- The siege of Mariupol was a military action in Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The battle, started on 24 February 2022 and concluded on 21 May 2022, when the remaining Ukrainian fighters surrendered and left Mariupol. By 22 April, the remaining Ukrainian forces had retreated to the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, a massive and highly defensible industrial complex.The Red Cross described the situation as "apocalyptic", and Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of engineering a major humanitarian crisis in the city, with city officials reporting that about 21,000 civilians have been killed. Ukrainian officials also reported that at least 95% of the city has been destroyed during the fighting, largely by Russian bombardments.

I'm from Luhansk region and left it (like the majority of Ukranians) for West of Ukraine, the Russian mercenaries brought hell on earth to us. We were all in peace and there were not a single separatist movement before 2014. I also visited Mariupol in 2019, it was a beautiful city and most people spoke Russian (just like me), this so called opression from a single battalion is B.S.
Yet some idiots say that this is a "liberating operation". Hope your good brother, much love from Poland. 🇵🇱❤️🇺🇦

Those guys and gals! The Azovstal soldiers were released just yesterday in the prisoner exchange conducted by Turkey! That may not be a real happy ending (especially since it's hard to imagine what those guys went through), but it is not the bad one for sure!

@@datboi6671 one of the commanding officers is still a POW but the other has been ordered to stay in Turkey for the duration of the war since that was a part of the agreement (Russia doesn’t want Ukraine to have commanding officers like him)

Regardless of the political beliefs of the fighters, what they did was pretty heroic imo and deserves to be made into a movie. Imagine spending weeks sheltering in tunnels to hide from the incessant enemy artillery. What a badass storyline that would be.

several helicopters flew in and out of mariupol to supply the defenders of mariupol. on theire last trip several units went onboard the helicopter knowing this was a one way trip either they were gonna be shot down or they were gonna be there when the city would ultimatly fall under the pressure.

I was in Ukrainian recon squad in 2015, most of time we spent deep far from line in the enemies occupation fields deep in Donetsk region near Mariupol. I have friends from Азов, ДПСУ and 36th Marine Brigade. I saw full-scale invasion in Kharkiv while working on ambulance. I spent my vacation on rotation of Hospitaliers in Severodonetsk and Lisichansk. One of my pals died on Azovstal on 5th of April 2022, few friends came after Bakhmut to refill their squads and take a few weeks of rest. I wish I can come back to army to save my country when my residentship of ambulance doctor is over.
I'm half Jewish, half Armenian, but inside I'm Ukrainian. The victory will ours, I'd rather die if it will not.

You say that Ukraine has experienced so many casualties that they can’t fight anymore but yet they still stand and keep fighting. They haven’t lost yet

Isn't it weird how we have absolutely no fucking clue what happened in there? All we know is that a few thousand Russians went in, and around only 30% of those who went in came out? About how almost 90 percent of the city was destroyed in the fighting? On how, by NATO standards, neither side should've been combat effective by the end of the battle? Its genuinely so scary about few details there are about what happened in there.
Oh that’s if you listen to Nazi approved media. It was in fact a smaller force of Russians assaulted a Nazi strong mhold, cleared it within 10 days of open fighting and then bezeigend the remainder for 44 days while the Nazis hid behind the very own wives and kids. Oh, and the Nazis took full losses as everyone was either captured or killed, while the Russians only took 15% losses.

Azov's neo-Nazi elements were largely removed in 2015 with their integration into the Ukrainian National Guard, and the beliefs of potentially remaining individual soldiers hardly matter because they do not influence policy or strategy
