@@jackoates6418 That's the main reason Russia is suffering heavy casualties and losing morale. They were lied to. Usually a huge large scale assault like this requires exercises and briefing your troops about it.
Literally, Pearl Harbor wasn't suddenly attacked. There were spies over there to make easier for the attackers, also invasion of Sicily was also like this, planned with locals to get the most info as possible to assault Italy. Can't say the same thing about D-Day unfortunately since the many boys over there didn't know anything about it.
This is almost the same situation. Military operations without briefing most of the troops usually ends up failing to achieve the objective with a small cost.
They knew what they were doing.
This isn't even the tenth time Russia has invaded Ukraine.

I think the most depressing part about this is the indirect reference to their former unity with the song being from the times when they were together. Not to mention “When We Were At War” can be interpreted as “when we were at war together” and its really displaying how tragic this whole conflict is. Nothing but death and suffering for all except the orchestrators.

@@wilhelmvonpreussen Thats completely true, its just so sad how two cultures so intertwined and close got ripped apart even further from each other because of an egotistical rich man who hungers for power, that being Putin. I will not doubt that the Ukrainians feel detached from Russia, but I will also not doubt that the average Ukrainian and average Russian have much in common. This war alone is going to leave a stain on their relationship, one will which probably do the opposite of what Putin intended. This will not unite the two at all.

I will not pretend as though Russia is gracious and kind with its acts towards Ukraine in the past either, but its not like they thirsted for each other’s blood, at least, the common person from either did not, and currently do not hunger for each other’s death. Wishing for Russian blood, as in, generalized, all Russians, is just as unjust as their invasion into Ukraine and their slaughter of Ukrainians. However the difference is that one hasn’t been enacted.

Honestly I've been thinking about what kind of Russian/Ukranian war songs are to come out of this conflict. Afghanistan and Chechnya produced some certified bangers, and I'm sure this war will be no different.
It's a tragedy, and I'm not saying I'm "happy to be getting new music" or something morbid, just a shower thought I wanted to share.
Pray for the civilians and the Soldiers and their families that everyone involved on both sides has minimal grieving to do, and that it ends quickly.

What's even more sad is that, at the point where the borders of Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia touch, there's a monument called "The Three Sisters", that symbolizes friendship between the three nations. Seeing how two of those "sisters" are fighting each other, looking at this monument will never feel the same.

One of the end results of conflict is a lot of dead, crippled and scarred young men who could have lead a much differemt and better life. My thoughts are with the guys on both sides, it would be amazing if we all decided that the big wigs could fight their own wars.

I saw a video of a captured Russian soldier. He was kneeling on the ground as civilians screamed at him, incredibly pissed about their lives turning into a war zone. Skinny kid, super pale. Definitely younger than me. I have nothing but pity for all parties. War is so awful.

although this doesnt apply to all russian troops, there are many of them who don't want this. there are a number of them who were tricked, or even forced to fight in ukraine. intercepted calls from russian troops to their mothers and girlfriends reveal just how depressing things are on their side. one soldier was particularly unlucky. he expresses how this war is just wrong, and he wants to go home, there is no point in shooting at his brethren from another country. what did his mother say in response? "then who will protect our motherland? do not be a coward"

Special forces loses in Gostomel are not so heavy ~17 of 200 died, according to my information from people in "Силы специальных операций" and "Wagner" group.
Only 3 helicopters of 30 were shot down in the first attack. But VDV loses are real and heavy in Kievs fornt it's possible that ~1.000 russian soldiers died only in this front.

They took more casualties in a week than the US has in 30 years of combat in the Middle East. Ukraine would've capitulated already to an actually competent military the size of Russia's.
