Unfortunately, many people forget that the organ is NOT separate from the building, together they constitute the entire instrument. This relationship is why I love good organs and their music.

Really? I kind of thought that the reverb overwhelmed the clarity and emotional impact of many of the phrases. But the playing was OMG... I wish I had been there in that very room. CVD
Just a thought,,acoustics as this are perfectly normal for most churches outside of this country. American churches tend to over stuff their churches with carpet and padding for the comfort of the parishioners, not understanding that this music was written for a certain acoustic in mind. The church where I believe Franck composed this piece (Sainte Clotilde) is an immense church in Paris with fine acoustics.

CVD, I think you're right, but I still love this performance. And, yes, American churches are generally overstuffed and dry. That's because the emphasis is on declamation rather than ritual. But I love the churches in Paris and I hope someday to visit some others in France. I have a bucket list. All the best.

Btw, I played that organ many years ago (back in the late 80's), I don't remember it having a French console like that. Is the console new?
I played that organ many times back in the late 60's. Yes, it was the standard AGO console back then. The acoustics in that church are astounding, probably the most reverberant in NYC. Here's a little fanfare I improvised there back in 1968. soundcloud.com/user-516772753/kulps-fanfare?
Very impressive, both play and instrument. Unfortunately I have the impression that one of the pedal keys is not working as it should. It seems to activate two keys at once or to be terribly out of voicing, as is repetitively hearable like around 9:37. Nevertheless a remarkable video.
