A good video dealing with a topic that is rarely dealt with. The series Alone is an interesting example of what you talk about, where some excellent survivalists often tap out early because they can't handle the loneliness. I have found great worth in praying during times of stress, so great to see you highlighting the bible in your videos.

Yes! Great example thanks for adding that here. Horace Kephart is also an interesting study, being the opposite of what you mention about the 'Alone' folks who leave early. Shows how people who have different backgrounds and circumstances deal differently. I agree on prayer for sure. C

I’ve found a lot of participants start out talking about how much they love their family and how much the money will help them. Makes sense. Until it gets too difficult and their main reason for leaving IS their family.
Missing their kids or being injured in a way that they worry about being able to provide for them in the future.
I’d never even attempt anything like Alone, but if I did, my heart would ache for no one.

I’ve spent a large part of my adult life alone in the woods. Separated from family for extended periods of time . Doing jobs that any mistake could end my life instantly . I never took pictures of my family with me. I made myself stay focused on my job. And off work during down time, stayed in the moment of where I was and what needed to be done . Adjust to changes on the fly. And stay creative with your thought process in problem solving. But most of all, enjoy the little things. Be content, and at peace with yourself .

Good morning Clarice. Your topic this morning if perfect. Here in the US we have had two massively destructive hurricanes back to back. Four states have been subjected to horrific destruction. People, if they are still alive, went from being happy to having nothing or very little in a matter of just a few hours. How do you prepare for such an event? Sadly most people have no clue what to do or what to get so when things go sideways they are reasonably prepared. It's not what you have physically on hand that will keep you alive. Its what you know and your belief system that determine if you will live or die. Reminding yourself to keep hopeful and remember the skill sets you can rely on until someone can find you and evacuate your out or at least provide you with supplies. I remember a saying we have here. When you are up to your armpits in alligators, it's hard to remind yourself you are there to drain the swamp. Being prepared is not just hoarding food and ammo. The ultimate Prepper is prepared Spiritually, Mentally and Physically. I live in North Carolina, I live a few hours away from the destruction that happened. The weather is changing here and getting colder. I am actually considering buying and loading up with needed supplies to drive up and deliver those supplies to people who are in need. Please keep me in your prayers that God will guide me in what and how to go about this. May God continue to watch over you, your family and friends. Keeping you safe and healthy.

So many people has lost their lives and everything They worked and live for...their livestock, their pets, their loved ones. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for What You guy's Do for each other. @@RockyDempers Politicians all around the world must all be exactly alike. They show up, do a photo op (so they can say they were there) then point out to the rest of the people how much good they are doing without actually doing anything. People all around the world must have compassion and empathy towards each other. They have to be ready to stop what they are doing to help their neighbor because at some point they will need help themselves. The people, fellow Americans, are the real hero's in everything that is happening here. People from all across America are here or trying to come here to help. Rocky, you sound like a really good person, even though we may never meet I encourage you to prepare for that day when you can help others. I also pray that God will watch over you, your family and friends. Remember for every situation we get into, God will provide you with a way to get out of it. You may be the exact person who will be in the right place, the right time to help someone in need. There is a motto I learned when I was in the USAF that I try to live by ever since and now I share it with you. That Others May Live.

Disaster really tests the mentality of those in it, but we shouldn't underestimate what goes through the minds of those in the surrounding areas, 'it could have been me', 'it might be me next time' and 'that was me last time' all have an impact on us. Hey Clarise! Good point you made! For me there are loneliness and solitude. Sometimes you need to be alone to get your mind straight. Even Jesus had His moments of solitude for praying and connecting to God. But when everything goes south we need to remember of what the Lord says in Isaiah 41:10.
    God bless you!

Hi Clarise and greetings from the USA. Thank you for another great video. I agree the topic is little covered and this may be the first time I’ve seen someone discuss stress and loneliness in relation to the wild. I think your approach of first realizing they can/will happen at some point and thus prepare for those emotions to come, is spot on. Much like preparing for an adventure by packing tools for fire, shelter, food and water. Finally, welcome Hunter! I am looking forward to seeing him grow and join in your adventures.

I live in the US, the people I meet here I think actually are in one of two categories. 1) A smart person will change their view if new information contradicts their belief. 2) An indoctrinated person lacks this ability. They are conditioned to dismiss facts. The US is being torn apart by the action of these two groups working against each other. It may be the same in other countries?

