NORTH EAST TASMANIA'S BEST- Roothy
Scotsdale in Tasmania's north east is the hub of some of the wildest four wheel driving anywhere in the world. Our trip kicked off at Mount Stronach, 500 metres and very cold because of it. Sub zero temperatures are regular days up here and local knowledge is everything.
Back in the days when I had hair, I got to mix it with a couple of young local Tassie boys who lived for finding the roughest tracks around. They knew the bush and loved every bit of it. Perfect guides with that great spirit of adventure combined with a whole lot of bush experience.
Meet Trout and Luke, a couple of lads with a whole lot of experience. A bright red Nissan GQ up against a dirty old green Toyota. The Patrol's big tyres and jacked up clearance makes a whole lot of sense but Milo's got those magic locker buttons in her favour too.
So it's the treachery of old age versus the exuberance of youth. Which all sounds good until you front up to a big mud puddle and wind up sitting on the axles. Oh dear. There's a whole lot of winching tips and mud driving experience thrown in here too!
So why do they call him Trout? Because that's what he does, finds trout. Every time we stopped Trout had a rod out testing any puddles or creeks in the vicinity. But then Tassie's the perfect place for living off the land. Wild, beautiful, always an adventure. And didn't we have on this time around!

I'm 16 now this is one of my favorite episodes when I was little my dads got a video somewhere I used to think your name was Milo 😂 I used to say I wanna watch Milo I was lucky enough to meet you at tough truck when I was 9 or 10 there's a photo of me sitting in Milo 1 you were a big influence on me as a kid thanks roothy

I had my stock t30 xtrail up on the rock a few days ago , my father first made the road up mt stronach in 1977 when he had a lease on the mountain , I have been going up there for 46 years.

that hill up to cascade dam has now been smoothed out to the point ive been able to drive up and down in a stock 2000 Subaru Forrester with K02s. It definatley still took all the Forrester had in her low first to get up there at full gvm.
Yeah now they've blocked it off with a fucken boom gate to allow only them bikers through. Although if you get a couple fellas and move that big bolder next to the boom gate, you can get a little car through.
@@TasmanianHillBilly if you head to the start of the second bridge and take the track up from there that is the way they went in and will take you to the dam and onto Mount Paris dam road. I've now got a pk ranger and did the climb on 30 inch all terrains at 25 psi. You can also go up cascade dam road to the dam and go top down. I know this because of being a volunteer for a mountain bike event and being able get places is my specialty even when I had old Sue.

You can't access that cascade dam track anymore unfortunately. The track has been smoothed out for bloody mountain bikers and a boom gate put up to stop 4wders.
