"Standing in the gap looking for loopholes" reminded me of Abraham arguing with God about Sodom. How many of us are saying about a group we dislike, "But Lord, what if there are ten good ones?" Please, Lord, help me to be one of those always... Thank you!!
Love to hear a speaker, speaking real truth about the kingdom. Telling of Jesus as a Jew, Christians need to embrace this!!! Marty, thanks for so much to meditate on.
Listening to this I was struggling to find myself in the Matthew 22 parable with thoughts like “ I was a wreck before I gave my life to Christ I was the bad brought in and given wedding clothes what warnings do I need to heed ? I’m just not seeing it? but then you read the first woe of the Pharisee and my thoughts turned quickly to “oooh I can definitely find myself here, I can point to many times where my self righteous choices or thoughts have kept me from seeing or helping others I bet the Pharisees listening to Jesus felt the same way as I did when he called out the saducees in the parable they were probably feeling good about themselves probably even caught the remez on the spot. But for them there was no parable needed it was plain language “woe to you Pharisee “. I really need to take that in Jesus is using plain language to call out my ungodly unloving Christian attitudes born from a deeply divided church that lobs doctrinal bombs at each other while those outside the church are seeing our religious behavior for what it is !!plainly wrong and something they don’t ever want to get involved in!!
Tell you what Marty, as a Christian - I've been struggling with the thorny soils and rich young ruler teachings for so long. His teachings are so hard to live up to.