Thank you so much for posting this video. This is excellent counsel and advice, however, I strangely found it more applicable to my everyday life. I’ve lived in some austere places(Afghanistan for one) and have seen a lot of pain in my life and those I’ve loved, particularly very recently. It was your book recommendation of “Where is God When It Hurts” that really touched me. I think it will finally give me some answers to questions I’ve had for years now due to my life. I know this is a video about surviving in the bush, but for some of us the real world is harder. I say all this to say you had a bigger impact than the scope of the video. And I think that’s a good thing. It has been good for me at least. I just wanted to express some gratitude to you for it.

Yes keeping busy when your by yourself is important. I like how you discussed the different levels of loneliness.
If someone knows it’s only for a few hours or a few days then it’s not hard to keep busy and wait it out. In Canada if you are stuck in the snow and the temperatures are extremely low, just stay put. If you don’t have the tools or shelter to survive then you may have no choice but to walk out. I try to tell friends and family to keep a supply of items on there vehicle just in case. The biggest thing is communication. In the cold your phone battery will die quickly . Have a way to charge your phone. A way of making fire and a knife will e life so much better. Knowledge is east to carry so learn how to survive where you live. Great topic Clarise, I always enjoy watching your videos.

Mentality is very important to survival or coping with loneliness or stress. I have two "go to" techniques depending on the situation. Firstly, dealing with loneliness. I was taught to learn a poem off by heart. It has to be a poem that means something to you. Mine is daffodils. If you find yourself lonely or just stuck in poor weather, then recite your poem. Mentally it can take your mind somewhere else. It also serves another purpose. If you take a fall and hit your head, recite your poem. If you cannot remember it, then you have self-diagnosed that you probably have concussion. The second tip is humor. Having a "group clown" is a preference in forces groups because they can make a bad situation tolerable. As an example, I once took a long, steep, rolling fall but I didn't hit my head, I just knew I was going to hurt once it stopped. My reaction once I had come to a stop was to say out loud, "are we there yet?" I hope this helps.

    • @robertedwards7749
      @robertedwards7749 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes, we are different in many ways. We start with the same basics but approach and handle the same situation differently. Clarice isn't trying to make us the same. She is pointing out the basics that effect us all. She is offering us a starting point to work from. For example, we all get hungry, A woman may fix a salad while a guy will grill a steak. That is not to say a guy can't have a salad or a woman can't have a steak. Our approach to solving a need or a want can be the same or very different. That difference isn't just being a man or a woman, it is based on how we are raised, what we are taught and believe in, who influenced us growing up as kids or adults and conditions we have already lived through.

People who get stressed in the wilderness are mostly newbies who don’t know about how nature really is. Loneliness will always be a feeling for those who are not comfortable yet with themselves in the wilderness. After you get comfortable and have actually logged some time the feeling will be much less but it varies from person to person.

I see a lot of too-cool-for-school comments. Truth is the psychological battle can kill you. I used to go out and get myself stranded on purpose. My first practice was a pronounced sit back and relax response. I spent my first moments evaluating my situation. I also went into a sub-hibernation conserve energy mode.

Pretty amazing, you're one of few people who deliberately takes the time to evaluate their situation and get your mentality right. Probably why the subject doesn't scare you into self-defense. C

A lot of the stress coming from adversity is due to never having experienced adversity, not knowing what you are capable of doing. In the current era, many simply have never lived life without the technological devices and every day conveniences we enjoy. Naturally, finding yourself without them is stressful.
Do yourselves a favor, take a day to experience life in the outdoors, without all of the gadgets and devices that you take for granted. Take it upon yourselves to deal with a disruption in your ordinary circumstances. Better that you learn to cope with this of your own volition than to be thrown into it unknowingly.

Simple, just be a man haha. Kidding aside, don't know I've ever been stressed in wilderness. Most of my free time is spent outdoors in some pretty rugged places from Mexico to Alaska. Probably hardest is the heat in the desert though. Was carrying gear down from a climb a couple months ago, got attacked by bees, ran out of water, and got hit by a heat wave. I lost 10 lbs that morning between that; climbing and carrying all the gear. Was glad to get back at camp. I do find these catchy titles a bit odd though but I guess you have to get hits somehow. Probably less stressed in wilderness getting attacked by bees then a day at the office.
