I’ve had the larger version of this mold sitting on my shelf unused for two years because I was afraid to use it. After watching your video, I feel silly for waiting so long! Thank you for sharing! Today, I’m going to use the mold! ❤
I have both lg and small box mounds. They do use a lot of materials if you don’t use scrap.I anneal at the new temp for bullseye glass (900) I anneal longer too. I really like them for a simple way to make a box.
Jamaison, that looks awesome! Excellent job for your first outing! When I first started fusing about 10-11 years ago I bought the Colour De Verre rectangle mold and made boxes for my sisters as gifts, they turned out well, but there was a lot of trial and error. Boy if I knew then what I know now, I'd be as smart as you! lol. I used fine frit because never occurred to me to use coarse frit and more stuff. Excellent work, it looks gorgeous! Thanks for sharing ❣
Love it! I have made a few of these but haven't tried fire polishing yet. Thanks for sharing your fire polish results! I am inspired to go get my heart shaped mold out, as Valentine's Day is around the corner!
Yassss! I’m so happy you got to try this mold out. I love using the large box and the heart shaped ones but I have all of the Colour de Verre molds and love making these. There is an artist Jeri Warhaft I believe in NJ who does amazing sand blasting negative patterns in these lids 😍. I have pulled some murrini and put it into the lid as circles on the cover encased on clear. I also love wedging dichroic in the base by knealing squares of the dichroic or color of choice along the outer wall and filling the base with a 50/50 mix of color and clear. Super fun and you can get so creative with it. I LOVE that you used the reactive glass frit. Did you get a decent reaction? You can also place circles or nuggets as a handle and YES to rubber feet at the bottom. I did not like the way the base fanned out with the temp schedule give. The wait time moved it too much. I found kissing the temp and doing an immediate drop to anneal came out better. But I still had that wiggle on the lid. I’ve tried clear silicone beaded on the edge of the lid and then wiped off alighting with a glove. It left a thin padded layer that let the lids stay in place. I can’t wait to see what more you will make with it! 🌱💚
It came out beautifully! Interested to see what you figure out to solve the fire polish issue, so the base doesn't spread out. I have their oblong box but haven't tried it out yet. You've given me courage to try it! :)
All of my firing schedules are in the video notes/video description on TH-cam. If you’re watching on the computer, I think you can just click the headline and it should open up the details?
When I have used the heart mold my glass base comes out super textured. Any tips for me? I do not have a sand blaster and had to use a diamond pad. I could not get inside the heart
Hi Jamaison, when you did the second fire polish (the one where you had too much spread) did you place it back in the mold or try a light fire polish without it? I too have run the manufacturer's fire polish schedule on this particular mold and while I had no spread (I used the mold like suggested) I really didn't get the results that I was looking for. Just curious and Thx!
@@JamaisonSchuler I realized that fire polishing in the mold is not the way it’s done, BUT in the instructions from the manufacturer it’s says to re-prime the molds and place the pieces back in them to fire polish. It didn’t make sense to me either so I guess I was asking if that was what you did.
@@JamaisonSchuler I tried using my lapidary and taking the box up to a polish - just lightly and not going super crazy with any one disk, and then I used the suggested fire polishing schedule outside of the mold and it took it up to a beautiful shine.

Love those colors together! ❤️❤️
Love it. Very nice thought.

❤ the colors ... I also have a box mold I have never used - Thanks!!
I love making these boxes !
I'm new to this hobby and loving it. Thanks for sharing . it was a very useful video.
The use of the reactive makes this beautiful. Good choice! ❤️Please let us know if you figure out a fire polish tweak that distorts less.
What fun. I really like it.
love these!!!
Love it!! Great ideas with its uses too!!

These are great fun! You’ve sent me down another rabbit hole😊 How do I find your ‘fire polish’ schedule?

I love it! What size frit did you use? Thanks!!
Coarse frit
What a beautiful box. Could you/have you tried large pieces of glass (vs frit)?
I have seen that and intend to in future attempts!
I am new to fusing and would like to know your polish schedule please.
I like to fire polish at a top temp of about 1325 or maybe 1350 if I’m looking for even more softness.
what do you use on the molds to keep the glass from sticking, i have a wash for slumping but is there one that is for fusing straight into a mold?
ZYP boron nitride spray is my preferred. Best to check with mold manufacturer for what they recommend with their molds

I don’t have a lot of suggestions other than to try the manufacturer’s fire polish schedule?

You would need to fire polish outside the mold. It won’t polish if placed back in the mold.

@@kellyhanson7797 I guess I missed that detail… seems counterintuitive 🤷🏻♂️
