    I just got this camera yesterday, and I hated it. Then I learned how to set it up, now I feel like you. This is awesome. The YI 360 desktop app is amazing. I have a SUPER FAST MSI LAPTOP with an NVIDA video card, and it stitched very fast. AND this is last years model so you can get it really cheap, if you hunt. it even has micro HDMI... I am testing a Qoocam too. The Qoocam is really cool, because the quality and the ability to switch between 180 3D and 360 is nice. BTW I liked your REVIEW. TY

    Nice review :) Maybe it's time to scratch the dust off my Yi- no Mac support is the reason i kinda gave up on it. Hope they address this soon.

      LIFE in 360 yeah give it a shot! especially as you enjoy editing your video so much, I think you could get some awesome footage with a bit of work. Lack of Mac support does suck though.

    Do you think this would still be a worthwhile budget starting point in 2020?

    It appears that when you have a sunny day, the camera has very little detail in the shadows and the highlights are blown out. When you have an overcast day the footage appears to be underexposed, not sure why you think this camera is wonderful, the other cameras must be truly horrible? Thanks all the same for the video and sharing sample images.

    Nice video. Do you know how to easily edit the recorded video? Something like insta 360 one x ?

    Great review! Would it be possible for you to upload samples of unstitched video files? I started 360 with the gear VR and and now planning on getting either the YI orthe Fusion, I got sample unstitched files from the fusion and fusion studio crashed every time I tried to stitch them, so i've been hunting for YI files so I can try their software and the stitch process before buying. Hope you can help with this! I asked Ben from Life in 360 and he uploaded fusion samples!

    Have you compared video from it AFTER setting the exposure correctly? I realize at AUTO everything it overexposes...but how does it look (DR, Noise, etc) compared to the others when you MANUALLY expose the image IN CAMERA before shooting (not during post)? Curious if the noise and sky even out with the others mentioned.

    • @The360Guy
      @The360Guy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manually adjusting the exposure does help a bit, but I find that the overall image gets way too dark if you drop it down even a bit. Probably better to do it in post.

    The website of YI is broken and downloading the desktop stitching software or updating the firmware is impossible.
    After some hard work I managed to get the latest desktop software and firmware but this was no easy task.
    I wouldn't recommend this camera while the website is not working and the camera can't be updated via the app. Please check the YI website first before you buy this camera.

    Great video Daniel. Can I ask you, have you figured out how to get the camera to shoot video longer than 4 minutes? The YI "Help Center" website is useless --it says when the SD Card is formatted to ExFat you have options, but I don't get any video length options on my camera.

    Do you know the blind spot distance (mm) whenever the dual lens renders the video? Like is it around 54mm (Samsung 360 V1 camera blind spot). Also does the gyroscope help auto balance the video for whenever the camera is on it's side? Like instead of having the camera lens face forward, it faces downward but still renders the video based on the default horizon.

    I bought this camera in part because of your positive review, but I think you really need to update your video to now include that Yi has not updated the app for Apple IOS 13. It is now impossible to connect the app with the camera. I have written to Yi Technology support but so far no response.Do you have a contact at Yi Technologoy so that they will finally give an answer as to whether they plan to update the app and whether Yi is still supporting this camera? Thanks

    HI! Question: I bought this camera, works great however the editing software they claim to have is vaporware, the link is dead and they email that it's 'coming'. What is your specific work flow to decode it for editing (Premiere?), then encoding it back for 360 use?

  • @ScottAlanMillerVlog

    Been a while, have you seen a stabilization update in the software yet? This looks like a great camera for us, but that would be good to have.

    • @The360Guy
      @The360Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately they didn't support it with software updates after this so no better stabilization. Still good for non-moving video though.

    Thinking of getting the Yi as it seems to be one of the only 360 cameras that doesn't have a garbage android app. For someone that will be working only with Android and Pc rather than Iphone and Mac, would this be a camera you'd recommend? Also do you think it's likely this camera will stay relevant for long or is it worth waiting to see what's released next? Thanks! :)

      One Legged Russian Peasant Boy I use android and PC and it works fine for me. I'd say this will be relevant for at least another year thanks to its high resolution

      The 360 Guy Thanks for the quick reply! How have you found using other android apps such as the Mi Sphere and insta360 one or theta v? I'd love to get a camera that was pocket sized as well as the yi but from what I've read the android apps seem to make them unusable.

    I purchased this camera used (big mistake) last winter after watching this vid amongst others It worked fine on a long trip to Costa Rica until the end of the trip when it started to lock up after using it for a few minute's I would reboot the camera and then after a while reset it. this worked for a while Now the the camera will start up but freezes on the start up window. And shuts down after a few minute's I have tried everything replacing battery and memory card to no avail. Call yi tech support. They tried to help nothing worked and since the camera is out of warranty. I am pretty much screwed and stuck with 250.00 paper weight. The camera did produced some nice images and video when it worked. But after my experience I can not recommend this camera. If you do buy it, buy it new with the one year warranty. Michael

    And there is the reason why it's cheaper! Horrible low light and crapy stabilization! I don't want to carry three cameras one for great video quality during the day the other four great video quality during the night and another for Action stabilization
    Oh yeah the Ying just got in camera image stabilization recently
