I have one very important question:
Why is GameXplain so awesome?
If the holes all take place by each other, can you go to other holes while playing golf in a certain hole.

If they have a mario odyssey stage coming, I hope they add a sunshine course or something. That would be a good setting for golf
They showed a DLC teaser in the E3 direct. It was a course from New donk city from odyssey

Heck, even if they rotated the battle golf stages like they do with splatoon, I'd be down for that!

Seems like it's good but not as good as I had hoped. Maybe a good game to pick up on sale after some dlc drops.
I’m sure it’s good, GameExplain likes to nitpick and complain about every small thing they can find. No game is perfect so if you were really looking forward to it, buy it for yourself and you can be the judge.
@@thesweatystallion2702 I find they tend to be a bit more optimistic than me when reviewing things, I don't think I was necessarily a day one person for this game anyway, but on sale, I think I'd grab it.
I'd say it's worth it since they are going to update the game with more characters and courses like they did tennis aces

Even the N64 Mario Golf launched with more courses, 8 compared to Super Rush's current 5.
They desperately want you to buy that NSO annual subscription just so you can get drip fed content for who knows how long until it's complete, so enjoy waiting for that.
This is Nintendo's strategy compared to Sony and Xbox's gamepass/PS plus.

@@Terranigma23 Resident Evil "takes risks" and gets rips apart by their fanbase for the slightest changes. Paper Mario "takes risks" and gets rips to shreds for not being a true "Paper Mario game." There is no winning with you internet people. Last Of Us 2 took big enough risks, and the Halo 4 and 5 games did and the slightest changes means "they abandoned their fanbase."

Final Fantasy only barely makes enough changes to set each FF game apart, yet every minor change Square Enix makes gets the "thats not a real Final Fantasy game" comments. The fact that DLC is adding courses and not just characters makes this more appealing than Tennis Aces to me. It sucks that the adventure mode apparently ends just when it is getting good but maybe they'll add a challenging final chapter of sorts in dlc as well. I hate the monthly update models but since Tennis Aces became a much more complete package I am hopeful for this one. Speed Golf sounds like the absolute highlight here.
Mario tennis is actually a really fun game with possibly the worst multiplayer set up I have ever seen.

Yet this also will just prove people's point that Nintendo's business model with these games is not working.
Personally, the atmosphere of this game feels really generic. Like, when I listen to the music, I don’t think about Mario and it feels like it could be apart of any generic golf game. It also doesn’t help that Battle Golf takes place in “generic video game land” and the main levels feel a little bland.
Yeah what happened to the style of the old Mario sports games (N64 and GC)?? They had more flavor to them. Everything here looks so square and bland.

5:30 this is exactly my concern that I voiced months ago. Glad I'm not alone. This game looks great overall, but extremely uninspired environment considering it feels way too realistic and not part of the mushroom kingdom

I mean we're getting New Donk as a course in the future and probably other Mario themed courses but yeah, not very Mario themed

@@toastbud6870 I bought it because I love the series. My biggest gripe is definitely the environments, like even the bunkers are realistic, not like in shapes of a blooper or something. I also hate that there's no trajectory guidelines so I don't know for sure if my ball will clear a cliff or obstacle. But so far it's still fun, just not that same vibe I got from literally every other mario golf game, including the game boy color and advance versions

facing progressively harder opponents in more and more difficult courses gave a wonderful sense of progression in the original games.

So you can't aim your shot? Its random based on power and terrain? If that is how it works that has to be the dumbest decision for a golf game.
You can aim it just like in past games, but it may drift a bit from that idea line depending on the accuracy, which is random

I was hyped but idk about not having control of the ball like in past games that really erks me
I should have done my due diligence prior to buying. Changing the previous 3-click system to this mindless 2-click system destroys the game for me. Seems to be in line with Nintendo's trend of removing higher skill ceilings from their games lately. World Tour is much better than Super Rush.
I really still don’t freaking understand why there’s isn’t a tourney mode.
Everyone's complaining about how the accuracy in the hitting is, but isn't that closer to REAL golf? Granted, I haven't played a round of golf in years, but I don't remember having too much control over how accurate my shot was. I'm sure pros have much more control over that than someone like me would, but I thought usually it was smack the ball and hope your trajectory, swing, and other measurements were good enough to get it near where you wanted it to go.
I've never played Mario Golf but the accuracy thing might have been a thing from past Mario Golf games. Not entirely sure so if I'm wrong feel free to correct me but I think it's a thing that people enjoyed from this series.
Golf is about precision. As a beginner it might feel random, just like the first time you throw a dart you won't hit the target.

