I think a lot of the people talking about understeer here have never driven a stock non-sti or wrx at the limit They're front heavy, stiffer front suspension, and set up to understeer from the factory. I had this same drivetrain in a base model impreza, only time it would dare oversteer is with very aggressive throttle and brake inputs on snow or ice. I think this is as fast as you can drive a non-turbo legacy on stock tires. I now have a turbo 2008 legacy, it's much more willing to slide :)
What has the setup got to do with him pushing through a corner? He's not driving the car on the limit, he's driving it waaayyyy over the limit and because the car refuses to oversteer he's getting away with it. This person is capable of driving, the other videos show this so it seems odd that rather than coming off the throttle slightly to load up the front he just chooses to keep pushing through the corner lol. I've seen people do this on low powered RWD cars when they are on super sticky tires for the first time (Like Avon ZZ/AR-1), the car has so much grip they are flat out in corners and don't realise the front end isn't actually turned in correctly but the car will never oversteer due to lack of torque.
@@attackracer I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm saying he is understeering it on purpose, which has nothing to do with the setup. Look at the steering angles, he is flat out with 180 degree of lock in a lot of corners that would need considerbly less steering angle if he just let off the gas...
Clearly whoever is saying the understeer is avoidable has never driven this kind of car with these kind of tires in this kind of low speed corners. It is a struggle, and you need to chuck it all over the place to get anywhere.
Not to mention understeer is likely dialed in from factory and this car is AWD, like idk what people expect. Like yeah he could Scandinavian flick it into corners but he'd lose a shit ton of speed if he did that every time, I actually think he's driving pretty effectively for the situation

Looks like, its impossible to oversteer this Legacy. I would suggest : 1. Place to the rear old winter tyres 2. Left foot braking will dive the nose to enter the corner and helps to oversteer it (handbrake is for eginners)
Good efforts Stiffer rear ARB and if you have lowered it at all use some roll center correction end links on your steering arm Get a little camber in front and as much positive castor on the front as you can (flip the rear mounts) Will drive totally different and suit your aggressive inputs more so
No worries dude :) really enjoyed watching you battle the understeer game ... unlike the crybabies that probably have never driven a Subaru fast I was laughing so hard Keep the uploads coming
@@RustBucketMotorsport Ohhh. It's very narrow tire for the legacy... I think stock it is 215/45... Legacy bl weights around 1500 kg, you need more tire grip. 205 maybe good for some gravel slides, but for asphalt you need more tire grip first of all - tire thikness minimum 225\40, better 235/40, or 245/35 - but you need to roll fenders for 235 and more. Stock suspension bushings are crap! Put some good bushings (whiteline or powerflex for example) with caster and camber adjustment. Make negative camber for front (minimum minus 2 degrees, better minus 3) and one degree less of negative camber for rear. Get 6 degree caster angle, toe zero on rear and slightly toe out on front. You will see your understeer will almost dissappear, and it will be more rwd fun behavior. After bushings you can try coilovers and other stuff, but first of all tires and bushings. Good luck, and waiting to see new video after mods))
Yeah, it definitely needs more caster, i can see from the tire wear that the front tires roll on the side wall. But how can i get more caster without modifying the strut tower?
I would love to see it with switched cars. Your lines were so much better but this terrible understeer has stopped you from carrying any more speed into the corners.
The front tires are doooooone with that amount of understeer. Trail braking/lift-off seriously helps rotate the rear on stock Subarus. Otherwise, you’re just gonna keep fighting with the AWD system until the front tires lose all tread.

Uhhh, are you doing that on purpose? i mean i dont do irl track day, but im pretty sure even in sim racing games, thats not how the car suposed to sound when you turn...
Excessive understeer resulting from premature overturning of the front tires. Insufficient time for vehicle stabilization. Suboptimal throttle application. Lack of effective trail braking and overall poor braking technique. Inefficient corner entry compromising the exit. Inadequate use of braking to assist in vehicle rotation. Overall, the inputs were excessively aggressive.
@@Jonas-xy8ir On the steering part, is it that he was entering the corners at too high of a speed, (as in do you believe the car cannot handle a corner at that speed), or can it, but his steering technique is just bad
When trying to go around a corner as fast as possible, you combine braking into the corner and steering in one part (Trail braking) That helps with rotation. While I do not believe they entered the corner too quickly, they could benefit from utilizing the actual brakes to rotate their car and maintain a tighter line on the inside. This would allow for better preparation of the exit without inducing oversteer. The current approach of relying on tire scrubbing to slow the car mid-corner disrupts the exit line and leads to a transition from understeer to oversteer.
