence why he was the Chicago Outfit's number one enforcer and muscle.
My old man had a story about Desimone from the late 70s. Apparently he and friends had been at some outdoor party in philly at a club and people who had been there earlier said Tommy and some other guys had been there and had a severed head in a trash bag showing it off.
Probably the only redeeming thing on Tommy's character is that he loved his mum. He deserved what happened to him, but you can't help to see his death scene as a somewhat sad moment, IMO.
I was actually watching The Goodfellas last night. This is perfect timing. Thank you for so many wonderful videos! 😊 My suggestion for a future episode would be Agent Smith from The Matrix.
Leftfield suggestion for one of your videos but I think a long video would suit Selina Myer from Veep. She was always vain, shallow and callous but she really drags herself into the depths in the last two seasons. The targeted marketing at bereaved families, her mother's death, exploiting her grandchild for publicity, backstabbing multiple friends/colleagues for power being just some of the innumerable examples of her political evils.
The murder of Martin Krugman wasn’t done by Tommy, that’s according to Henry Hill at least. Because he said by the time Krugman disappeared, Tommy was gone.
Didn’t he also randomly pull out his gun & shoot a civilian in broad daylight, while he & Henry were walking down the street one day?! When a shocked Henry asks him why he just done what he done, he simply replied “Hey, I’m a mean cat…”
I know you probably don't do video game or anime villains often, but in the off-chance you consider it, i would say do either Frank Fountaine from Bioshock or Kira (Light) from Death Note.
I never realized Tommy's last name in Goodfellas is DeVito, i didn't know they we ven mentioned that in the movie, but it makes sense, DiSimone, Devito, and Pesci reminds me of DeVito, because of their height and big personality.
I’ve already requested it, but I’m dying to see you analyze John Ryder from the Hitcher. One of the most unhinged, mysterious villains in all of cinema.
Having watched this I now really want to see an analysis of Francis Begbie from Trainspotting who likewise was portrayed by a shorter actor and has a personality similar yet contrasting with Tommy's.
If you take suggestions, I'd love to see a breakdown on the aunt from The Girl Next Door (the 2007 horror movie adaptation of Jack Ketchum's novel) and the way evil and corruption spreads from people of authority to the children in their care.
Thank you so much for making this!!!! I've requested this character on so many of your videos and even on your subreddit!! Just got off work and saw that you've posted this, I am so excited to watch it!
The question remains, if the big bosses knew that Tommie had whacked a made guy like Billy Bats & they killed him for it, they must've also known that as members of Tommie's crew Jimmie & Henry were in on it too? How is it that Tommie was eliminated for killing a made guy but Jimmie (who actually helped Tommie in the killing) & Henry were left untouched?
I always loved Goodfellas, so I was shocked when I learned one of my friends from high school was very closely related to one of the real-life gangsters in the movie. The next time I watched the movie it felt much more real, fully understanding that these were real people with real families and real victims.
So, here are some potential villains that you could cover in future videos. (Though I’m pretty sure you’ve gotten these suggestions already. - Bowser (Mario Bros) - Ghetsis (Pokémon) - Azula (Avatar) - Fire Lord Ozai (Avatar) - Thanos (MCU) - Khotun Khan (Ghost of Tsushima) - Ridley (Metroid) - Loki (MCU) - Green Goblin (Spider-Man 1) - Steppenwolf (Snyder Cut) - DIO (JJBA) - Penguin (Batman Returns) Hope you have a great day :)

Actually , Billy Bats was killed cuz Jimmy took over Billy's buisness while Billy was in jail and refused to give it back so Jimmy used Tommy to get rid of Billy Bats.
Billy Batts did insulted Tommy, and Tommy did say he was going to kill the guy. People often gloss over that fact entirely
If anything him being insulted made him being convinced by Burke to commit the murder more easily
@@WisteriaNerium i know , but it's still Jimmy who decided of Billy's fate
Interesting. Was that from the book? Seen the movie a million times and never picked up on that….been a while since I’ve watched it though.
And them Paulie ratted on him to the gambino crew
I love the ‘Mr. Nightmare’ feel he brings to his videos. Sets the mood so fine.
My suggestion for an episode is Jason Dean from Heathers, played by Christian Slater. That movie was ahead of its time. That's not my first pick, but you've already done all my first picks.
I've never seen Heather's, but everyone tells me I need to see it. There are three I want him to tackle that he hasnt yet and 1 of the 3 im shocked wasnt an early episode.
