Everybody was listening to Prince’s 1984 album ‘Purple Rain’ right around Y2K as Bin Laden was finishing the final touches on his master plan, at least in cYbErSpAcE they were.. and if by cyberspace you mean AOL instant messenger, where it would have taken the better part of a day to send this fatuous, pitch dropped, half-baked inaudible audio experiment, which surely must signal the death of human creativity. It’s your ridiculously misguided attempt to illustrate imagery of what the late 90s/early 2000s was like that’s the most offensive rather than the piece in question. Seriously, vaporwave yada yada, aesthetics , got it.. but what the hell is actually going on? ‘Every generation thinks that they discovered nostalgia’ suggests writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but your generation is embracing and sort of solemnly celebrating nostalgia for a time that you weren’t even present to experience, with unclear levels of irony…. Honestly I don’t understand why this is “cool”… I’m genuinely interested in the psychological and inherited social schemas at play here. And furthermore, from a musical standpoint..My friends would have KILLED for an BossSp303, or anything resembling the DAWS of today… endless possibilities for originality, and all kids in this “scene” want to do is just slow down rpm/speed and add reverb and maybe some compressor/sustain/chorus…..
