Shinkenger was a modern take on the whole feudal lord and his vassal servants concepts. That's why the others were bowing to Takeru (Shinken Red) in the opening. That series was probably the most Japanese flavored entry in the series. The visors are also stylized takes on kanji. Red is fire. Blue is water. Greeen is trees. Yellow is Earth or the ground. Pink is skies. Gold is light.

Choujin Sentai Jetman's theme song was sung by Mr. Dragon Ball himself. Hironobu Kageyama. The writer for Zyuranger to Ohranger was also Noboru Sugimura. The man behind Resident Evil 2 and the Dino Crisis sequels.
He also sang Changeman and Maskman openings

Fun fact: The theme songs for Liveman and Turboranger are sung by the actors who played the Red for those two seasons. And Turboranger's Red also sang Zyuranger's theme.

I’m glad that you asked about the HD quality. They started producing in HD in 2006 for Boukenger, the Adventurer-themed Sentai.
Also, the cast started to get younger because the time slots for Sentai started to change in the late 90s and moms were watching with their kids as well. That’s how some cast members became very popular.

@@Loguemaster123 He was just a body double in Shinkenger. They weren’t related in anyway until the real leader decided to adopt him as her son so he can be the true leader when she saw how loyal the retainers are to him.

@@Loguemaster123you can't just take the revealed truth near the end of the series to reason the "context" when it began. He wasn't the real heir, yes, but he ACTs as the real one so the retainers obviously have to respect him.
It's funny how American adaptations work for Power Rangers.
If the themes seem too "Japanese" and be lost by American audiences by some of the themes and differences in culture, they change the Sentai story drastically.
For instance, Zyuranger is a fantasy series about warriors from an ancient civilization waking up in modern day to save children from a witch, and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers is about teenagers in high school fighting a witch
That's because the plot of the first Power Rangers season is based on Biomam which Saban wanted to adapt in the 80s, rather than Zyuranger which it takes footage from.
The first episodes are almost identical, including pink saying she wants out of the team at the end. That's also why Yellow is a girl despite being a boy in Zyuranger: in Bioman she was a girl.

19:52 Ah yeah. When Haim Saban visited Japan and saw Choudenshi Bioman, he was going to make an American adaptation of the season as "Bio-Man". A pilot was made but the adaptation got rejected from being broadcasted. The names of the characters were then used for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when MMPR Season 1 adapted Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger with some slight name changes to the characters.

I watched Bioman. Assuming Alpha was going to be the same robot which was named Peebo in the Sentai, we could have been in for some Caillou-level tantrums.
The reason Battle Fever J's helmets look so weird, is because the show was originally supposed to be a sequel to Spider-Man, based on Captain America. When they reworked it into a Super Sentai show, they had the suits homage American style superheroes. Incidentally, the show originally being a sequel to Spider-Man is the entire reason Super Sentai/Power Rangers has giant robots.

1:20:45 Akiba ranger, their tagline is that they are the Official UNoffical sentai group. Basically they are sentai otaku getting the chance to become rangers. It's REALLY meta, especially for those who know a lot about sentai in general with tons of references and in jokes.
They're the Deadpools of Super Sentai. Their inside jokes are pretty hilarious, especially the one where they acknowledged Super Sentai's US counterparts that is Power Rangers (named as Powerful Rangers in the series lol)

It's one of the most interesting team dynamics in Super Sentai and is one of the MANY reasons Shikenger is probably my FAVORITE super sentai. It's the first Sentai I watched in FULL and was INFINITELY better than the power rangers version (I mean PR basically showed the eps out of chronological order?)
Here in Brazil we had some Sentai series in the 80's, before Power Rangers, like Changeman, Flashman, Maskman, and others. We also had on TV Kamen Rider and some Space Sheriff series. It was awkward when Power Rangers came in, but we enjoyed too. As in Brazil there are many, many japanese migrants, they brought to Brazil japanese series often. It was a huge success. In Europe it was common too. They had series like Bioman on TV, and I think it was popular on France.
Toqer (The train one) Is actually one of my favorites. Especially love one of the main concepts. The rangers are called by number not color, because they have a tendency of switching colors, and main weapons, almost once an episode. Its actually kinda cool.
"Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters" has the same broadcast period as the other series, but has two completely different opening music.
At 1:21:53 when u mentioned about challenging patriarchy, u'd be surprised at how early Super Sentai challenged patriarchy by having a female leader in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger( at 37:31 ) where in the plot, altho red is the first to be introduced in the montage, white female (NinjaWhite) was the official leader of the group. Where as for the next non male leader was from Mirai Sentai TimeRanger ( at 49:40 ) with Time Pink and then Geki Yellow from Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger ( at 1:07:34 ) . And momentarily a female red during Samurai Sentai Shinkenger ( at 1:12:00 ).

