This is definitely a reality check. My Mom suffered a stroke in January, then she fell and broke her ankle, and had to have surgery. She's been bedridden since, and it's so hard to convince her to let me bring her out to the living room to hang out. She turned 79 in March. Part of me think she's just over it. She barely drinks, barely eats. We just put her on antidepressants so I'm crossing my fingers it helps. Sending prayers to you and your family. 💜🙏

My heartfelt sympathies for your loss. We thought we had everything in place for my husband, an air force veteran, who unfortunately suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving and now has advanced dementia from that injury. However, the VA only covers certain aspects of the funeral process, most of which is reimbursement once everything has been paid for, but not all the additional expenses that are not covered.

I'm in my 50's and not well (COPD), and I have still not done either a will or even thought about funeral costs, this was a wake up call for me, which needed to happen.
The cost of a funeral can be insane here in the US. I started my funeral plan in 2019 which set the price so it will not cost more by the time I die. That price for mine is just under $7000 usd. The plot in the ground is separate cost through my city. That includes the vault in the ground, $500. I am now 43years old. My payment plan makes it so all I have to pay every month is 74$ a month. I made the decision to set up my funeral plan because my dad had a sudden massive heart attack at only 53 yrs old. My mom was left holding the bag. He had no plan, no savings, no assets to sell. I dont want to do the same thing to her. I say that because I will most likely die before she does. It's my health, it's family history and... my Autistic son predicted it. Anyway, yeah funerals are so expensive. I havent even started on my own headstone yet which can cost from 4oo$ to 4000$ depending on how fancy,big, or shit like that.

My Dad died 23 years ago🌻. I cried when you showed that beautiful footage of the grounds. I don't think you ever get over the loss of a parent. Thankyou for taking us with you & showing us around. My Mum has prepaid her funeral. My sister & I went with her when she finalised everything, & she asked us out of some she selected what flowers & what coffin we liked. We ended up all liking the same things. In Australia if you prepay a funeral, it remains at that price.

My sister passed in January and her expenses were over $17K here in Louisiana. She had life insurance but the bill had to be paid in full to proceed with the arrangements.

Losing a parent is the absolute worst. I lost my dad in 2019 and I think about him at some point everyday. I see so many things he'd like, interesting facts and he never got to try the meatloaf I make which it a twist on his recipe. I miss him so much it hurts. My condolences to you and your family. ❤️❤️

I lost my mom 7 years ago in May. It was the day after Mother's Day, and it was very unexpected. My sister and I had no clue what to do. My dad couldn't do much because he had dementia and we were taking care of him. When we got to the funeral home, all of our family was there and they actually paid for everything. We were very shocked and emotional because my sister and I were just talking about how can we pay for things. Things will slowly get better but that sting will always be there. You are so right, you have to put your things in order in advance. So important. Always have a will!! I know here in Canada we can go to a notary and it is about $475. Just went through it with my sister, my mom is already taken care of in advance. My sister was a shock. Again, all my sympathies to you and the family ❤
I lost my dad back in December. I can't remember how much everything was, because we had to fly his body back to his home. I actually helped carry him to his final resting spot, and I helped bury him. It was very tough.

Thank you Omar for posting this. I just went through this with my mom unexpectedly in April. She wanted to be buried and had life insurance. But the thing with life insurance ours was explained that after the first payment she could pass the next day and it would pay out so we believed that. Well when she did pass my SIL was reading the policy and in the fine print she had to have it a year before it would pay out completely and she didn't the only thing we got back was only what we had already paid in. So anybody doing life insurance plz ask more questions and if you are still unsure read the fine print. I ended up having to cremate her which I always said I would never do. Which cremation is not a bad thing I just didn't like the idea of it. I know now it's more of the cheaper way when funds are limited but for some reason it's been way harder on me than burying her. As an only child to a single mother who was my rock I do understand being close to mom. I'm so sorry for yours and your families loss. I wouldn't wish this heart break and pain on anyone. Losing a parent is the absolute worst. I lost my dad in 2019 and I think about him at some point everyday. I see so many things he'd like, interesting facts and he never got to try the meatloaf I make which it a twist on his recipe. I miss him so much it hurts. My condolences to you and your family. ❤️❤️
I burried my Mam on 17th Dec'19. She did not leave a will nor had a funeral plan. The idea of an email is a fantastic idea and so easily done. My heart goes out to you and your family. It is a hole in the heart that can never be filled.❤

I lost my mom 7 years ago in May. It was the day after Mother's Day, and it was very unexpected. My sister and I had no clue what to do. My dad couldn't do much because he had dementia and we were taking care of him. When we got to the funeral home, all of our family was there and they actually paid for everything. We were very shocked and emotional because my sister and I were just talking about how can we pay for things. Things will slowly get better but that sting will always be there. That is the only way I can explain it. I'm so sorry for your loss♥ Thank you for sharing this with us!
You are so right, you have to put your things in order in advance. So important. Always have a will!! I know here in Canada we can go to a notary and it is about $475. Just went through it with my sister, my mom is already taken care of in advance. My sister was a shock. Again, all my sympathies to you and the family ❤

I lost my dad back in December. I can't remember how much everything was, because we had to fly his body back to his home. I actually helped carry him to his final resting spot, and I helped bury him. It was very tough.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I can honestly say I know how hard it is because I lost both my parents and my dad from cancer in "2014" and my mother died last year in January. God will heal your heart but you miss them so much and hearing their sweet voices.

Omar I'm so so sorry for your loss. I know how hard this is to bury someone you are so close to. Almost five years ago I buried my 17 year old daughter. Hardest day in my life. It still affects me everyday. 😢 Just remember your mom is in a place of peace and with family. God bless you through these painful days. And thank you for sharing your grief. Thank you Omar for posting this. I just went through this with my mom unexpectedly in April. She wanted to be buried and had life insurance. But the thing with life insurance ours was explained that after the first payment she could pass the next day and it would pay out so we believed that. Well when she did pass my SIL was reading the policy and in the fine print she had to have it a year before it would pay out completely and she didn't the only thing we got back was only what we had already paid in. So anybody doing life insurance plz ask more questions and if you are still unsure read the fine print. I ended up having to cremate her which I always said I would never do. Which cremation is not a bad thing I just didn't like the idea of it. I know now it's more of the cheaper way when funds are limited but for some reason it's been way harder on me than burying her. As an only child to a single mother who was my rock I do understand being close to mom. I'm so sorry for yours and your families loss. I wouldn't wish this heart break and pain on anyone. My brother was cremated and his ashes were thrown onto Mt. Hood. He lived in Hood River Oregon. He loved this town and his Mt. Hood!
