I'll always remark that if books aren't political then why book banning exists? Like mentioned in the video there are all too many reasons why books are political. You just can't argue that they're not.
I found you through booktube!! I love this video mashup of bookish things!! Here are more things: - I am also excited for the new VE Schwab and I am also considering going to that event you mentioned, but I live 5h away and need to figure out time off work, travel and stay XD - I finished Gideon this week!! I jumped into Harrow and I'm confused but hopeful I can finish it before my library loan expires - omg ive never heard someone compare Kata Basis to Piranesi??? What??? - woooo good luck with home renos!!❤❤
I actually really enjoyed "A Pirate's time for Tea" a lot more than the first book. The main reason was that two couples are being focused on and one of them doesn't really have a big conflict. Also while there is a lot more plot, it is still very cozy.
I've also been really unimpressed with so much of what i read this year and it was a major bummer. also glad im not the only one that thinks the covers for bury our bones is boring
Honestly, this was so motivating, I'm getting a new bookshelf tomorrow (so excited!!!!!!) and I still need to pack up my room so I can actually get it in there and build it, and I've been procrastinating but now I'm going to do it! Also, I want to read 60 books next year, but also I wanted to read 52 this year and it's not looking too good, so who knows 😂
I came across you organically on booktube over the summer and was like....hmm they look familiar... and then realized I followed you on tiktok (I deleted tiktok for my mental health last year) Currently a couple of chapters into The Last Hour Between Worlds, a sapphic rivals to lovers sci-fantasy-mystery-romance about alternate layers of reality. It came in my illumicrate and sounded fun and vaguely New Years Vibey.
Shadowof the Gods is 🔥²! I also can't wait to tear into my copy of Heavenly Tyrant! My last holiday romance is Set the Record Straight by Hannah Bonam‐Young, which is a cute and cozy neorodivergent sapphic romcom. Just picked up two books about my fav winter goddess Skaði! I got Njord and Skaði by Sheena McGrath and Skaði's Saga by Phil Tucker
Booktube bestie here - I found you searching for new fantasy after I read Divine Rivals! I don’t remember the video but I was instantly in love with your vibe. I look forward to the new year and new hot takes!
*cough* going to retry that the number hash was probably the problem. i found you through booktube and i adore your content! Bi-books-video? Let's go i'm super into queer books videos, 99% of fantasy videos are like "Here's the hetrom fantasy number 5000" and i just need more queer in my life. Also every single one of your 2025 list? Let's absolutely go, i need them all so bad, hope they're all 6* for you!
GUH if I don't get my hands on Alecto the Ninth soon I might just go absolutelty feral. I NEED it. I finished the honey witch yesterday (not really in theme with the season oh well) and i was a liiittle disappointed by it, felt predictable and just kind of meh.
I can't wait to read the last book in the Fallen Gods series! I recently finished The Last Girls Standing by Jennfier Dugan which was good but the ending confused me. I'm starting to read Haunted Melody by Chloe Spencer which I'm excited for.
I am a huge fan of mac n cheese books (books that might have simplistic writing and minimal world building but are fun to read and bring me joy) and even a great number of those are political. One of my fave books takes place literally over 3 days and is entirely focused on a teen girl talking to like 5 people and it's also a scathing reflection of the failures of the american prison systems and how they fail victims. Powerful princesses take over the world books are political- even if you just read them for the pretty dresses and kissing princes. Not like the other girls books are a direct result of lower classes gaining access to the novel + literacy in the 17th-18th century in England. Also, I was raised in a very phobic home where horrific beliefs were spread casually over dinner without rebuttal and ended up not absorbing any of it and I truly credit that to media- especially books. You can't absorb these dehumanizing narratives about people that have already been humanized for you (hint- that's why they want to ban these books.)
You have me contemplating tea with whiskey. I can't decide if this is an affront to tea or a waste of good whiskey. It was precisely for this occasion god made Texas Tea. My suggestion for the potential banning of TikTok is to ignore the ban entirely. In the name of comradery (literally), just turn on your VPN and continue using TikTok, which will continue to have a billion users and growing around the world... most of which could not possibly care less what the US wants them to do. I say comradery because all things Google have been banned from China forever, and they all just got a VPN. Power to the people. 🤫 If the fascists really do all the things they are threatening to do, people may want to have multiple VPN's they switch between.
4:10 Love that rant! "Stop making [xyz] political!" Babe. Sweety. If it isn't political to you, that's because you agree with the politics being presented. For everyone else it's been political all along.

Bans exist because some books are political. Doesn’t mean all of them are
The beginning of this video where you talk about reading being political and how well you said it is exactly why I follow you. Thank you.
I’m glad I’m not the only one let down by the cover of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. But you better believe I still preordered it.
I found you through booktube. I love your content
I found you through BookTube! Fellow Canadian here (East Coast here!) Merry merry to you and yours!

I didn't realize Heavenly Tyrant came out! Got some money from family members over the Holidays, so I might pop to the book store....

This feels like a winter for late night whiskey. Hoping to end the year with "Drive Your Plow Over The Bones Of The Dead."
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I subscribed over a year ago and had no clue you were on Tik Tok. I don’t have the app, it’s too toxic and chaotic for me haha
I would love to see you do a book recommandation about bone magic/necromancy while showing your skulls collection!
Can't wait for your bi books video. I love the mug you're using!

Extremely off topic but the urge to steal that mug is strong………i wont……….but you know……
