I became a medic not long after learning about Desmond Doss. When we arrived at Fort Sam Houston, they took us to the combat medic museum to learn about the heritage we were going to earn a place in. There’s a wall there with all the Medal of Honor recipients that are medics, and I found Desmond Doss on that wall. I knew if I was even 1/4th the medic and the man he was, I’d be alright.

Medics that are leaps and bounds better than me, or I look back at the ones like Desmond Doss, Ben L Solomon, all those guys and try to be a little better every day.
I wanted to become a medic after learning about him too, but ended up getting a 35 series job.

@@alexipilon8319 Vince Vaughn is a actor, I think Alexi is referring to Saving Private Ryan. It’s a World War 2 movie like Hacksaw Ridge. I’d suggest Saving Private Ryan, it’s pretty good as well. Though I will say, I don’t think Saving Private Ryan is based on a true story but it’s still very good. Vince Vaughn plays in it.

My uncle was a medic in Vietnam and they made a shrine to honor Doss , they would pray to his spirit for courage and that our brothers will not die.

This is simply beautiful…. Love the build up, love the song, love the movie - although the lyrics (on paper) involve more of a one-sided romance one-night stand type of vibe, the movie and the song are similar in their pleading nature to keep/save someone…. Even if that person is yourself.
