    I just wanna thank you guys for uploading this video and showcasing the Luke III, as it caused me to buy one of these bad boys recently (and it's the first time I spent so much on a guitar). Simply put, I couldn't be any happier. These guitars are a thing of beauty, it's like I found my soulmate (hopefully, my wife won't read this LOL). The folks at Musicman/Ernie Ball simply know how to deliver quality work.

    Music Man does not get the recoginition and respect that they deserve. They truly are superior in quality and craftsmanship to anything I have owned. I have two Luke 2's and have owned them for about 6 years. The longest I ever kept a guitar was at best two years and have no plans ever of giving these us. The only thing I don't like about the Luke are the EMG's, I am currently in the middle of curing that problem.

    Actually, the Luke I had a Floyd Rose and only a volume pot. The one that Rob is holding, is the Luke II and the one that Capt is holding, is the Luke III ^^

      1994? A friend of mine has the original one and its just as you described it. HSS emgs and only one volume pot, painted on a nice dark blue.
      Very pretty guitar, very versatile, unfortunately my peasent hands do not make any justice, still an amazing instrument.

    My feel is that MusicMan and PRS leave Gibson and Fender in their wake. I owned an original 'Luke', traded it in and have regretted it ever since. I have my Strat, my Les Paul and PRS, but I miss the beautiful feel of the neck, the range of tones and the compactness of this guitar. This is 'the guitar' for Luke, and truthfully this is probably my ideal guitar too... I just wish I still had it.

      Music Man is the final word, from what I can tell. I have played a total of five different guitars from their range and every one had to be forcibly removed from my cold dead hands. They felt perfect, it sounded incredible. I felt like I had gotten some old school cheat codes and beaten the Guitar game. I finally bought an Albert Lee model and it cured me of the idea that I needed every guitar out there. There isn't anything that does any genre better. If you can spend the money, you're silly not to get one.

    • @trentf4891
      @trentf4891 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zac Miller I've played the luke and it had an incredible neck, narrow like I've never seen before or since. Do you know if the axis series has a similar neck profile?

    • @nathanjones4065
      @nathanjones4065 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you felt like you wanted it back you could get rid, part ex, sell the Strat and buy another one. That's what I'd do if I could be bothered that is. I've got a Valentine and it's unbelievable so, I know where you're coming from. It is better than my elite Strat. This is simply because Music Man are basically custom shop guitars and although high-end the Stratocaster can't quite reach those heights unfortunately.. They're both different guitars however, and the Strat has an S.S.S configuration. So I think I've got the best of both worlds as the 'man' has a humbucker in the neck and a telecaster style single coil in the bridge, so basically I've got a Stratocaster a Telecaster and a Gibson 335. Not bad for 4,000. I know 4 grand is expensive but I did save up for a few years.

    I play lead in a cover band, and I found that the more frequently I gig the more I needed 4 must-haves: comfort, consistently high build quality, versatility and superior tone. I had a nostalgic draw to Fenders, Gibson’s, and PRS’s until I realized the iconic guitars lacked a big part of what I needed in a 3-4 hour gig. EBMM’s Silhouette HSH w/piezo and the Reflex actually packed it all in 1 guitar, so I rarely have to switch instruments in the middle of a set. I keep my LP Standard under the bed, now, and use the EBMM’s for gigs. My Fenders and PRS never got used, so they’re gone.

    I'm loving the configuration of the new Luke 3, dual humbuckers - YUM! This is starting to resemble the old Roadstar II RS1010SL the last guitar Steve had made for him prior to moving to MusicMan. I love those old Roadstar II guitars and I've secretly coveted having a MusicMan Luke for a while.. hahaha Maybe one day. Thanks for the great review chaps.

    The original Luke, or as it is known as by the fans "Luke 1" had a Floyd type locking trem and EMG pickups.
    The Luke in your video is known as the Luke 2 as it has the non locking Ernie Ball "vintage Trem" and EMG pickups.
    The L3 is L3 due to the DiMarzio pickups and Luke thought some would not want his name on the guitar.

