  • In this video I unbox, set up and test the Wedge Pro segmenting sled by Quality First Wood Products (Mike Pearson). Is this the simplest jig for new segmented woodturners? Watch the video to find out. First some useful links

    With that out of the way, I have 12 minutes to kill while I wait for the video to upload. So, is this really the easiest jig for cutting segments? I can't possibly know that since I have not used every single jig in existence. But what I can tell you is that this jig will make it super easy to cut segments for woodturning. Will it cut the wood and glue up the rings for you? No. If you're currently designing that type of jig or just had a great idea to build that jig, just remember where you heard it from. Once you get it perfected, send me one. Remember... If you design a jig that cuts your segments for you and glues everything together, I want one to test. Feel free to use my idea but you'll owe me a free sample. Ok, now back to the Wedge Pro... It really is simple to operate once it's set up properly. I should mention that even though Mike has made it really easy to set up by providing meticulous instructions and setup guides, it's up to you to follow the directions to the letter. Cmon, I mean if you don't bother to read the directions you can't possibly expect things to work properly. The sled will only be as accurate as you are during set up, so be careful and follow the directions. You've been warned. So, even though you were warned, you didn't follow the directions correctly or you're having some issues... no worries. Mike is a great person with a big heart. If you call him, and describe your issue, he will be more than willing to try to help you remedy your issue and get you back on track. Mike is just an awesome individual, but please do your best before calling Mike. Whatever you do, don't call me. I don't answer the phone. I don't even think I have a phone, and if I did have one, I probably wouldn't answer it. Ok, Google says my video is uploaded so I'm gonna go. Peace out and happy segmenting!!!

    I bought the wedge Pro about 6 months ago.. It is a high quality sled, repeats consistently, and I don't think I could make one for 350 dollars time and materials included. It will last my lifetime. Very happy with it to say the least.

      Thanks for weighing in. I have to agree that the wedgePro is a great value. I know a few comments say it's a bit pricey but for what you get and how long it is going to last, I think it's a great value. Thanks for weighing in! And thanks for watching!!

    I bought this Wedge pro last month. Received it in about 2 weeks. This is the best and most accurate sled I have used. I cut several 12 segment rings and then several 18 segment rings ,all was perfect. I would encourage anyone who likes segmented turning to purchase this sled.

    Do you think there'd be any significant impact if you changed sawblades? I always wonder about that when you take a store bought thing out of a box and then cut it. If the kerf changes some, do you just have to buy another replacement gadget to go with your new blade?

      Hello Jim. Changing blades isn’t really an issue after making the initial cut. The main purpose of the zero-clearance strip is to add support for the segment as it separates. If there is a little gap it shouldn’t be an issue as long as the segment is supported. I have noticed though that my experienced segmented friends are using 80 & 96 tooth blades which eliminates the splintering and provides a much cleaner cut.

      thank you for watching and thanks for the comment. I'm not sure if the Wedge Pro is being shipped overseas yet. Perhaps @mikepearson1376 can answer your question. In the mean time, perhaps you would like to send a message to Mike Pearson directly. This link will take you to the contact page on his website

      @@andrewkneidel5281no worries. It's not like I'm getting a commission or anything 😂. I have tool makers send me things from time to time and just want to let everyone know what's available. Thanks for watching!

    Equally accurate and much faster production wedges available with a much simpler and much, much less expensive pattern and just a bit of moderate skill with a table saw, screw gun and hand drill to make a basic, adjustable sled. But there's a downside: you won't get paid for posting your endorsement video.

    • @ScottsMiniWoodshop
      @ScottsMiniWoodshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Some people will like the challenge of creating their own tools. Some people don't want to bother building a custom sled and would rather buy one. Both are fine options and target different people with different interests. Kudos to you if you chose to build your own.
      Although I do accept "free" tools to evaluate, I always inform the manufacturer that sending a free sample is no guarantee of a positive review. I always give my honest opinion. Your seemingly jealous / bitter comment about me showing a bias due to getting paid for endorsing this or any product is completely inaccurate.
