I do apologize! I have watched your videos for a number of years. I have finally subscribed!
I have built your 10X10 cabin in my back yard. I live in a small town in South/Western Ontario. My project took me 5 years to build, building on my days off. I cut down the trees, debarked them, dried the logs, and build the cabin. A great family project as my wife, 3 daughters, brothers, and son in law helped in various ways to make it happen. The cabin looks awesome.
All I can say is "Thank You" for letting me borrow your skills and thoughts.
Continue to enjoy the time you have working with your dad. I started this when my dad entered a nursing home. He always asked how it was progressing, but was never able to see the final result.
It is now my little workshop. Also a place for the grand children to play.
Continue to inspire us, and may God always Bless you as you move forward.

He spent this week with his wife and daughter. It's ok if this is old footage. It's still amazing! Hope you enjoyed your time with your family Outsider. I lost my dad to cancer about a year ago, he was only 52. 2 years ago him and I built a small barn so he would have something to open a small engine shop repair business in. Unfortunately, he didn't get the opportunity. Seeing you and your dad during the cabin building series always reminds me of that time I got with my dad.

You just amaze me! There is none that can match your outdoor experiences, videography, angles, effects, fearlessness in the woods alone with wolves, knowledge ( maple tapping, hot water tank, etc.) Simply an outstanding well rounded individual is who you are! And the highest compliment I can give you is you Love The Lord! I sooo look forward to watching your videos! To learn and experience life outdoors with you and you dad!
    Salute! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You might bring additional foil-nacked insulation or space blankets to set up behind the fire and to the sides to reflect heat from the fire into your cabin. That way you could leave the door open without losing so much heat.

You should look into getting a diesel heater, dry heat, safe, sips fuel.
With the small area you have to heat, the heater set at the lowest setting, should keep you warm all night.
It does take a 12v battery to run the fuel pump, but it should last you for a week.

On the side where you put your feet with that little window you should put a table that folds up on that wall. And when ready to use it disconnect a chain or some type of latch and the table will fold down. Kind of like a bed that folds down from the wall in a studio apartment 👍

Oh-My-Gosh!✨🤗✨ Near 70 "Old-fart" here. EVERY time I see you and your dad together doing things, I think how great it will be for you to be able to share with family and friends how you two did things together. My dad and I really never did that 'bonding' thing. He was NOT what you would call a NURTURER... more the bread winner and disciplinarian. We DID occasionally go fishing, but barely ANY form of communication other than when I screwed something up or didn't DO right away when told. Anyway, YOU and your dad_ just SO friggin' awesome to watch.
Thank you for what you bring to my monitor.

More practical DIY innovation, Great! I continue to look forward to Saturday morning and my U-Tube friends. Your journey is informative and inspiring. I purchased an Outsider Flashlight and headband light last year and am satisfied with both. My son rates his headband light Christmas gift as Awsome. The new light appears to have a raised side switch which makes it easier to find, my only suggested improvement in the product. Try bricks in the ammo box...Much bigger more uniform volume over rocks and flat so can easily stack(can even make a little brick oven with the fire / reflector?). You might be able, to trim them to fit in a singular ammo box? Double the insulation, maybe even clad the interior, add a YETI for the Solar panel, 1ft cargo box on the end for extra firewood/ equipment. Mass produce and make the Outsider Mobile Shelter (OMS).
Your Dad's one will be a 7 star Hotel with all the lessons you have learned. This is a very impressive project - nothing but Kudos and respect for you.

I was thinking the same thing, just so you don't lose any heat from inside. You then might need to have a larger fire, but he has a chainsaw and there's got to be a dead or dying balsam near every place he's been, or I assume. Seeing as how they're all dying here in the U.P. of Michigan. Not good for stove fires but perfect for a bonfire.

Whatever the system and whatever time in history we look at, regulating shelter heat has been a challenge to bushcrafters. (And THAT is without dealing with the range of temperatures different individuals regard as being comfortable.

I made a comment in one of your videos saying to run copper lines in and out of your camper but I didn't think of the ventilation situation you did excellent idea,I remember back when I was a kid guys ice fishing would use charcoal in a coffee can run to your open hole on the ice to keep the hole open so it wasn't freezing such they used a 1/4 inch copper line, that stuck in my head when you were experimenting with this similar method...great video and god speed!