Actually for Dynaman, not all of them had "DR" on their helmets, only DynaRed.
DynaBlack and DynaBlue had "DB"

True fun fact: Dynaman is the ONLY Sentai series to get 8 episodes dubbed..thats right dubbed for the USA late night network. So Dynaman is the "first" power rangers.

One of the cool parts about the Lupinranger VS. Patoranger theme is that the full thing is a duet, but if you isolate the vocals to just one of the singers, you get the "theme" of one of the two teams.

Each has their own solo theme song, the Lupinranger is a bit jazzy and the Patranger has techno bit. I know, it's a really brilliant concept.
I scrolled a fair bit to see if it's been mentioned and didn't see anything lol
MMPR used Zyuranger, Dairanger, and Kakuranger footage but kept the Zyuuranger suits because they thought kids would be confused by the same characters suddenly changing fighting styles. It wasn't until Ohranger (adapted into Zeo) that they finally let the main team change suits. (And the Kakuranger suits were used for the Alien Rangers)
With Kiramager the simplicity was really part of the charm, its my favourite sentai and how cleverly it used its simplicity is kinda amazing considering most of the season was made during the first covid wave
Lupinranger VS Patranger is an interesting concept, actually. We have two teams right from the start, with Thief versus Police setup, and the sixth ranger has both Thief form and Police form for his transformation. Definitely one of my favorite, regardless of the final reception of the series.

My guess for why the rangers seem to get younger over time is to relate to a young audience. Didn't want OLD men so much as just grown boys. They even tried: ...the white ranger in Diarainger (our Mighty Morphing white) was an actual kid, not even a teen, who grew into his suit when he morphed and later we would have the blue Turbo Ranger who did the same.
Both the Lupinrangers and Patorangers are good guys. But both teams always fight each other because the Lupinrangers are thieves while the Patorangers are obviously the police. Cops vs Robbers. Make sense right?
Technically, while the Lupinrangers are thieves, the Patrangers have nothing to arrest or charge them with, as the Lupinrangers only stole from Ganglers and nobody else.

You forgot Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, which was just completed this week. The next Super Sentai season Avataro Sentai Donbrothers is coming out this week and I'm curiously interested in it. Its opening theme recently came out.

@@mattm9204 So the 2nd episode came out and basically, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers is based/themed on the Japanese folklore legend of Momotarō with a mix of Virtual Reality theming. It is also kind of a direct sequel to Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger but in an alternate world after the events of Zenkaiger and continues doing Super Sentai legacy stuff that Zenkaiger did.

So interesting fact about Dairanger: the design for Master Org's human form in Wild Force is based on the villain of Dairanger.
The dog thing you mentioned, they did something similar to that in Kamen Rider W. One of the villains of that series was an actual house cat that transformed into a monster.

Dairanger & Kakuranger opening will be stuck in our head for a long time if you heard it for the first time
First of all I liked how they tried to make the animal zords look like they were alive on Gaoranger. Some of my other favorites were Kyoryuger because of the diversity of the team. (Green was in high school, Pink was a rich girl in college, and Blue was 30 years old.) Gokaiger because the Pirates still pay tribute to the others teams. Also Lupinranger vs. Patrenranger because the 3-way battle of thieves, cops, and monster gangsters kept it interesting.
The openings do change frequently during the season. Sometimes actors are replaced, or new members join. In the case of JAQK, the show wasn't doing well with the original four members and added The Big One, who became the new leader.
Big One certainly added a solid dose of positive energy to the series, and how he always seemed to be two steps ahead of the bad guys made him really awesome
Oh, did you know, Battle Fever J, the third sentai series I think, they are part of Marvel's Universe, back then they had some deal with Marvel, around that time it was also when Spiderman (The Japanese Series) was been broadcasting
To add onto this, they couldn’t use any footage of Battle Fever, Denjiman, and Sun Vulcan in PR because they’re partially owned by Marvel.
GOGO V It's amazing, soundtrack, robots and theme.
There are five brothers who are firefighter, policeman, doctor, etc, each of them are heroes before the series even starts.
GOGOV's theme was inspired by the problems Japan had with earthquakes and other natural problems at the beginning of the decade.
The opening lyrics mean: "Saving a Live is saving the future, go further, GOGOV"
Ps: The singer of Goseiger and Boukenger is the same of Pegasus Fantasy Saint Seiya
And Gekiranger is the same singer of One Vision, of Digimon Tamers

