    Glad to see you guys still going strong, despite the social issues still out there. Marriage is tough enough without the added tensions of prejudice. Despite the outwardly niceness of Asian community, especially Indian ppl to others, we still have a long way to go from the instilled cast and color system in our history, some by our own and the white skin tone by the British colonialism. Much love from USA

    This is interesting. I'm from Uganda and we have quite a sizable Indian population (even our food is very similar with a lot of overlapping ) and Indian man Black woman couple are quite common. A lot of the women in my family are married to Indian men, but I guess when your from a predominantly black country it's different.

    Congrats Amit and Michelle.
    Wishing you all the best for future from IT city of Bangalore.
    Many things prevent mixed race marriages, Religion,Culture,Food habits like vegetarianism,society approval, fear about stability of marriage etc if one is deeply conditioned and entertains fear all the time.
    Indian parents are deeply attached and identified generally with their off springs and community.
    But if you go deep down study of Hindu religion there is no bar of any kind at all for marriage between man and woman.
    It even permitted a system called Gandharva Vivaha or Gandharva marriage ceremony where a man and woman can decide to marry without anybody being present, without any rules whatsoever calling Sun or moon or stars as the witness depending on the time of the marriage.
    More to it if I can meet both of you personally.You are welcome to be my Guests in Bangalore

    I have been a long time supporter of you both and racism in non black communities is a big problem that needs to be talked about. But I feel like this piece has just given the BBC and white people a scapegoat on their racism. They can now say "it's not just us that's racist" even though their racism brings about systematic oppression.

    • @easyware
      @easyware 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Sorry, but your comment is just plain wrong. If you truly have honourable intentions then you will be more concerned about ending racism in all it's forms rather than concern yourself with what some White person might or might not think. And, by the way, as a UK Black man who has also travelled extensively in India I can say - confidently - that South Asians are much more racist against Black people than White people are. It just so happens that there is a lot more interaction and history between Black and White people so Black/White racism issues are more prevalent.

    • @AmitMichellePatel
      @AmitMichellePatel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for the comment, the truth is racism is not only a White VS Black issue. We need to end all forms of racism, the Asian community cannot sit on the sidelines and ignore the BLM movement by saying “Its a white VS black issue”. Hence why I am led to speak on these matters. As per the mantra of our clothing brand - if we are ALL equal then the problem’s solved.

    Indians don't like interracial, interregional, interreligious and intercaste marriages. It is not only because of skin colour, everyone would react in the same manner if a girl or a boy married a European or a south east Asians.
    The prejudices occur because the Indians believe that there would be adjustment issues in the marriage because in India it is (was)very important to have a good relationship with other family members, woman plays a pivotal role in family affairs. But with nuclear families things are changing.