I agree the results would be more realistic, but the game is less fair. Before, the people with the tightest control got the best scores. Now any skill advantage is being wiped away in favor of randomness to level the playing field. The best players should get to win, just like any other competition.

This game is a pass for me. The removal of accuracy shot is a deal breaker for me. This a complete downgrade of a game from previous games.

The Mario sports and Party titles have never hit the heights of the Gamecube era, as soon as the trailer launched for this I could see it still lacked the personality and charm the old games had.

Exactly what I thought. People are piss because the golf ball won’t exactly line up with where they shot it but hasn’t that always just been golf?? You have to consider wind and everything so it’s not that much off from a Mario golf game.
Yeah, maybe it's 'cause I've never played other Mario Golf games, but everything he was saying regarding hitting your ball sounds...completely normal and expected. I don't see the problem.
I think the problem is when people think of mario sport titles, they usually think over the top, goofy, and not 100% accurate to real life version of the sport, what Andre explain about the wind affecting your shot, that something you would expect out of a Tiger Wood game as it more in line with the actual sport than mario golf is

I really think the “finish it later” approach to games like this really doesn’t work.

No 4-player split screen?! I was planning on buying this specifically because it's the type of game that my mostly non-gaming family would enjoy playing together. But if you can only do speed golf and battle golf with 2 players at a time... I doubt anyone in my family other than me would actually spend much time playing it. I was really looking forward to this one as a multiplayer experience that could stand alongside Mario Kart, but now I'm not so sure if it's worth buying.

@@juanrincon777 I think 4 people can only play in the standard golf mode since that's the only mode where you can take turns. For speed golf and battle golf apparently it's only 2 players per console because everyone goes at the same time in those modes.
I’m looking forward to playing Mario Golf again, but I am definitely having my concerns for how long I’ll be playing. Hopefully the issues won’t stack up too fast and too quickly (or at least for the game to keep my attention for the time it will take for us to get the dlc since that could add in some extra fun).
I hope Toadette will be a DLC character. Also I'm excited for this game. Also imo find the levels amazing. Sure it isn't similar to past Mario worlds but let's be honest, the mushroom kingdom is NEVER in the same spot.
This seems really good game. Pretty much everything I hoped for. The meter is a bit strange, but I like how it doesn't guide you too much. Feels like more realistic than few last ones actually. And you can still hook or slice if you want. I really hope its not too easy to make birdies all the time, thats my only concern.
I also like the courses. Its not Mushroom kingdom, but again looks more like normal day on a course, just some Mario stuff around here and there.
Everything extra around basic golf is just a bonus for me.
Sure some basic tournament mode with multiple rounds and rewards would have been nice.

Same here. Went from day one to instant not-buying it. If they somehow patch manual mode back in, I will pick it up, otherwise no chance.

Honestly the mario sports games have never been the same past the gamecube era. Downgrades and compromises in quality every single entry. Miss good ol camelot, alot.
Camelot made the best games.
No offense but I think that's just nostalgia. Recent consoles also had great Mario Sports games.
The compromises only started in the switch games, Mario Golf world tour had way more content than toadstool tour

Awesome review. Like many I am super hyped for this game but was curious how the new swing meter was going to play in this one. I'm of the HOT SHOTS, Everybody's Golf ilk that enjoy the perfect mechanics of the shot meter and stuff. This is looking to be a more simplified and easier approach to that. I'm kinda worried about that.

Was originally not gonna get it but I'll be able to get it for 20% off, and with New Donk City coming, and this review, I'm convinced. (was hoping for a robust singleplayer and speed/battle golf just look fun)

World Tour just seems better in every possible way. 16 courses with much more variety, 21 characters, more interesting victory/losing animations, better music, etc. Super Rush looks good, but it seems like a step down from what came before
"Robust Single-player?" It just looks like Mario Tennis Aces Single-player mode but it's golf instead of Tennis.

Based on the reviews I'm gonna guess that like Aces, this game isn't as charming as the previous games and is kinda meh in the single-player department but is still very great for multiplayer? If so I don't mind that. I don't mind recent Mario sports games not being as wacky as past games (unless it's Baseball or Strikers, those games are KNOWN for their personality and style so if we get new installments of those but aren't as charming as older games then that'd be lame imo)
The only other Mario gulf game I played was not wacky though.