Awesome reaction! Though, you forgot about Zenkaiger (the most recent season). Before you react to that one though, might wanna wait a week or 2 so that the Donbrothers opening drops, since that's gonna be the latest season. And there's also The High School Heroes, a sentai spinoff similar to Akibaranger, but this time it's a drama instead of a comedy, though it doesn't have an opening just an ending theme.
Slightly unrelated fun fact, the narrator in the Kiramager opening is the same voice actor as Gintoki from Gintama, and the guy with the glasses is the Pen Pineapple Apple Pen guy.
In Japan they will find opportunities to use english words in media or advertisements any time they think it will sound cool to do so. Even if they already have a Japanese word for it.

As you already said PR is the adaptation of Super Sentai, though in terms of production both Sentai footage and costumes are licensed out for the making of PR after the respective series has finished airing in Japan. Though as you probably noticed from MM, Jyuranger-Kakuranger were amalgamated for its seasons, mostly taking the mecha from Dairanger and Kakuranger, with MM White being Kibaranger from Dairanger.

One thing I like about both Super Sentai and Power Rangers is how different they could be and I love them both for it. Take Rita vs. Bandora for example, Rita wanted to take the Earth for personal gain and is much funnier and a joy to see goof off. Rita is so iconic she is still remembered fondly and featured as a villain in other PR works. Bandora is a grieving mom wanting revenge on the dinosaur gods for killing her son and forms a pact with Satan, much more nuanced and terrifying and in my opinion interesting but with much less of the lovable comedy aspect and traits that make her as huge of an icon.

You mentioned the designs of ToQGer @ 1:32:30, during the show, they actually change "lines", and in doing so change color and weapons, like the Red Ranger, No1, would swap with the Blue Ranger, No2, and swap colors and weapons with him, so the Red Ranger would be using the Blue Rangers Gun and blue outfit, while the Blue Ranger would get the Red Rangers sword and Red Outfit. It is used for cool effect where they are swapping around colors and weapons during fights, and the simplicity of the outfits really lets that gimmick shine imo
But remember the transferring ended up being one of the most important gimmicks in the season
Especially when saving stations that have been entirely consumed by the Shadow Line

Lupinranger Vs Pataranger actually has a duet with two different theme songs that mash together. It is one of my favorites

Bioman and Jetman are the best openings, the graphics and animations look pretty cool even today in compare with other seasons. Songs make a feeling that you watch something special and spectacular, the way how characters are introducted gives you an understanding of their temperaments.
I also love the first two songs, sang by Isao Sasaki (they're too different from others and rememberable). Denziman is fine (the 4th season), Changeman is incendiary, I also enjoyed Turboranger (interesting fact, it was sang by Kenta Satyo, who also played Red Ranger in this season).
From our age, I think, Hurricanger, Abaranger and Magiranger are great songs . Sadly, creators used too much CGI instead of practical effects, and may be the budget wasn't enough to make it on a good level (instead of Magiranger)

Gorenger, the very first season of Super Sentai lasted 84 episodes. It started in '75 but ended in '77.
JAKQ only lasted about half a year with 35 episodes.
After that though, there was a new 50-ish episode season each year.
Also, the 2 Go-Busters openings are for the same singular season. I believe the reason why there was a 2nd opening was that they wanted to boost sales for that season since it wasn't doing as well as other seasons prior had been doing.
I at first really disliked Timeranger too. But after listening to it all over again, I'm totally in love with it!

In Super Sentai Jakq, each one of them represents a playing card, the rainbow guy represents the joker card in the deck, he is the creator of the team, he only joins the team later, until then, the one who leads in the fights is the red one.

