      Yeah, I'm all about this. Especially since I already own the winner! (Or equivalent) (DP-006)
      Keep up the good work. People like you who are willing to take the time to put up useful demos/information are truly kind to the rest of us. Subscribing now.

    I would actually argue that the Tascam unit CAN be used for serious studio productions. For example, if you got a good vocal or guitar track on the road, and wanted to add it into the studio mix, the quality of it's built-in condenser mics would be passable. The Tascam was made to be like a sketchpad for ideas, but because of the high-quality of the it's built-in mics, one could technically record an entire record on this. Effects, such as reverb, can be added on the unit itself, as I understand. Bruce Springsteen, famously, recorded his entire Born in the USA album on an old Tascam four-track tape recorder. The same principle could (significantly) be applied to the Tascam's digital version of this (the actual knobs, and dials, etc). (Incidentally, the BOSE Micro-Br is known to have a very intuitive interface for it's size, which may be preferable to the Tascam. Just be prepared to plug in your own microphones--as can be done on the Tascam as well, of course).

      The album that Bruce Springsteen recorded using a Tascam Portastudio was “Nebraska.” He intended to simply demo some new material and then re-record the songs in the studio but he felt the organic vibe of the demos were better as they were. They still dubbed the four tracks through a proper desk onto 1” or 2” tape and properly EQ’ed and mastered them before release.
      The Tascam DP04 and DP06 do not have any built in effects, such as reverb. The DP08, however does have dedicated reverb onboard.

    I bought the Boss Micro BR when it was new on the market. I still am impressed with the mic quality and the unit's reliability some 14 years on. The SD cards that work in them are no longer available as I think they only take up to 2 GB but as long as it comes with one you can always reformat after transferring the data and use it again.
    One problem I found was recording from stereo outs into the input. The balance isn't great

      Yeah I think the MicroBR is excellent. I use a BR600 now as it's slightly more versatile. But yep, the Micro is a champion :) #Gearfacts

    For a built in mic, that tascam sounds fantastic.

      Yeah the detail is impressive. I'll be using it to do all the audio for my new TH-cam channel when it starts, it'll be more of a chat show so it'll be interesting to see how it performs. Thanks for watching Gearfacts!

    Thank you so much for this review. I've been trying to decide which model to purchase and keep coming back again and again to this video for info. All these models can be purchased used for around £45 now and I'm torn between them all. I'm drawn toward the Boss for its sleek looks and SD card storage, but then the Zoom looks much easier to use and has the bass accompaniment in addition to drums. But what's putting me off is the Smart Media storage card, pretty obsolete nowadays. Will probably opt for the Zoom in the end. Anyway, thank you this has helped me immensely.

      That's so nice to hear, I'm glad the review helped. Personally I loved the Boss MicroBR and used it for years. But it's all about personal preference and recording situations. Thanks from Gearfacts :)

      I've owned the Zoom and MicroBR..my advice from owning them is get the MicroBR. It's a lot easier to navigate around and decent quality. The Zoom isn't bad but just not as easy to get to some of the features. Still it's a cool unit.

      @@gearfacts MicroBR is better unit..Zoom is held back simply by the age, media etc. I think the MicroBR is fantastic personally but everyone looks for different things, especially in music gear. I've owned 2 BR 600 units and looking to get another (sold the other two, mistake) but Micro is great for the size.

    You have quite the breadth of reviews. Could I plug in a mic to the Boss MicroBR? I want a professional mic and to plug my electric guitar in as well. Is this possible?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep you can plug a good mic into it. It's ok to use the guitar input if you want the larger plug, just be sure to set the levels right.

    The tascam sounds good but it is prone to freezing and when this happens it will not save what has been recorded. Many sessions have been lost because of this flaw and am gonna get a micro br instead.

    The gain on the Boss is much lower. What's the comparison like if they are the same?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oldskool Good observation. The boss mic will get more noisy as it goes up but of course so will your signal, but the ratio seems to stay about the same. After much experience I’ve found the Tascam to have consistently superior mics. GF

    32khz?? I think the Korg Pandora recorder was the same then! And used a smart media slot instead of sd card. Also had effects and built in rhythms. The BR which I now have, and the tascam which I hope to have soon, both sound and do better. Zoom is out

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep the Pandora and early Zoom recorders both did 32khz. Although in their slight defense I will say that the difference is surprisingly difficult to notice, whereas the jump from 44.1khz to 48khz is to me quite noticeable.

    Once again, Great video!
    Tascam sounds great! It is also the one I've never tried. Does it have built in drums?
    The Zoom wins over the Boss for the programmable drums, I also found it easier to navigate, and the batteries last longer, I only have noticed hiss when plugging in a 1/4 mic, But the boss is super slick, it feels solid and uses SD instead of smart cards. I want to try Tascam the controls look solid. Please make more contests on these machines! this is awesome.

    • @gearfacts

      Hey thanks for the great feedback, man! Firstly, the Tascam has no built-in drums of effects! This is a stark contrast to the other units and a bit of a shame. It really makes up for it in recording quality though. It's like it's just a few very high grade components put together with no room left for anything fancy. Be aware also that its operating system is slightly fiddly, but that's just a case of becoming familiar with it I guess. As for your other comments, I agree with all of them 100%. Thanks for watching Gearfacts!
