The filmmakers for Dead Man's Chest deliberately left the "1s are wild" rule out to simplify the scene for audiences who'd have trouble grasping the game from the film alone. If the rule was kept, Will's bet of "eight fives" would have been safe.
i know you commented this a while ago, but since you watched the movie I had a question. So when Will upped the bet to eight fives, Davy Jones said "Welcome to the crew," meaning he knew there were only seven fives (i think?). Im not sure if I just interpreted the movie or the game wrong, but how did Davy Jones know there were only seven fives? I hope this made sense lol, and if you don't know either then dont worry about it!
We play this game quite frequently and added one more rule to make it more fun. A situation when you feel like the previous player's bet is the exact amount came up really often. When you aren't comfortable increasing nor challenging. So we added a third option, "exactly" and if the amount is the indeed the exact amount, you can take back one dice you lost previously or lose a dice otherwise.

The video is really clear but just in case there is an alternative rule... Can a player go down on amount by increasing the number? Let's say from the previous bet being "three twos" to "two sixes"?
It's not complete rules explanation. You can go down on amount only if your bet goes to wild number from usuals. For example, one said "4 sixes" and you continue the round by saying "2 ones". next opponent can choose continuation by saying "3 ones" or amount of wild x2+1. After "2 ones" legit bet will be 5 of any kind. If previous bet was "7 sixes" for example, wild number to bet next must be at least 4. Total amount must be increased at every turn, otherwise game has no sense and any round can last forever
I play the Red Dead Redemption variant. No wilds. All dice are taken at face value. AND you can call Spot Ons, so if you successfully read the table, everyone else loses a die 😁
I have a question, if for exemple there is a bet of 5 fives, can a bet get increased by lowering the number of the dice of the stated number and increasing the amount of dices like 6 fours or 7 threes?
I had the same question. In most versions I played the number on the dice usually reaches the limit of six and cannot go down. However your version makes the betting go longer and I like the variant rule you are offering, but I don’t think it is “standard”. Another variant is when a player is down to one die either ones are not wild or ones and twos are wild until that player is eliminated. This messes with the math of drunk players who take a drink every time the lose a die.
Are double bids allowed? Like lets say in a 2 player game on the table are 7 3s and 5 4s (wild 1s included), its like bid 3-4 and player 1 says 7 3s, player 2 says 4 6s, player one knows pretty sure by this point there are 7 3s, is he allowed to say that bit again?
No, because that wouldn't count as upping the bid. If the previous bid was a 7 3s, the next one would have to be either 8 3s or 7 4s. Once someone's bid includes 6s, for example 4 6s, the next bid has to be 5 6s or higher. You can't go back down in any way.
@@RabidKanid unc why shoot a video game promoting your old game in the leg. If liars bar is more popular than monopoly then liar’s dice will be too…… can you just put the fries into the bag?
You can bet on any dice face as long as the total number of dice you bet has increased, e.g. I can bet two 6s and the following player can bet three 5s. The die face they bet went down but the total number of dice bet went up. Conversely, if I bet two 5s the following player cannot bet two 4s but can bet two 6s as the dice face number went up but the total number of dice stayed the same.
you can increase either ones or both but you have to do at least one. So if i bid five 2's you would have to bid six 2's or you could do five 3's. Does that make sense?
This game was so popular when I was a kid and POTC2: DMC released. The Disney game, VMK, even had a version of it which I'd always lose. I never understood how to play it.
No, but I believe it's possible to increase the number of dice and lower the face value. (for example if the last bid was three fives the next bid can be five threes etc.) Correct me if I am wrong please.
Just curious. Are you betting like "Price is Right"? As in if you bet five 5's and there's actually six 5's on the table and someone calls you a liar, are you in the clear?
the number on the dice doesn't hold value, its betting on how many dice on that table hold the same number. you can change to what dice you believe people have more of, but you can never say lower than what was bet before if that makes sense? It's really dumb if you ask me.
Can u only increase the bet say that you say, 4 6’s, can the next person only say the same bet but at least increase one number or could you decrease it buy saying like 3 2’s instead or something
Maybe this is not the "standard" version. We drink instead of losing a dice. And the rules are also a little bit different: 1. The amount of the first bet starts with at least "players number+2", i.e., "6 what" for 4 players; 2. In the middle, when u make a bet, u can call it "straight"(or sth else, I forgot the term). It means "one" cannot be changed for the other numbers when counting the total amount. This "no-change" rule lasts until the loser in this round appears, or sometimes we cound double the amount to break this(This depends on ur rules) 3. At the beginning, we can also start with less amount than rule no.1, like four ones and five what for 4 players. Then the "no-change" rule works. 4. After ur former player make a bet, u can also give it back to him/her by plusing 2 amount. For example, ur former bets six 4s, u can turn it back by 8 what, like 8 4s. This inversion doubles the forfeits. Anyway, u just challenge that guy if u want him to drink. lol.
From what I understand, you either have to up the bet, or challenge. Upping the bet when you have a good feeling that the numbers aren't there is dangerous, because then someone can challenge you. So calling a challenge when you think it cant go higher or its unsafe to go higher is wise. Making a lower bet would obviously be pointless.
In losing a dice: If the amount challenged is 3 (2's) and there are 2 (2's) the last person to wager loses a die. If the amount challenged is 3 (2's) and there are 3 or more (2's) the person challenging loses a die
In the Pirates of Caribbean Dead Man's Chest, their version is slightly different from the video. 1st, there are no wilds, and 2nd when you lose, you don't lose 1 die and continue. You lose, and you pay up. From a gambling view, each player places units of bet beforehand and then goes around in a circle until a challenge has been called the loser of the challenge is cast out and loses access to the pot. I'm confused. You can increase the number of dice and drop the number you're betting? Like from 6 6es to 7 4s?
You can bet on any dice face as long as the total number of dice you bet has increased, e.g. I can bet two 6s and the following player can bet three 5s. The die face they bet went down but the total number of dice bet went up. Conversely, if I bet two 5s the following player cannot bet two 4s but can bet two 6s as the dice face number went up but the total number of dice stayed the same.

Anyway, u just challenge that guy if u want him to drink. lol.
oh, one more thing. When "no-change" rule begins, number one is the biggest, which means u can bet five ones if ur former bets five 6s.
So you can decrease the face but not the amount?
but what's the incentive for challenging someone if playing with a group it seems safer to not challenge anyone. or am i missing something?
From what I understand, you either have to up the bet, or challenge. Upping the bet when you have a good feeling that the numbers aren't there is dangerous, because then someone can challenge you. And yes Dead Mans Chest brought me here. I saw that movie when it first came out lol doesnt feel that long ago.
Played this game alot, as a mini game on the game Red dead redemption 1.
Game always ended in a bar brawl lol
Can you decrease the number
Wait so this means that the game stops only when someone makes a challenge
So, for example 4x4s is bigger than five 3s?
No, 4x4 would not be bigger than five 3s. A number in a bet cannot be lower than the previous bet.
Thanks!
Finally I can get the bandito outfit