Man...the two player splitscreen and the ability to do 4 players simultaneously with two Nintendo Switch consoles (two players per Switch) and two copies is very intriguing. I'm glad that they included this option in. Nice review!
You can also use 4 players on the same Switch, everyone just has to take a turn though no splitscreen for 4 players

I learned my lesson after buying Tennis Aces on day one and not liking it. I don’t think I’ve come back to it in almost a year. Such a shame, I really want to like the games but It’s too much
I really wanted a golf game, And they still have hot shots so I will probably pick this up. the courses do look good enough for a hot shots style game, but it being a Mario game with Mario characters you would have hoped for the courses to not look so drab

im kinda confused about the accuracy thing. i assume he's referring to how you could change what angle you hit the ball with that little red dot but it also sounded like he said you could do that with the control stick as you hit it?
Correct, the new method replaces the "red dot" from the older games, where you now use the control stuck during your swing

Man, this seems like another half-baked mario sports game! It’s two in a row now on the switch with Mario Tennis Aces and this one. It just looks so lifeless and the interface changes are extremely questionable. It feels like so long since we got an actually memorable Mario sports title

@@achaudhari101 It doesn't mean it lacks flaws, generic looking maps isn't good for a Mario Golf game anymore when they had unique and creative maps prior. The random accuracy is a removal of skill and half the act of hitting the ball from past entries is gone.
This game is missing a lot at core compared to past entries... even if "enjoyable" it can be a huge letdown.

Honestly the fact that the they promise more DLC is not a sign for the game at all. This business model they have going right now gives off the vibes of "I'll finish it later." How exactly do you expect people to come back to the game when the DLC drops when all the majority of reviews, including the ones from IGN and GameSpot surprisingly are all agreeing that this lack of content at launch is gonna kill any excitement for it?

I loved MG Toadstool Tour for its courses. You just had a "you are really there" -feeling. Super Rush doesn't really have that, imo.

Looks like it will be fun in its own right, but won't be likely to eclipse my personal love for 64 as my favorite Mario Golf game.

i was all over my Nintendo Switch 2 years ago.... now it just seems like they haven't made many games in a while that I want to rush out to get. Its a fun system, but the lack of games that comes out really kill the Nintendo Vibe to me. Ill probably get this when it goes on sale.
Really irks me that the courses aren't really Mario themed. That was always a huge draw for me. I may wait and see if the DLC courses are more creative before committing to a purchase. I also don't play online or have a household that plays games so it's just single player, regular course mode for me and it doesn't look like there's enough here yet.

The speed literally does not matter if you take your time you will finish in plenty of time and if you drop birdies you will win even if you were slow.

Playing as a mii in the single player mode doesn't bother me too much, I don't mind miis, but it would be fun to play as a Nintendo character. I really like the Game boy color game, and I think you were Mario, but I can't remember, but either way, there wasn't much to look at in that game but it was awfully fun
What if there was a miniature isle delfino where you would hit the ball around a small version of the entire isle delfino and the hole would be Corona mountain.
This is the game I was excited about when I first saw wii sports. My first thought was "man Mario golf is gonna be awesome with this thing!" And now, 17yrs later, I can already tell I wouldn't play this game for more than 20mins.

The Mario golf on game cube had a back/top spin by double tapping. It was awesome and added some depth to the game. Is this function in this game?

the one.. tiny flaw of mario golf super rush that i noticed is most definitely the hole victory animations, they feel. so bland compared to toadstool tour and the 3ds mario golf, but everything else feels great.
tho the golfball deff feels more wacky/finicky here, like the backspin/super backspin for some reason, in very specific places on the green, doesn't actually backspin like it should, but goes forward weirdly enough. or the hole being a bit janker than before(i'd prob chalk a few of this up to weather effects)

This seems of interest only to Mario collectors. Seems like something that would grow old in a couple of days.
Similar situation to Tennis Aces and Arms. Most will drop after 2 weeks and it'll keep a small but dedicated community is my guess. That is assuming Nintendo ditches updates after 6-12 months as usual.

There is also no way to adjust AI golfer difficulty at the moment. I don’t know why this wasn’t in the game to begin with on the first place.
Wish Nintendo would release a complete game someday instead of finishing all these games via "free updates"
It's already complete. The updates are just bonuses
Just because it is getting free updates doesn't mean it's not a complete game. You could say any DLC any game gets means the game is incomplete. With how complex the games are now, there will always be updates and patches for even the biggest games.
As a business strategy it makes a degree of sense; It keeps player engagement higher for a longer period of time.
Players come back to the game each time there is a new content release.
Ends up increasing the amount of time people sink into the game over the long hall, which is huge for word-of-mouth advertising and keeping market relevance.
And if it was "finished" people, perhaps even you, would ask for updates, DLC and whatnot.
It's a finished game just with a rollout of some content over time.

Camelot did develop this one! I wish they would make another Golden Sun game.

For me it looks like a non day one game. Looks good but not great. I will probably wait for cheaper used copy.
