    Groomer here ! It’s okay to go with the grain or against! We do both !
    When cutting the eyes face the blade teeth towards the nose instead of towards the eyes so u don’t accidentally poke her in the eyes. 🙃 I’ll post another comments if I see anything to give more advice on ! She looks good for an inhome for sure !
    Oh! Bathing before a cut, gives u a more clean cut and keeps your blade on your clippers clean so they will cut better , and last longer !
    To trim up the top of her head you can take the longest comb attatcment and start at the back of the head and cut towards her nose

      @@doordye6503 yeah, get clippers that are meant for a dog. Maybe more specific is the breed type or hair type.

      @@doordye6503 I don't know what dog you have but wash the dog and dry it before cutting and brush/comb it well. If you have a woolie dog there are some special tools for them. Buy a clipper for dogs. I like Andis 2speed because it takes Oster blades and is more silent than Oster. The combs are also metal which is easier than plastic combs. If it is still difficult brush-cut-brush-cut brushing against the hair so you fluff it up. Oil and clean the blade during cutting and also let it cool down (using several blades makes it easier). I use a 10 ceramic and a 10 metal (came with the clipper). I think ceramic blades does not heat up as fast. Oiling the blade frequently also helps it last longer, cut better and cool down. Andis and Oster have good machines, good servise, plenty of spare parts and you can maintain and sharpen the blades. Take care of a machine like that and it will last for decades.

Her last grooming I did myself, but I’m more comfortable with the groomer doing her feet and toenails so she goes this week to the groomer, but I keep her groomed in between!! Because I only go to the Actual groomer now like every four months

    If u bathe her first its easier to cut. Dirty hair cuts differenty and dulls your blades. Just soak her eye boogies in baby wash or a doggy facial while u wash her body and scoop out with a flea comb then shave away from the eye when do shave anything sometimes the move and flinch. U did such a great job!!!!

    I'm a licensed barber/cosmetologist and have decided to groom my 6 yorkies. Idk even know how much that would cost but obviously expensive. I love seeing owners jumping in and learning to groom. It may seem intimidating, but once your dog is accustomed, it's a piece of cake! I have 2 younger ones who are WILD. A grooming harness will help tremendously with a squirmy puppy. It's really no different than cutting human kid hair. "Moving targets" 😆😆😆

    I learned how to groom our two Yorkies before COVID because my girl would come back itching for days after visits to the groomers. I built my own bracket and chain. They don’t like it but hey…they’ll learn to be at peace with it. What I find is that their hair is so fine and silky, I HAVE to go against the grain especially when cutting it short for the summer (we are in the pool every day!!!!! Yes, Yorkies that swim) Still trying to find the best technique for their legs and skirt. You did a good job. It works! And you saved a lot of money. Suggestion for the nails: I use a grinder once a week. It keeps the quick receded far enough and recedes more with each grinding. I’m so with you on the cost aspect. For us one one grooming is $45/dog and their hair grows fast, so it’d be like every 6 weeks. Um, no. I cut my husbands hair too. Innovation through necessity.

I think you do a wonderful job, you inspired me to start doing my Chorkie -Hannah, after taking her twice to 2 different groomers, only to have both ignore my directives for Hannah. When I went to pick her up, I was totally disappointed 😞!!! You also encouraged me with your grooming table, so I invested in one myself, it was the best thing, as Ms Hannah is very spoiled and would decide to lay down halfway through the grooming process, so the harness attached to the table encourages her to stay standing and of course I'm cheering her on vocally and with treats😉...and I'm also able to get her and our Beagle mix (rescue) -LadyBug, their nails taken care of.

    What a good girl! I have used that same clipper on my 13yo boy for the past three years or so. And he still will not allow me anywhere on top of his nose. We keep trying, though.

    Question about the Frontline. Once you apply it and let's say you need to wash your puppy q week after you applied it it you like to wash them once a week does the Frontline basically get washed off making it ineffective?? I've always been curious about this.

    Eevee is such a good dog! We have a yorkie puppy. She’s 11 weeks old. When would u suggest getting them used to everything. I’m washing mine in a sink, she freaks out.

    • @gottimw
      @gottimw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Get rubber mat so that they dont slip around in the sink.
      put her in sink and let her sit there, if she behaves give her a treat.
      Later on introduce water. But be careful with head. Maybe avoid it at the beginning. You dont want water to get into their ears.

    For yorkies ur actually doing just fine!! Its okay to go reverse on their coat, it takes more off! Especially since ur working with plastic comb attachments. Puppy training for grooming is the best! We only ask for at least brushing, touching of the paws and such. This is great as a fellow groomer❤️ also dont go to petsmart 🤗😂

      Give your dog a bit of CBD oil that you can get from Amazon, that is what I do for mine. My yorkie is so hyper and all he wants to do is bite the scissors and will not stand there to let me cut him without me giving him something to calm down.
      A walk will not help bc he broke his leg and he cannot walk not can he be bathe right now sadly. But a broken leg doesnt slow his hyper personality down so I am forced to give him CBD to keep him calm. Since these guys are super small, you have to make sure a small amount is given.
      My dogs are a full time job. I have 2 and both are high maintenance when it comes to grooming (Toy Poodle and a Teacup Yorkie). I learned how to groom since these two will add up if taken to a groomer monthly. I do a good job bc I learned how to groom 13 years ago with my first Yorkie so now I am a lot better at it but I also like doing it.
      So a bit of CBD to calm a hyper dog will work. Treats will not work for my dogs since they are not food oriented.
      Good luck all.

    Hey! I agree with you, I also have a Yorkshire Terrier but he is a teacup and i totally agree to buy a grooming kit, however the problem is every time we try to book him a groomer it's always fully booked until 2 months ahead. We went to a groomer in London, Westfield Shopping centre and they gave us a date for the next week, so obviously we went, we had told them we couldn't find a groomer for a proper hair cut and this was his fourth time getting groomed. They said as he hasn't been groomed that professionally before he needs a starter groom, which is nail clipping, a touch up on his feet and face WHICH WAS £70!!! I did not want to pay £70 for a starter groom just because groomers won't give me an appointment!!! To all groomers out there I understand you have limited availability but if the dog needs an urgent groomer, just do it. My dog hadn't been groomed for 7 months u till we bought our own grooming set.

    • @amystill363
      @amystill363 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually irrigate their ears in the bath with your shower controller don’t be afraid to irrigate their ear fully and rents rents rents you can use soap and water or you can use plain water the important part is after you do this during the dry use half alcohol and half peroxide mixture Poured on a cotton ball pit the cotton ball as deep as you can in the air but not to leave and then squishes around and the alcohol and peroxide will help dry up any water that you have left behind

    There are smaller detangler wire brushes ( the size of a babies brush)for her face, big ones like the one you are using are dangerous cause you can poke her eyes. I also purchase a small scissors round ends at Sallys and I use it to clip the hair around the eyes; but you have to be very careful. I love you grooming table❤️I think I am going to order one.