Good one. I never even thought of that.
He needs to do a profile on Dexter
Never thought of that. JD would pretty interesting
I still don't understand Jason Dean's motivations in Heathers to this day, I feel his character was underdeveloped. Maybe he was just a crazy dude?
Batts being "made" makes Tommys move even more reckless or even insane
I’ve been waiting for him to do GOODFELLAS
Scorsese said in an interview that some of Jimmy Burke's antics were far to violent for the screen.
I'd love a video about Neil McCauley from "Heat".
Same here man. I've mentioned it a few times on and off. I was ecstatic when he did and analysis of Vincent from Collateral. Another stellar film by Michael Mann 👏🏾
Also Waingro from Heat too
Too bad probably there is not enough material to make a full video about Leo from Thief but holy shit if that guy is not one of the most fucked up hateable characters in a Michael Mann movie, Waingro too but he was so over the top that almost becomes a parody well at least in the hands of a less competent director it would had been a character out a Death Wish movie.
Pat and Alby Variale were terrors as Tommy was back in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn in the 70s and early 80s.
I can believe it
This channel is so awesome. This should be an hour long show on HBO max or something. Your videos really are that good. I’d binge this stuff for days on end.
This was beyond an Oscar performance. He even did a better job than deniro.
Analyzing Evil: O Dogg from menace to society. I feel like he is the hood version of this dude.
That's an interesting comparison, he kinda was a "ice, cold" psycho to Tommy's "fiery hot".
Anybody want a cheeseburger?
Both were frightening loose cannons who were easily offended!
Him and Tommy would be an epic battle.
Agreed
2:16 Damn Paulie... sneaking into the Lucchese family
Yeah but hes a protected class who can do no wrong 🙄
An episode needs to be done on Tywin Lannister from "Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire". There is a lot to cover with that character.
Gay of Things
@@nikkingman LOL Just stop talking, nothing about game of thrones is "gaY oF tHInGS" AT ALL, in ANY way, just stop!
His his height relevant? He was a tough guy despite his height
“One dog looking one way, he’s looking the other way, and this one’s like “what do you want from me”” ahahah love it
O-Dog from Menace II Society, or even the main character for that matter...
@Gwyn and Gold You got that right!
Name a mobster that doesn't love his mother
@Gwyn and Gold It actually may have been worse, god only knows. There was just no one to tell the tail in this case

This channel is absolutely brilliant. I have literally watched every video you've done so far.
I was actually watching The Goodfellas last night. This is perfect timing. Thank you for so many wonderful videos! 😊
My suggestion for a future episode would be Agent Smith from The Matrix.
Goodfellas is my all time favorite movie! This was a great breakdown of Tommy and you should totally do all of them like this!
How about one on Edmund Kemper from Mindhunter, another character based off a real person?
Well he is not based on an evil person, he is an actual criminal. So I dont think he qualifies
@@Baalslegion07 I mean, he did do one on Amon Goth, who was also a real person.
@@darkchocolate1083 yeah, thats right! Then we could get one
@@Baalslegion07 Emperor Commodus was also a real person
Maybe Pablo Escobar from Narcos.
FYI: the content of this video doesn’t even start until 4:00. You’re welcome.
You got to admit the name tommy two guns is a great gangster name .
This was one of those characters in a movie that I was just itching to see die.
The murder of Martin Krugman wasn’t done by Tommy, that’s according to Henry Hill at least. Because he said by the time Krugman disappeared, Tommy was gone.
I'm gonna analyze evil, analyze evil.
I watched a lot of mob interviews. Of ppl who knew Tommy. They said he was a savage killer.
"Now get your F*ckin' Shinebox"
Didn’t he also randomly pull out his gun & shoot a civilian in broad daylight, while he & Henry were walking down the street one day?! When a shocked Henry asks him why he just done what he done, he simply replied “Hey, I’m a mean cat…”
I know you probably don't do video game or anime villains often, but in the off-chance you consider it, i would say do either Frank Fountaine from Bioshock or Kira (Light) from Death Note.
He’s done Tetsuo from Akira so I don’t know why not Light.
I second that an episode on Light Yagami from death note would be awesome.
What about Mr. "Would you kindly"? , himself, Andrew Ryan?
Doing a video on Donquiote Doflamingo would be pretty kickass, though it might require some extensive reading.
