The movie made me realize how much important was Mai to Sakuta. Yes he loved her a lot, they both helped each other a lot, they were cute and stuff like that. But when it came to importance it always felt like Shoko has been more important to Sakuta than Mai. This is well represented when after Kaede gets her memory back, Sakuta is helped by shoko once again and Mai feels bad for not being the one to help him during that time. Considering all of this it has even a bigger impact when she sacrifice herself for him. It's only when he cracks after her death that you realize how important she was to him. This applies toreal life too. People are important to you even when they do nothing "spectacular" for you, but even when they are just with, when they are willing to put you as one of the most important thing of their life even though they don't show it with big actions. Luckily it has an happy ending, I don't think I would have recovered esily from her death
@@Free.7fx long story short mei (the gf of the protagonist) sacrifices herself so that he doesn't die. But he manages to go back in time and avoid her sacrifice. At that point (if I understood correctly) he manages to go back in time again where everything goes exactly how it went before but with the difference that he never met Shoko (there he wouldn't feel the need to die for her). Everyone before watching this anime probably used to think it was, just a normal shitty small harem anime.