  • @entropomorphic

Great video! Another option for thermal battery liquid would be salt water brine. It freezes at -21C, holds potentially more heat than antifreeze (depending on your mixture), and you can mix and discard it on site. Probably easier to bring a bag of salt than a jug of antifreeze. Just a thought!

@The Outsider ... hi there, as I watch this a few months later another thought comes to mind. If you put rocks in the bottom of the fire and stand your lobster pot over them, as the fire dies, the rocks will hold the heat longer than the dead coals, & keep your water hot longer. So far so good but that’s a lot of water to try and heat through a half inch line.(24 foot round above ground pool although 60°F is just plain weird for mid November ya?!) Great idea using a coil, I hope this really turns into something good for you, just keep your passion brother and it will! Thanks for taking us along😉✌🏼

Hmmmm...it would be interesting to investigate attaching a steel-lined insulated wood box under the camper. Perhaps semi-rigid Roxul would work as insulation. Leave an uninsulated space above the box under the floor for the heat to radiate up into the living space and means to get the rocks in and out easily. Radiant underfloor heat!

I enjoyed warming my feet on a hot water bottle in my bed as a child, but I never had any inclination to warm them on a hot rock!
I remember going camping as kids and the adults used to dig long and broad but shallow pits at camp sites during frost season.
They then spread coals from the campfire in the bottom of the depressions and covered them with dirt which used to protect us from frost overnight.

You need and infrared camera with a pan & tilt base, and a small flat screen tv to get a 360 degree view at night to see all the critters that come around. All are available in a 12 volt DC system. (except for the critters)

Use pex and put the heat in the floor. Small holding tank with return coming off the lowest in floor line

I love your videos. Also I bought the flashlight. Your right TrueNight is a good flashlight. You have me hooked now. 😁

Maybe you could create a small rack along that back wall that's slightly raised a bit from your sleeping bag that also has a small hatch you could flip-up to easily slide in your rock ammo boxes from the outside of the camper and then close the hatch and the boxes are snug inside. Just a thought. Love your creativity and your videos!

I was wondering if you ever considered using hand warmers to keep your little shelter warm? It would seem to be safer than heating stones and putting them in ammo cans that may give off a toxic gas that may injure you or burn you. Perhaps you might build a shelf with an edging around it so the ammo boxes will not accidentally fall on you, but yet, be out of the way. I'd also put a tough fabric screen over the vents so a critter could not come into your shelter in the middle of the night. I love your idea about heating your camper with a boiler concept. It is apparent that a lot of thought went into it.

Add pearl light to the sand mix that's what they use in rocket stoves to hold heat

i think what may help is getting a folding camper canvas chair/table .maybe build a storage cubby on the back for it, that way you arent constantly opening the door and losing all that built up heat that your cans are working so hard to generate. also, id get a piece of foamboard and fill the vent...and drill a hole for the hose to run out for evaporation. temporarily , that way you arent losing more heat opening that whole vent all nite and letting more heat escape since heat does rise. you should have enough air flow through the gap above the door. i would also get a thermal mat under the wool blanket /sleeping bag to retain heat. , but it would help retain heat and be more comfy to snuggle down into. actually you could ...store all your bedding in that space over head... just use a locking hinged horizontal shelf. from back wall to frt no space wasted ;];] you could also swing it up againist the roof and use a sliding bolt lock to hold it there..so it doesnt fall when not in use..and it wont be in your way. just drop your bedding onto the floor, push shelf up to roof line and latch in place. make your bed up .done. im sure it would help from dragging your bedding in/out all the time;];];] just an idea to help with storage;];];] great video also;];];] no snow yet in maine, but the nights are asking for it....stay safe!!!

I still have the TC15 from when you first released it. I absolutely love it and it still works flawlessly today, but it looks like I'll be getting another one soon.
I love the upgrades they have done in the new one and I look forward to getting one soon for my EDC!

I think that if the coils outside ever cool below the shelter temp, then the process will reverse and draw heat out of the shelter. Maybe close a valve at the proper time. A small temp alarm on the tank...??