A video on light would take this channel into the stratosphere
I never realized Tommy's last name in Goodfellas is DeVito, i didn't know they we ven mentioned that in the movie, but it makes sense, DiSimone, Devito, and Pesci reminds me of DeVito, because of their height and big personality.
I quote this character to my sisters all the time to poke fun at my relentless personality “I’m stupid that’s MY business”
If there was one death i loved in the movie, it was his.
Really, amazing acting from Joe Pesci. Just legendary.
But god, what a character 😅
I can't wait until there's a Knucky Thompson episode 🤞
I'm 18 and this is my favorite movie, so happy you covered it
I’ve already requested it, but I’m dying to see you analyze John Ryder from the Hitcher. One of the most unhinged, mysterious villains in all of cinema.
Outstanding answer!
Rutger Hauer is an outstanding actor.
@@DMalltheway was. He's dead now.
@@1pcfred I’m aware, he’s a legend.
How about Jim Carey as The Cable Guy? He would be a fascinating case of analyzing evil.
I think Ozai or Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender would be very pog for an episode
Azula would be fun to watch. As not as much is known about her.
@Dakota Matos Azula is much better imo
@Dakota Matos anyone from Avatar would be great honestly
Dude your channel is fucking awesome. Thanks so much for all the effort and I’m always looking forward to what you put out next
Having watched this I now really want to see an analysis of Francis Begbie from Trainspotting who likewise was portrayed by a shorter actor and has a personality similar yet contrasting with Tommy's.
Do a video about Fletcher from Whiplash. He wasn't a murderer, but he was a psychological torturer.
If you take suggestions, I'd love to see a breakdown on the aunt from The Girl Next Door (the 2007 horror movie adaptation of Jack Ketchum's novel) and the way evil and corruption spreads from people of authority to the children in their care.
"The Sinatra Club" is a mob memoir I came across during lockdown times, had a lot of Tommy DeSimone stories from one of his contemporaries
I would love to see a video on Johan Liebert from Monster
Second it.
Thank you so much for making this!!!! I've requested this character on so many of your videos and even on your subreddit!! Just got off work and saw that you've posted this, I am so excited to watch it!
He played that dude sooo well. Too well!
Just finished rewatching the sopranos and seeing the younger versions of the cast in this always brings a smile to my face.
Great video!
I'd love to see a video on Lord Cutler Beckett, Davy Jones and Barbossa from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise!
A guy who can snap at any second from good to evil..
Yep.. that's the guy.
Very good as usual. You have alot of evil characters on the prison show “Oz”. Adebisi, Shillinger, Chris Keller. Would be awesome 👏
Yes
Don't forget Robson, O'Reilly, Hernandez, Kirk & Morales.
Analyzing Evil : John Milton from The Devil's Advocate played expertly by Al Pacino! Please do this character eventually!
Won't be too hard to analyze considering he literally was the devil
I always loved Goodfellas, so I was shocked when I learned one of my friends from high school was very closely related to one of the real-life gangsters in the movie. The next time I watched the movie it felt much more real, fully understanding that these were real people with real families and real victims.
Joe Pesci seems like the kinda guy who will get things done when you want them done
- George Carlin 1937-2008
“Joe Pesci dealt with that cocksucker in one visit. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with a simple baseball bat.”
great description and elegance rarely seen or heard anywhere that broadcast information.
You sign up for that life murder is apart of the life they know what they are getting into.
That is true
So, here are some potential villains that you could cover in future videos. (Though I’m pretty sure you’ve gotten these suggestions already.
- Bowser (Mario Bros)
- Ghetsis (Pokémon)
- Azula (Avatar)
- Fire Lord Ozai (Avatar)
- Thanos (MCU)
- Khotun Khan (Ghost of Tsushima)
- Ridley (Metroid)
- Loki (MCU)
- Green Goblin (Spider-Man 1)
- Steppenwolf (Snyder Cut)
- DIO (JJBA)
- Penguin (Batman Returns)
Hope you have a great day :)
Here’s one I dare you to do an analysing evil episode for……
The Wet Bandits from Home Alone
👍
If anything the kid deserves one.
I agree! Upon viewing 'Home Alone,' one can only surmise that Harry and Marv are the very epitome of heartless evil.
Charlie M is really code for Kevin McCallister
It doesnt get more evil than The Wet Bandits
@1:50. That's true. Even Howard Stern called Henry Hill out on his autobiography.
