Enjoyed seeing Vivica Genaux in Melbourne . She was in Sydney for Pinchgut's Operas Artaserses and did a side trip for one concert at Hamer Hall which I could afford plane fare accommodation ticket! A wonderful experience. There is nothing like live concert to really reveal a voice and presence. She has a great personality, not prima donna, but dynamic and grounded, both.
Simone no tendrá mucha potencia de voz pero tiene un timbre diferente a otras sopranos, muy personal y que luce más en arias o pasajes tranquilos, donde haya mucho sentimiento. La mezzosoprano tiene más potencia vocal pero Simone es más teatrera...más teatral.
I bought the CD for Genaux and thank God she features strongly on it. I fail to see what the hype about Kermes is about. I get the same impression from her that I had from Victoria de los Angeles--one never knows what is going to come out of her mouth every time she opens it, and I strongly suspect she doesn't know either. She obviously appeals to some audiences as a visual spectacle, break-dancing her way through arias as she does, put pairing her with Genaux--who is in every aspect a far greater artist than her--does her no favours at all.
La Kermès ne brille pas par la sobriété , elle en fait trop, elle agite trop son corps sur l'accompagnement musical, elle se prend pour un chef d'orchestre… elle confond le jeu théâtral avec les effets de la musique sur elle, ses propres transports musicaux, à la limite du risible...à 5. 21, je ne la suis plus : elle transforme en genre buffo ce qui n'en est pas et elle est fière de faire ça, ce qui fait d'ailleurs rire l'auditoire...ça devient complètement hors sujet et, pire, mal chanté… j'aimerais bien trouver ce duo avec une autre...