    So, I was watching Blood Diamond on the tv and looking this vid on my laptop. Thing is that when Solomon was about to give his speech at the end of the movie, there is an epic track going on in the back; at the same time that was happening, this vid had the Captain doing his jam with the gorgeous L3 and both movie and Captain's jam are in the same key hence the epic back track plus the Cap's jam made a one of a kind jam that reminded me of Dream Theater's Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence in the Score record....I know, useless comment but wonderful coincidence

    For anyone experiencing the "fluttering" - I've put 10s on mine, added a 3rd spring and shoved a bit of tissue behind the bridge cavity. I've read that Ernie Ball say that you don't need to include a 3rd spring, but the tremolo system is so responsive that i'd suggest giving it a go if you want to play 10s. Funnily enough - the guitar being shown in this video is probably the exact one i now own, as i picked it up from Andertons last year shortly after this vid was made.

    Although you could probably order what you'd want from EBMM, the AL with the P90s has a maple neck. The HH AL has the rose wood neck. I have both and they are two of my favorite guitars that I've played. Really well put together, that would rival any other maker. I especially love the P90 AL.

    The Luke one sported a single volume knob (no tone), an EMG 85 in the bridge, and EMG SAVs in the middle and neck. Also, it came with a Floyd Rose. The Luke II had the Music Man vintage trem, the SLVs in the middle and neck, and the added tone knob of course...

  • @PaulSter
    @PaulSter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've got a Luke Iii in, what I prefer, HSS. I've also got a Silhouette Special (again HSS).
    Anyway, I got the all rosewood neck. I 100% agree with Chappers on the "gateway drug" analogy. The necks are just so fine, and I've got so many other guitars that I'm afraid I won't touch them, or lose my ability to play them as well. Especially some of my favorite Strats and my beloved new Les Paul (which is because I think they're back to making excellent guitars again under their new leadership).
    I'm also a short guy and frankly, the EBMMs fit me better. I grab one of them after being used to my other guitars, and it's as though my playing instantly improves like 20%. Seriously.
    So funny, because these guys are saying the same thing. There's some kind of voodoo magic in these guitars and especially the necks that make you play better.
    The quality is VERY definitely a big step up from Fender. I would have easy included Gibson back when this vid came out, but as I said above, I think they're back and in good hands now.

    Music Man was started in 1972 by Forrest White, Tom Walker formerly of Fender and Leo Fender as a silent partner as he was still bound by a non-competition clause when he sold Fender to CBS. Ernie Ball bought the company in 1984 according to one of Tony Bacon's books.

    There's a few reasons - the first is that if they use an patented "Original Floyd Rose" Trem they have to pay royalties for each equipped guitar sold. The second is that some companies feel that their version of the Double-Locking Trem, notably the Ibanez Edge & Lo-Pro Edge models, are actually BETTER than the standard Floyd Rose.

    MusicMan has been building guitars for quite a while now. While they look nice, stay in tune, the tuners line up, the necks are to thin at the nut. I don't know why they do not offer them with a wider neck as well, such as 1 3/4", 1 7/8" or 2". What do you think of the Big Lou Guitars 2" wide at nut guitar necks for six string electrics ?

    Also, more specifically: I have had an eclectic GAS streak for awhile now and I thought I'd have to go custom. But Albert Lee came out with a 3 P90, solid rosewood, non mahogany body guitar. Would you guys please do that one?

    It is called Canon. It was on Robs first EP ever released called "Red Dream". I REALLY wish i could download the original Red Dream EP myself (Along with the EP At Arms Reach) but Rob hasn't had it up for a few years now. If you buy the backing tracks album thing on his webstore Robchapman(Dot)TV/Store/ there is a backing track version of it. But that is the only thing I know how to get it.

    Guys, you're holding a Luke 2! The Luke 1 had a floating Floyd and volume control only. Only came in red and blue IIRC.
