One more reason of the downfall of comics is that, In early days, parents/teachers/school consider comics a bad influence. So the system of reading comics was never encouraged at all. We all read it under the blanket. So you see, its never been accepted in society neither these comics companies ever tried to correct parents/ school about this thought process. I still feel comics helps in inculcating good reading habits apart from concentration. Everything has a downside if we pull it to extreme. But reading comics in those era was a crime, we all got beatings for reading comics and finally everyone gave up.
I remember Raj comics was so popular in the 90s when we were even buying them in black. Some shops were selling them for Rs 8 when its original cost was only Rs6.00.

मुझे ना तो उनका न्यू प्रिंट ही अच्छा लगा था और ना ही बड़ा हुआ रेट।आज भी कोई पुरानी कोमिक्स पड़ने में उतना ही मजा आएगा जितना तब आया था।क्या रोमांच था यार।पहले ही बुक कर आते थे।अदला बदली करना।वापिस ना करना।फिर जो रेट आए और प्रिंट बदला तो लगने भी लगा था अपना टाइम गया।बस यही तक था सफर।क्युकी कहानियां भी काफी हाई टेक कर दी थी।ओल्ड की स्टोरी सिम्पल और मजेदार थी।वो समय बहुत ही गोल्डन टाइम था भाईयो।आप सभी जिन्होंने वो समय जिया है सभी को नमस्कार
बाद में तो लगता था कि हिंदी कॉमिक नही अमेरिकन पढ़ रहा हूं, ग्राफिक्स बिल्कुल घटिया हो गया था,लड़कियों का भी सिक्स पैक एंड फिगर इस टाइप का की कोई xx किताब पढ़ रहा लगता था ,खासकर राज में
भाई तुमने बचपन की याद दिला दी 😭। अंगारा की ये कॉमिक्स मेरे पास थी। बचपन में सब कुछ रियल लगता था । भाई तुमने सिर्फ राज कॉमिक्स को फोकस किया है जबकि मनोज कॉमिक्स और तुलसी कॉमिक्स भी बहुत बड़े ब्रांड थे । उस समय 6 रुपये की एक कॉमिक्स और 16 रुपये की डाइजेस्ट आती थी बाद में महाडाइजेस्ट भी आई लगभग 40 50 रुपये की , जिसके पन्ने एक फुट बड़े होते थे । उस समय भी कॉमिक्स खरीदना महंगा पड़ता था ।तो हम बच्चे लोग मिलकर किराये से कॉमिक्स ले आते थे और पूरे मोहल्ले में बाँट कर पढ़ते थे उस समय कॉमिक्स उपन्न्यास मैगज़ीन की लाइब्रेरी हुआ करती थी 1 रुपये किराया होता था हर महीने नए सेट का इंतजार होता था । एक सेट में अलग अलग करेक्टर के ऊपर अगले भाग की कहानी होती थी।मेरे पास 8-10 बोरा भरके कॉमिक्स , चम्पक , नन्हें सम्राट , सुमन सौरभ बाल हंस जैसी अनेको पत्रिकायें थीं। 80s और 90s का दौर मैने देखा है जिया है एन्जॉय किया है । आज के जैसे नहीं कि मोबाइल में बच्चे टाइम वेस्ट करते हैं । हमलोग स्कूल की छुट्टी होने के बाद कभी घर जल्दी नहीं जाते थे सायकिल से कभी किसी दोस्त के यहाँ तो कभी किसी के यहाँ , घर लेट आने पर डांट पड़ती थी । ख़ैर वो सब पास्ट में ग़ुज़र गया ।

