Bruh, my entire life I thought a wood chuck was a job. Like a lumberjack or something because the phrase, (How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?) implies it to be a job. It was today at 31 years old I learned a woodchuck is an animal!

Aw yes! I have one in my yard, who comes out to grub every single day from 11am-2pm. Ill leave some goodies out if we have leftover peas or green beans, or leftover fruit! I call him/her Chet! (Can’t tell if it’s a boy or girl 😅)

I feed one I named Farley (after Chris Farley) as well - and not sure it is the same one, but, it has been 3 years this guy (or gal) has been visiting my yard for carrots and apples I put out. Today, I got a surprise, and Farley was eating when a "friend" came along and wanted to eat as well! There was some "talk" between them (not friendly either) and then Farley slapped the new one in the head and it ran to the other side of the yard! So, now I have 2 groundhogs visiting my yard and food. I named the 2nd groundhog Spade after David Spade - so, Farley and Spade are my outdoor pets, along with all the squirrels and birds I feed. I would love to have baby groundhogs visit my yard!
I have one as well. He climbs up a dead tree that is fence high and sits up there every morning.

I just caught the woodchuck that took up residence on my property in a Havahart trap today. I took him to some parklands and released him into the best playground he’ll ever know.
Your garden was protected with no predator in it, he chose it because it was the best for him. Animals living in close proximity with humans learn quickly the advantages this proximity brings 😉

Think I saw one at the park today cleaning himself by an icy river, this little fella looks a lot like him. I couldn't get a great look at him, only by binoculars along my side of the river through tree branches. I'd love to see one up close!

Daily routine? This isn’t even part of a part of a day of a woodchuck. It’s a woodchuck coming out of its burrow to investigate a camera, definitely not part of its normal routine.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Granted, I wouldn't want a bunch of groundhog nests under my house, if I didn't have a basement. If you have a full basement, they aren't going to dig tunnels underneath of your basement. We've had groundhogs that occasionally use a large den that reaches underneath 2 large sheds. But it's never caused any problems, and they aren't there year around, because they tend to move from den to den during the year. Plus, they hibernate for at least 4+ months in winter here in Delaware. They have previously eaten some parts of garden and ornamental plants that I've grown, but I just put 2-3 foot tall chicken wire around them, and that's the end of it.
I like groundhogs, and I occasionally feed them. People tend to be afraid of things they don't understand, and they tend to be completely intolerant of even the most insignificant "inconveniences". But most of it is completely unnecessary, and they'd actually be happier if they learned to live with groundhogs, and get to know more about them. They are nowhere near as problematic as raccoons 'can' be, but even they can be tolerated.

It's just a lowland marmot. Groundhogs(Marmota Monax) is the only species of marmot that lives away from mountainous areas. Other marmot species live mostly in high mountainous regions everywhere but south America, Australia and Antarctic. From the high Himalayas, to the European and Asian ranges, to the north American rockies, and other ranges in Canada and Alaska.

He looks too fat to fit into that little tunnel, but at the end of the video he is spooked by something, and he goes from being 2 feet away from the hole, then he gets through the hole and down the tunnel and out of sight in less than 1 second! They appear to be a little obese and uncoordinated at time, but they can nimbly run and bolt through narrow areas as fast as any animal I can think of.

Lame! 2 days ago I was walking to the store to buy beer and I saw my woodchuck about 100 meters from his borrow. This dude is obviously aware of the camera is being cautious about leaving his burrow because of it.

Yep. We were good until they got so aggressive that they destroyed my garden and sunflower patch. I captured the entire family of 5 and released them together...miles away and over the river. Lol.
