    I have the rounded, less desirable version😢 It's going well and I have a lifetime Timpsons battery card. You did a great job. The red hand is the only red there. As it's broken, the hand from the other mechanism would go with the yellow display. It looks great 👏

    Hello again.Moises from Spain.As always,I am learning a lot about watches world with your channel. Very impressed the way you make all kind of works. Always I have a chance, I buy a cheap lot of watch movements in order to pracrise,to learn about fails,servicing,find the fails, cleaning...etc. Now I have been able to buy a cheap citizen ana digi vey similar to the one on this video. I,ve tried to find what kind of fail it has. Install a new fresh battery,but lcd and mechanical watches ( time and seconds hand watch) both of them are dead.I,ve dissasembly it for at least three times.Check corrosion ( there was a few blue in some places but not a lot ). Check contacts,check free spin of both hands sets...but impossible.It continues dead. May be possible you to give me an idea about what the problem is? I think ther is no electric power on motherboard because watch is clean, and almost new except a few scratches on the case. Thanks in advance and again,excuse my really poor english.

      First check coils for continuity. Remember the copper wire is just one piece so any break and it’s bad.
      Next check the tracks on the board for breaks. Last could be capacitor but I don’t know how to test these unless you have a manual to know what they could measure.

      @@MyRetroWatches Years ago I came across a Polish guy on a website who programmed the chip in a way that it could show the year in 2020 plus. Not sure how he did it.I was able to 'repair' the first one you had, I paid for the case and bracelet which were in excellent condition, the inner work was unfortunately not working had water damage. I bought a few weeks ago one that had the inner working in mint condition and swapped it to the good exterior. I had a scary moment when it turned out the battery wasn't the correct used in the watch. I was a pain in the back to have the battery back in, and then the scare display numbers looked chopped. Fortunately it works fine now. Only downside is that the analog background part is golden and not grey, How do I remove the back plate of analog and the hands without destroying the watch? I really enjoyed your video I got mine in 1984 , my late mom bought it for my 18th birthday was an expensive watch in those days.

    I recently bought exactly this watch because i think it looks awesome. It doesn't work and upon inspection it seems like it at some point had a battery leak inside of it. There are some blue "gunk" on the electronics and some discoloration here and there. When inserting a battery it doesn't fire up. Do you have any advice on how to fix it? I have some basic knowledge on electronics however i haven't worked on such small electronics before.

    Hi Michael, since a few days I am working on my Grandpas 8982 trying to restore it as best as i can as its pretty ravaged. I am managing everything pretty well, except the buttons. They tend to slip under the little metal lashes on the board and get stuck - the only way to fix that is to wiggle them out by opening the watch. Also one of the buttons seems to have lost whatever is holding it and is falling out. The board itself is a mess too, with hot glue (!) in there and bent metal. Do you think there is a way to fix this without buying a new case or board or everything? It was his most precious piece as it stood for the best time in his life, even after he bought it 2nd hand (1st hand wasn't nice to it).
    Cheers, Liam

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Millenium first of all is it even working? The reason the buttons are slipping is because the module is not in place correctly. Common issue is that people remove the module and then knock a pusher before installing back. Make sure all pushers are pushed outwards from the inside. Carefully place back in the module and then you can check by gently pushing each one if it touches the contact and then pushes back out. Once all 4 work install caseback .
      I’ve done it many times myself.
      As for hot glue are you sure it’s not battery acid ? Why there would be glue present ?

    • @erebousde
      @erebousde 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyRetroWatches Thank you for answering so quickly! Yes, the watch itself is working almost completely, only the alarm/chime doesn't work anymore. I tried your button method before I wrote the comment and and worked, but it looks like something damaged the left side. The buttons work while the watch is open, but while using it on my wrist put together again especially the left buttons jam again in no time. Also the upper one (mode) seems to be held only by it being bent a little, just a slight tap on top makes it slide out.
      And yes, it definetly is hot glue. It seems to hold the metal plating behind the green plastic cover in place. I'd assume damage to the screw holding the plate down which would lead to the LCD not working correctly due to lack of pressure. I've had that on another watch before, and this seems like a similar problem.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Millenium okay a few things to deal with here. Alarm is easy , probably lost its spring that contact the module to the ceramic part of the caseback. Get a used springbar ( what holds watch bracelets onto watches) break the end off to remove the spring. Cut to a small length and place one end in the hole on the top which is marked “spring” (I think) just be careful though because they are easily lost again if your still tinkering.
      Pushers are held in place by E or C clips . Google them as you can by selection packs of e clips on eBay . Pain to fit but doable easy enough with patience. Join my Facebook group Retro & Vintage Watches & Restorations , post up some pics of your watch and the problems and myself and no doubt others will come in to comment with help.