I desperately want to buy the old Indian comics. I hope it gets revived. I recently purchased DC Joker and its cost is Rs 750/. That budget could have bought me at least 10 Indian comics ( Don't know the exact rate, assuming 75 a book)❤️
Man this video took me back in time - so nostalgic....I was a big Super Commando Dhruv fan - I feel some his stories were really ahead of his time and movies can be made out of many of them. Great work
Problem is legacy... we never got good artist and writer after golden generation.... once the great artist from Raj comics put down pen you will see.. the first 100 issues of Dhruva were amazing still today.... Mout Ka Olympic and Roman Hatthyra are best stories...the small issues were amazing the the suspense in Dhruva comics was lost with new comics I say after khooni Khandan it died.....My most beloved comics is Nakshtra till date even the Marval or Dc comics cant compet with date.... and don't compare Japanese Manga in comic category....they are ART totally next leve fro any graphic book category...
you are right bro. Japan created and promoted their comics heavily. Fans expectations from manga is always sky-high and competition is huge. That's why their comic industry is much larger and sell much more copies than ever American comics! If we had the same competition, resources, artists and expectations from eaders, Indian comic industry would have been booming right now. I'm a teenager but I read a lot of Diamond Comics. Pinki was always my personal favorite ❤️️

@@megacat75 Pran's comics were those lovely wholesome everyday (yet extraordinary) panels. Everybody read him regardless of age :') I used to read them a lot when I was kid on my way to nanighar. They sold them so cheap at railway stations. Nowadays it's difficult to find any kind of books at all lol.
Super Commando Dhruv was an incredibly well written character. His origins story in Pratishodh ki Jwala was so engrossing that even two decades later I can vividly remember the different frames and the illustrations. I always thought if they ever made him into a movie Ajay Devgn (in his youth) would have killed it!

Rohit bhai still I believe the content was the main problem. Raj comics missed connection with their hardcore readers. When we were child we used to love them but later Raj comics took their readers for granted

पहले राज कॉमिक्स 5₹ की थीं फिर 7₹ और फिर 8₹ हुईं। विषेषांक का मूल्य केवल 15₹ रहता था। और जब फाइटर टोड्स के साथ प्रेत अंकल की भी launching हुई तो इनकीं कीमत 20₹ रखी गईं क्योंकि इनकीं size बड़ी थी। लेकिन जब पहली बार "राजनगर की तबाही" की launching हुई तब कीमत 25₹ कर दी थीं। इसके बाद वर्ष 2010 में मल्टी star विशेषांक *इति कांड" ली तब इसकी कीमत 100₹ थी।

Raj comics had a long vision about their fan following and their viewers. No doubt their story writing and so amazing art have created a tremendous amount of fans and viewers. I agree the technology was so costly at that time. But at present, India is also capable to give a rebirth to our Indian superheroes. As a true fan of our superheroes, I really support and respect the writers and the hard work of the artists behind. It's time to comeback again with a huge explosion...
I am from Nepal....When I was teen, Indian comics were very popular here in Nepal. We were fans of Nagraj, Dhruba, Doga, Fighter Toads...In my opinion, the failure of comics is cursed to Internet and TH-cam....Now, in Nepal and India, “Reading Culture” has been disappeared. Definitely, culprit is Internet.
I recall raj comics that even had single story horror comics. They were genuinely terrifying, i recall 1 "ek katora khoon" and there were several that were added to news stories as causing controversy.
i was a regular reader of Raj comics. Used to buy whole set at day 1. 16 Rupees for visheshank of 60 pages comic and 5 units of 30 pages comic for 8 Rs

Agar kisi ka stuff aa sakta hai to sirf RC ka, baki koi scene me hi nhi hai. RC should start working on it.

Sir, Tulsi Comics & Manoj comics 80s,90s ke comics thay, Raj Comics started in 90s Maine Saare Comics kharide hai but quit Raj Comics after 2010 they Started 3D drawings which was not great & they Increased the prices also for 25page comics@ 50rs & 50page comics @100rs. I was addicted to Nagraj,Dhruv,Doga Comics but had to Quit as They became Costlier way above my Pocket money

