The trade-off is that when you hold it in the corner, it is very hard to fit your whole hand comfortably. Some throwers pull a finger out. Or even two. But as you do this your grip gets weaker and the weight tends to leave a little earlier thus missing the final application of force. So the two effects offset each other for many.
My youngest son, currently 14, has a 103 average in school. He is a multi-time USATF age group national champion in the shot put. But, with his grades, he'll probably end up at an Ivy-league-ish school. So, I'm teaching him the hammer and weight, starting today.
Ooo, smooth. I threw 16,34 earlier this year, struggeling with the damn heavy weight! xD Only 19 though. Crazy seeing Connor going that far, yet he's only 21.
That last guy really had all neurons firing, he released it at the optimal time and showed up the bigger guys. Kick ASS!
that’s Conor McCullough for you
Go PU! This bring back lots of memories. I threw at Cornell once, they had a great facility with a very fast circle!
this venue is awesome
i love how connor just made the entire competition look soft haha
"Conor," actually.
@@GMPage-ru5io I realized this mistake about 6 years ago haha but thank you for reassuring me 6 years later 😂👍🏾
that's a great throw. I threw 18-mid last year, thinking of applying to an ivy league school for an MBA and have one year of eligibilty left.

Awesome work. Thanks for sharing!
Increases the circumference of the circle it is traveling -- thus the velocity and distance.
I haven't thrown the weight much, but I was wondering about the grip. What does holding it close the end do?
definitely gonna try that!
still wonder why he didn't just show up to nationals that year, win, and go back to hammer training
Academic difficulties was what I heard.
Holy shit. That last guy destroyed.
im not trying to mock him im just saying it actually is unfortunate that he wont be competing anymore for the ivy's, and are you a thrower at cornell?
thanks for sharing
Is the women's event posted anywhere?
Cornell's pit is so slippery.
increases the radius
Hey, that first thrower was Duncan Dickerson right?
75 feet 3 1/6 inch or 22,94m
what is the weight
why does connor grip the weight like that, anybody see it
Increases the radius of the ball. Moves it farther away from the center of gravity increasing the velocity and radius thus the distance.
It's a hammer throw grip, three fingers for some people is more comfortable and allows for a better/faster release
what was the winning distance?
i though this was shot put. then i realized this is hammer throw ^^
Wrong twice its weight throw
what do you mean ?
im an 8th grader and ive been throwing the 25lbs weight for 2 days and throw 35 feet. is that good?
+Jackson Gibbon thats pretty good. i didnt start until sophomore year, but i finished off the season at about 56'
thats good, I'm a freshmen, my best is about 44.5
Yes
World athletics needs to sanction the weight throw
35lbs
Is that in Ithaca?
Yes.
ya its to bad that he got kicked out of school
for what?
if you mean their ring, nah its not
35lbs or 15,876kg
15,876kg would be 35,000lb!
A European using the comma as a decimal--which they usually do...
