Hey there Alex! We (the Healthy Strides Foundation - in Perth Australia) have had two of these since launch in Japan last year - we use these as part of therapy services for children and young adults with neurological conditions and injuries. It's been incredible to see such incredible engagement and interaction.
Being able to do this between children and adults of all ages and to incorporate these kinds of activities into therapy programs means that they have a modern, contemporary way of experiencing Nintendo gaming goodness.
We use the buttons with "switch" buttons connected to the jacks at the front of the device and a few modified Horii controllers for the joysticks.
The PC software that goes with this is brilliant for remapping and the unit actually also works with the Tobii Eye Gaze for control via eye tracking.
I'm very happy to hear that the UK gamers will have access to this kind of accessibility controllers - it took a little effort to get ours out of Japan but it has been so very worthwhile - huge commendations for checking out this kind of accessory and bringing some awareness to it - love the channel - great work!
If you'd like to see the controller in action - there are plenty of YT videos featuring it but we also have a few vids on our FB page - feel free to check it out!
    facebook.com/739271802939140/videos/463430948129051
For a free tip for anyone grabbing this - Mario Kart supports auto-steering - the buttons via the Flex Controller can be used to activate the items and is very very scalable for children and young adults of all capabilities (and limitations). Happy gaming! :)

As a challenged person I can offer my personal opinion on the Hori Flex- The sheer amount of customization is its real strength, because every need is different. One person might have general hand dexterity, or specific finger dexterity issues. When I played FPS games on PC, everyone was touting mouse and keyboard controls, but I found the keyboard quite difficult to use My solution was to use a gamepad to move and a mouse to aim and fire, but it required special software to emulate keystrokes via the gamepad.
The Hori Flex gives those same customization options to console players, without all the software shenanigans that I had to go through. It looks really promising, and I agree that I would like to see more, and all the add-ons that it can support! 😎👍

    • @GreenBlueWalkthrough
      @GreenBlueWalkthrough 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

About using a mouse and gamepad it depends on the game as some don't care what you are using so you could do both which I vastly prefer and we need more games like that.
As someone with ADD and maybe slightly autsic the keyboard and mouse are too much for my brain so I just wipe PC noobs with a controller.

I’m disabled but I didn’t get why Alex was making a huge apology for his review. If it’s popular with able bodied people then it will continue to receive support which is what we need. A really nice review Alex, for what it's worth, i think it's very well and respectfully done! What i think is a glaring omission with this product, in addition to no option of having more than just the stick work on actual controllers plugged in and them just being weirdly compatible, seems to be no option at all to remap gyro and motion controls, which are one of the most problematic things for disabled gamers that nintendo just keeps forcing into games as standard or required inputs

So, as someone who has worked within an organisation for disability awareness, it is brilliant that a product like this is A: available for Switch, and B: has been given a platform for exposure and awareness. The more of this the industry can get behind, and the more platforms show it off, the better.

It's weird that Nintendo made the NES Hands Free Controller, yet was fighting to keep the Beeshu Superstick unlicensed and off the market.
Apparently Nintendo will let you play hands free, but dare play right handed, and Nintendo does not give you any options.
BTW I am aware that later versions of the Beeshu Superstick were NES licensed. I heard that the Federal Trade Commission told Nintendo to either fail a Beeshu for a reason other than allowing right handed play, or license them. They couldn't find any other violation, thus licensed.

There is one game that can benefit greatly with the Flex, Hatsune Miku Project Diva Megamix! You can lay out the buttons in a row like the arcade or in a cross, then add 2 more buttons for slide left and right. That said I'm not getting one, though, because those with disabilities should be prioritized, and they shouldn't have to wait for a restock. Thank you Alex for showing off how it works and what it could do, and for bringing awareness to this accessible controller.

YES, YYEEESSS. These types of controller are fantastic. Though I think this controller should have a way to use a type of gyroscope. Not sure how, maybe a nunchuck style controller. But motion controls are good for acceabilty in a different way. Depends from person to person

Actually, I thought so too at first but, I'm seeing a much better button layout for some things due to the fact that the XAC only comes with 2 oversized buttons onboard (A and B) and no jack outlet for them.
The Hori otoh, has A, B, X and Y as well as Left and Right Shoulder which would go a long way to reducing the cord tangle in some cases. There's jacks for all of them there as well, I noticed so, I think they're trying to be more versatile. Whereas the XAC tried to go for easier access to those highly important A and B buttons (larger, more responsive).
So, yeah, they both look highly similar but I can easily see someone deciding either one over the other because of a particular needed set up.

This appears to be great for people with physical disabilities, also appears to be able to make certain games more immersive, maybe? (Rig up a steering wheel and pedals for Mario Kart) also after watching Wulffden the hub appears to be perfect for fighting games
