I think Homelander left Barbara alive because she already admits that they have no physical prowess against him, and they use psychology to control him. So he left her alive alone locked in the bad room to drive her crazy.

The psychology makes sense since every season it seems Homelander is looking to another authoritarian to fill a parental role for him. Madeline S1, Stormfront (conflating a romantic partner with a mommy figure) S2, Stan Edgar S3, and now Sage S4. Interesting stuff
There's always someone he wants to be obedient towards, or at the very least he wants their approval. He craves it. And now we all know why that is. If Homelander was anyone else on this show, I'd actually feel bad for him, but since he's by far the worst of the supes it's hard to feel bad for the guy at this point.

One thing I just realized: think about how hard it must have been for Homelander to come back to that lab. It was the site of his deepest traumas as a kid, which gave him nightmares and shaped him into the monster he was. Sure he was psychotic with murderous fury but I feel like he was also extremely anxious when the elevator doors first opened.

If you saw The Boys: Diabolical, one of the canon episodes to the prime adaptation showcases a cancer-ridden old woman nearly on her deathbed, leading to her husband trying to save her using Compound V. The effects cause her cancer to mutate into an eldritch-like creature hellbent on absorbing any living being in sight.
So the idea of a mutated cancer parasite in Butcher akin to Eddie Brock/Venom wouldn't be far-fetched.

I feel like a lot of people forget that Neuman's ability is the same as Marie's, she's just way more experienced with Blood Manipulation and finds it probably easier to just pop heads then engage in any form of combat. I don't think Butcher has that specifically, otherwise he's able to wipe just about everyone in the Seven with ease
I don’t think it’s the same as Marie’s. Newman just explodes body parts. Marie can move blood very precisely. If Newman could do that she would cause heart attacks and strokes instead of blowing up heads, drawing way less attention to her murders
Not to mention that her brain is fully developed, so she’d have better control of her powers.

Starlight tactically won the fight, but strategically lost the support of that bill. Firecracker made good on her promise tarnish Starlight's reputation, although the latter did it to herself.
I mean that’s was obviously Sage’s the plan from the get go. That’s why they built the stage across the street from Starlight’s base. There were never a question that Starlight would obliterate the Firecracker in a fight, they just needed to provoke her and film it.
Not because of sexual anything, The Boys have killed me liking Frenchie going forward. Quite obviously the Colin romance subplot was guaranteed to implode from the get go, savagely hurting both Colin and Frenchie. But worse, it gave a survivor of Frenchie’s past massacre’s a space to provide a sympathetic and personal account. Frenchie murdered a whole family, including at least one kid. It’s suggested he had killed other kids in his life. By comparison, A-Train killed Robin and Pop Claw, and no kids. It took me a full 3 seasons to accept the idea of A-Train being redeemed and forgive him. With the series guaranteed to close out with the 5th season, Frenchie doesn’t have that kind of time. So Frenchie has become one of the least likable characters in the whole show. I honestly hope some really bad shit happens to him.

Frenchie's arc kind of took an irredeemable turn imo. I mean, that is some Ted Bundy level debauchery from him, a virtual serial killer, to screw one of his murder victims who was left without a family. And going by he and his old partner's discussion where she was mad about him bringing in 'another stray' and knew that he was having a relationship with them as if it was nothing new. So that leads me to believe this isn't the first murder victim he's done this to. If Frenchie dies, I wouldn't say that I would be all that bummed about it.

This episode was brutal, in the fucked up kinda of way. It made things very uncomfortable. Every one has something from their past that’s is f*cking them up. This season is definitely about guilt and about dealing with the past. Kimiko with her guilt for recruiting girls, Frenchie with his past murders, Annie with her abortion and her bullying, butcher with his Becca stuff and how he let Ryan into homelanders hands, A train with his past of being a terrible person, homelander with his past trauma, etc.

Butcher's parasite is also a complete wildcard. Like, where did he get it from? Is it somehow a power from the regular V that for some reason is different to his temp V powers? Doesn't make too much sense why it would be different since it seems to be based on genetics but where would he got it from? All the way back in Russia already maybe?
