I am an 80’s kid through & through which means I was a big time mallrat. The mall was a cornerstone of my youth!!! It is a shame that so many are either empty or waiting to be demolished. Our mall continues to try to stay open but since the demise of Montgomery Wards, Bergners, and Sears it struggles to bring in customers. Time of course brings change and we just have to accept it 😢😢😢
I remember these malls being packed with people. In my mind I can see the ghosts of those past shoppers, still window shopping here. What a shame it's all gone.
For 36 years old, that Mall is in good condition and clean. Technology and online have caused lots of brick and mortar stores to vanish. Inflation with high interest rates along with minimum wage hikes sure makes retail businesses to operate especially in California. Thanks for filming this.
Some Malls could get converted into Memory Care Facilities. Creating "Small Town" streets & shops also city street areas. There's room for Dr offices & nursing staff. The plus it's All under one roof. Outside Patio area could be created. That Bass Pro Shop area of Streams would add to the experience. Restore & Reuse.
Haven’t been there since like 2012, I remember seeing a movie at the theater with my girlfriend back then. It’s a shame seeing all these being torn down.

Just think, the Saturday before Christmas in, say, 1991, this mall would have undoubtedly been hopping with customers. There were people who would have met each other for the first time here through working in one of the retail shops, dated and maybe even later got married and had children. There is history in this mall.
The week before Christmas, the entire parking lot would be full and you'd have to drive around and around hoping to arrive where someone is backing out of their space so you could park.
This is my hometown! I moved away a couple years ago but heard it is closing. I believe they are keeping the one anchor store and demolishing the rest. Parts of the mall are older than the 80's. I went here all the time growing up in the 90's. The movie theater upstairs isn't that old. Built maybe 10 years ago. There are two massive stores on the backside that have been closed for 15-20 years, just walled off. This mall has fallen victim just like many others for the same reasons.
This mall looks a lot like Lloyd Center in Portland Oregon. It was built in the mid 1960s as an open air mall, then a roof was put on in the late 1980s.
It's a real shame, these malls have so much character and are a lot more relaxing to spend a day walking around. And yes, you will be there a day if you go with the wife. "which one of these do you think looks better" "REALLY, THAT ONE?"
From Chicago, Illinois. There are still active malls near me in Chicago, although they're dying slow deaths. Proper people are outstanding! Great video bud.
Trends, technology and culture keep changing. And people don't have the time and money to spend as they once did. Malls just don't seem to fit in anymore.
Yes that's all true, and I would add that malls existed before online shopping, so being able to make purchases online also contributed to the decline of malls.
In Bensalem near Philadelphia, We have a mall called Neshaminy Mall and it will be closing soon too. It was built in 1967. It's been dead for years. It would be awesome if you guys explored it.
Love the channel man, that looks like the Harrisburg mall. I remember going there as a kid when it was in its prime. A shame to see it demolished! If you are still in the area, you should go to the Galleria Mall in York PA. There is some amazing 90s aesthetics alive and well in that mall, most notably the Boscovs store. Its a trip back in time.
Amazingly, my local mall, the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH, is doing remarkably well. People still come in droves and businesses are doing well too. I go to the mall as often as I can. Sucks that this mall is being torn down, what a time capsule.
Glad you had the chance to document it before it meets its end… it’s a nice way to pay tribute to lots of good memories of times gone by. Nothing beats shopping in person.
Same here like to shop in person as well, the mall where I live is a dead mall still has tons of stores but it is dead not a lot of cars in the parking lot. If Macy's or JC Penny's closes the mall becomes a ghost mall.
As someone who’s lived in Florida most of my life I don’t know why they’re not thriving. Free air conditioning and weather escape alone. I remember school shopping While getting hit by a hurricane. Definitely a culture icon. Thanks for sharing this. ❤
I guess shopping on line these days Malls are becoming obsolete. It kind of sad. This mall looks so brand new and beautiful inside. What waste of a good building.
It’s such a shame these mall are closed down. When I was a teenager in the 80’s we travelled to malls every weekend. Pennsylvania was had some amazing malls.
They're demolishing our little mall even before all stores close. Went there the other day and they were already actively tearing down the old herbergers department store.
How the hell were we tricked into buying from the internet "cause most things are cheaper online" was the phrase. Look at the Internet now everything is expensive on there now. A cup of even the basic coffee from Starbucks and those little bread 💩s cost you short of 15 bucks. Damn we got screwed plus no one socializes at all.
All these malls are destined to disappear, people's habits have changed, inflation and the high cost of living are hitting hard and everyone prefer shopping online.
Its Erie that nobody is around and there's playing music it's almost like the night of the comet where nobody's around in the music's playing it's like apocalypse
monmouth mall in eatontown, NJ is up for demolition next month well at least the 2 level mall area along with the shuttered JC Penny and Lord and Taylor to make room for luxury apartments and lifestyle complex better head there soon
Why don't they just leave the mall standing as is and use the building as the housing Isolate and protect bass pro and the book store reuse the remaining for the housing I guess this isn't considered because this idea is just too planet friendly PLEASE STOP BEING SO VERY WASTEFUL IN THE NAME OF PROGRESS
It is eerie that they continue to play old music in abandoned malls when it's dead
Was the tv series kobra kia filmed there ????
@@MyHayley01 not that I know of
As a child of the 80s, I think it's fantastic that they are playing 80s Music! Great Explore! Thanks for taking us along!

