Great review. Can't wait to have this expansion.
One question though... i have read the rules multiple times, out of excitement really :-) ... where does it say that you resolve the Surges immediately? Best way possible yes, but i can't find anything about immediately. Depending on the enemy type they are in different order on the AI-sheet and the only thing i find in the rule books is that you should resolve the AI combat top to bottom... therefore if f.e. Surge is in 3rd place of the actions the AI does step 1 and 2 first, no? Thanks for the feedback...

Nick, I know you're just trying to make a living, but having nothing but paid previews for the last five months has kind of taken the joy out of watching this channel. Any timeline on getting back to new reviews?

Felt the same way after I played the original Runebound. I loveeeed it. But I was like wow this game needed to be Coop. Sadly FFG didnt agree and for some reason it took them like 2 years to finally release a coop expansion.

Whats with all the paid previews now? You're only getting a couple of hundred watches now???

Very good review. Thanks, Nick! A shame FFG didn't include this cooperative stuff in the core box.

I'd love to have this expansion, but I already have so many co-op games I don't really need to convert a competitive one. I bought Runebound to "fire" Talisman for my fantasy adventure game. I think I'd rather just play something like Legends of Andor if I wanted to go co-op.
While I'd of course like to have it (we all want everything!) I think I'll have to pass on this one.

How is Legends of Andor for replay-ability and character customization? I looked at it a while back but passed on it but I don't remember much about it. I haven't found any issue with the replay-ability of Runebound and I'm curious to try out this expansion since I got it last week at the Fantasy Flight Game Center. The food is pretty decent there.

The customization isn't as deep as Runebound, not nearly as many different items and such. The co-op element feels a lot more puzzle-y. The replayability I can't really comment on yet, as I haven't beaten all the scenarios yet so I haven't repeated. The main game feels more "thinky" as you really need to make some hard choices on what to do. The boat expansion feels more adventure and fighty, as you move your group around islands, using the wind direction to make good choices on how to sail the ship around. You have to work together a lot.

I like the randomness of Runbound's various event decks and just how different each experience can be with all the ways to design the characters. I recall something about other players talking about the lack of replay-ability once you go through all the scenarios of Legends of Andor. I don't think I will buy Legends of Andor. Maybe I'll play through Legends of Andor sometime at the local FLGS's game library.

All the things you said you like are what I like about the competitive game. I guess I should also stress I have a good amount of co-op games, also lowering my desire to convert the competitive. Also, every game of Runebound I've played one of us has been extremely weak due to some bad luck fights... Playing a game of Runebound where everyone is a bad ass at the end seems pretty unlikely, but there in lies the game I suppose.

I like making badass characters. Overpowered characters are a big part of why I play. I've had at least a few games of Runebound where I've wiped out the boss in the first combat round though if I don't then most of the time the boss is dead by the second. I've had at least one character do at least 23-25 damage in the very first combat round. I haven't gone into 3 rounds of combat for a while but I remember one of my characters who went into 3 rounds of combat was able to avoid or mitigate all damage and remained untouched. My girlfriend hasn't been able to beat me once so I'll be glad to try the co-op. I've tried my own co-op rules before in giving the main baddy about 2.5 or 3 times the original health and 1 random equipment. Even then my girlfriend was not happy that she died and I wiped out the dude basically untouched. I really like Runebound.

The prepared token is strange and silly looking. Why not a more standard round or square token? The 3e movement system is still poor against the more challenging 2e game. FINALLY an AI battle system for the monsters which SHOULD have been in the base game. I wouldn't even buy the 3e base game without buying this expansion. So is this game worth a $100 investment?