This whole time I had no clue that the lupanranger theme was from sentai. I only heard it while playing taiko no tatsujin on switch and just thought it was a cool song from an anime I didn't know

So, not sure if you followed up on looking up the synopsis of Akibaranger. I looked back in the comments a bit to see if anyone had mentioned it, but I didn't see anything, so sorry if I am repeating something that has already been said.
But, yeah. Akibaranger was not an official Sentai season. It was produced by Toei, like the rest. But it was an adult, kind of perverted show. And you pretty much nailed the synopsis as you were guessing. Three otaku, Red specifically being a Sentai otaku, get to become Sentai themselves. There is even references to American Power Rangers, or "Powerful Rangers" as they call them for copyright reason. Jason and Tommy (not ASJ and JDF, which would have been cool) show up for the episode instead of Geki and Burai, the white neck guards and belts are replaced with an American flag motif. It's pretty fun, I definitely recommend it. The anime girl is a show in universe, and works as their morpher and weapon set.

Shinkenger was released around the time Power Ranger live action series was on hiatus after Disney pulled the plug by the end of Power Rangers RPM
Go-Busters didn't have a 2nd season. They just had a 2nd opening to add the silver and gold ranger to it
i agree with how the special effects kinda stayed the same as everything else started to get better. it's like they stopped caring about them.
this is just a suggestion but maybe you could watch ultraman (especially the more recent series) since they work with both special and practical effects and i think they do both very well.
I am a year late, but if you are watching this a year later too the akibaranger anime girl was their morpher and as for the lead always being male you could say that shinkenger did something different since they had the red shinkenger as a girl later on. Also the extra sentais are made to stand out as special rangers that are not exactly part of the main theme so their designs will always look really cool.
To answer your question about the HD: Boukenger (The adventurer one) was the first one filmed in widescreen, but Sentai didn't go HD until Shinkenger (The Samurai one)

The reason for the emblems on the helmets of Fiveman that you found so odd is because they are all elementary teachers and the emblems are the subject they teach. Music note is of course the music teacher.
They've also done 10 years after movies for Hurricanger, Dekaranger, Go-Onger and Gokaiger.

Also, the blue ranger in Kyuranger has the same VA as Zoro, the black one is Blackbeard, and the purple one is Law.

All members in Kyuranger are not from Earth (accept Cyan). They are resistant force from every stars that got invander before series start. Together they tried to protect Earth and use it like the last line of defend again big bad force of evil. Cyan is the only represent for Earth residents.
Timeranger op is by far my favorite. Still the only female exclusive sung op theme too (first as well) as all others with a female singer were duets. A pity you didn't like it much.
On Shinkenger, you are technically right. They are equals but the others shinkengers didn’t know that. Takeru is a kagemusha for the real shinkenred. He later,close to the very end of the series, does become the real head of the Shiba clan when the real shinkenred adopts him after she gets injured in battle and couldn’t continue fighting.

Lupinranger and Patranger season are kinda unique since it's 3 way battle till near final. It's based on Cop and Robber after all so both teams can't really get along

1:43:44 it was a tv special that saw random team members grouped together for a huge tournament, and it was also meant as the introduction of the Sentai team that was to follow

The Red Ranger for the Jungle Fury equivalent was actually raised by a tiger and she has a habit of behaving like a baby even though he's a young adult because his tiger mom kind of spoiled him with all the good food from her husband so he's kind of a mama's boy
Zyuohger, you were trying to figure out why they said elephant... They said all the animal names in English, bro. Eagle, Shark, Lion, Elephant, Tiger. But you got so fixated on the elephant that you didn't notice the others I guess.
And Lupinranger vs Patrolranger (LuPat) is basically a cops and robbers rangers, yeah. It's pretty cool, and I would love to see them adapt that into a modernized Power Rangers: Hexagon. But I don't think it will happen.
Akibaranger is an unofficial sentai. It was made as a joke so it doesn’t count as an actual sentai lol. And no it didn’t get 2 whole years for itself, the show was very short

The thing about Goranger is, the _ending_ is better known than the opening, to the point that compilation games use that instead. Same for Ohranger, sorta - but there it's the image song Niji-iro Crystal Sky.
(And _what the hell_ is that Liveman opening? That's the TV version of the song, but someone went and redid the visuals.)
If you're going to watch a Sentai series, start to finish, I suggest Kakuranger. It has aspects that make it really accessible for non-Japanese viewers. For movies, start with Gaoranger Vs. Super Sentai; it's less a movie and more of a clip show to remind viewers just _how_ awesome the franchise can be (and is available on TH-cam I think?).

"HiKouninn Sentai Akibaranger" means "Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger".
It is an Official-Parody work by Toei Studio itself, so it has not been added to the "Super Sentai Series"!
It was broadcast on different stations at the same time as Go-Busters and Kyoryuger.