It’s a shame malls can’t make it as a business
Convenience killed us. Why go to a mall when you can stay home and shop online.
Also, Walmart, Costco and such. R.I.P malls.
Online shopping. Walmart,Costco,BJs, Target killed them smh
A mall I grew up with here in Oklahoma City now contains government offices, and one entire wing of the mall is dedicated to being a middle school.
@@FREEGEMSmore boring.

Just got done watching Proper People vid that You are in.😊Lol, I thought I recognized You from behind and was like "Wait a minute" 🤔
😂
They should not tear it down but turn it into apts for some ppl .very nice floors.why leave things abandon .reuse the building.

What a huge waste of materials that it can not be repurposed somehow👎🏻 Thank you for sharing it with us. I absolutely LOVED this explore!! Thanks!
Great stories, Devin 👍🏼😃

That’s definitely 90’s decor. In the 80’s my local mall had dark red carpet and everything was a dark brown wood color and tons of neon.

Your state has way too many dead malls
@@sergeiplotsky6179 I know. Franklin Mills Mall and Neshaminy Mall. Oxford Valley Mall is still doing well.
@@sergeiplotsky6179 Also seems Ohio has that problem as well from seeing dead malls on TH-cam.
I would rent out a space to live in.
Cool if they would allow that .
I live in a home but would like the vibe .
Some malls turned spaces into apartments, so it’s possible
Sad to see this Mall in this way. Then you have the nearby Capital City Mall. Busy all the time and lots of action!
Parts of this mall were actually beautiful. It's a shame they can't repurpose it.
As a 90s kid … I miss malls 😢, the last real good one I was at was in Tokyo , definitely reminded me of my childhood

How about a semi-pro camera instead of a cell phone camera? Could've been such a high-quality video.
This mall was built when I was just 2 years old hate seeing malls close breaks my heart
I have a mall near me in Co that is declining . Stores are starting to disappear. Soon, i think it may close for good.
So glad Smithaven Mall is still around!

Thanks, for Sharing this Video. My era. My childhood. 😮😓
Westminster Mall in California still has the 80s-90s vibe
Cool retro mall, great video! BTW, your remark at 14:00 had me in stitches! 🤣👍
Kind of reminds me of the Pyramid mall here in Ithaca N.Y. It is sad to see. I used to love going there.
I hope you'll get some video of the demolition!
Thanks for the awesome video

Will you guys explore the Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem, Pennsylvania? it's from the 60s and about to close
Pretty sure this is the Harrisburg East mall in PA. This used to be such a nice mall! So sad to see it go!
I guess shopping on line these days Malls are becoming obsolete. It kind of sad. This mall looks so brand new and beautiful inside. What waste of a good building.
You can change it in the settings to film horizontal.
Always happy to see your lives!

Man, that mall is old as me..
A place that used to be full of life. So sad to see.
Hell yea nice video 👍💯💯💯
Is that the music playing in the mall? Lol
They're demolishing our little mall even before all stores close. Went there the other day and they were already actively tearing down the old herbergers department store.
I just wish I could in those places and take stuff out too help build a tiny house lol so much wasted all over the world smh
This mall would be a modern mall in my town
Checkers? In a Mall? 😮
Never seen a Checkers in a mall I always think of them as drive thru only.
I’m like you I always think 💭 about the plants being left behind to struggle 😢till they die.

This is how the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale, FL looks like now and it’s still active. It looks like a ghost town except for the Apple Store.
Cool video
Shopping centres in the UK are heading the same way, my local one is half empty with plans for partial demolition
All these malls are destined to disappear, people's habits have changed, inflation and the high cost of living are hitting hard and everyone prefer shopping online.
You could house a lot of people. Homeless people need some help!
This reminds me of Westmoreland Mall. (Still live and running)
Did you find the 80s camera you used there too?😅
TH-cam forced me to go live in wide-screen and vertical. I didn't want to believe me lol
So gorgeous and sooooo much waste so sad they could house so many people just by using some of the stuff the just tear up
For how long has this mall be abandoned? Who pays the electric bill, when places are abandoned for many years and the power is still on? 😮
There looks like movies and tv shows filming there
Love it “Hello Everyone I Am At Mall A Whoops”
Its Erie that nobody is around and there's playing music it's almost like the night of the comet where nobody's around in the music's playing it's like apocalypse
Thats awesome
Everyone orders online now and not go to malls anymore.
It's sad and heart breaking