Also Doga wali movie se kaafi umeed pr film isliye ruk gyi, kyunki shi samay pr response nhi mila. Doga acha start deta pr market main wo craze nhi dikha jitna director producer chah rhe the. Maybe Dhruv or Nagraj would have garnered more popularity. Animated series ke liye bohot paisa lagtha hai. Even after putting loads of money it can look very simple and people might reject it saying "Are ye tho comics ka 50 % bhi nahi hai". Then it will be huge loss. Ya kisi aise startup animation studio doondna padega jo Hollywood ke liye outsourcing work kartha hai.. Vo log quality ka banyenge..
"Angara" may sound illogical today but it used to be my favorite comic during childhood LOl😁😁😁 I loved the character of villian " Charlie" a small superboy who lose his power in Darkness and Chili a "batboy"who lose his power in water.
Time के साथ सब बदलता है। 1990 के टाइम कंप्यूटर, इंटरनेट नही था। उस समय मैगज़ीन भी खूब छपती थी। किराए पर लोग TV, वीडियो प्लेयर लेकर 4 फिल्मे देखते थे। पर 2000 में कम्यूटर, इंटरनेट , स्मार्ट फ़ोन ने सब बदल दिया। अब कार्टून चैनल, वीडियो गेम, वेबसाइट, यूटयूब चैनल आ गए। तो प्रिंट कॉमिक्स के दिन बीत गए। आजकल के छोटे बच्चे भी लैपटॉप, स्मार्टफोन चलाते हैं।

Is Raj comics closed since last year? They are not replying to any orders or even for app, Also I have some comics purchased and downloaded in app but they are now not available in store section, so I think they have removed many comics from app and web store also😭

Very Accurate and Right on Point. Agree to every thing you said. Moreover, Raj Comics should come out with a Web Series, Animated Shows, readers today still love reading those story lines. Marvel and DC are doing the same. Raj comics have some of the best story lines available today.
Cost was also an issue, with time cost of comics increased also new age writers focuses more on making audience laugh sometimes forcibly which today's generation dont enjoy, like tinkle comics it has lost its old world charm which focused on educating and entertaining young minds, but after the death of uncle pai, new age editors and authors have completely lost the plot...period

First of all thanks for making such an informative video, I was found of Comics in my childhood and spend all of my pocket money on it. I had started with Phantom & Mandrix and read all the available Hindi comics like Dimond, Tulsi, Raj & others. You missed mentioning Banke lal & Faulaadi sigh here. What are the days it was! I think Comics were gone with more mythological than rational in the late 90s and at the same time, Yahoo & orkut grabbed all the attention of the youth. India is one of the top country that had a great decline in reading books in the past few decades.
@@Eren-da-Jaeger we didn't patronize them. We accepted sub standard comics. Then when we were exposed to DC and Marvel, we didn't look back at them. The Indian publishing houses didn't bother to upgrade because we didn't demand better artwork or content. DC and Marvel hold regular Comic cons (conference) where people get to meet the artists and other creators. Post 90s liberalisation world comics and graphic novels have transformed to 21st century while we were stuck in the stone age. Long story short: Doordarshan in 1980s and .. i don't know, is it still on air?
@@anshumanbhattacharya5020 tru tho, we are too accustomed to not asking for better things, thats why Universal Chinese products sold in India are sub standard compared to their counter part in Aus or UK. We have got too habitual to not raise voice, not ask, just go with the flow and comfortable with whatever we get. Cars for that matter in India, no middle class person had opportunity to drive any v6,v8 or v12 sports car.
It's true that.. Raj comics was and is always better then all other publishers. However today even they are struggling. Golden period of Raj comics too was from 90's to mid 2000. Later they too have loose the charm. Main problem with the Raj comics in late 2000 was the new artist they introduced were not at all close to Anupam sir and others. Also the stories the new writers has written was way too complicated. I was hardcore comic reader. Even today I buy them. But now hardly I see any book stalls selling comics.

Early to late 90s, I was hooked on to the comics those days. In fact all our friends were crazy about Raj Comics especially. We could rent it for 25p,50p and 1Rs I remember. Golden days...ohh I miss them.

Diamond comics was like Disney, family friendly, you could even find them in school libraries, next to champak. Manoj comics was like DreamWorks, small but loyal following. Raj comics became DC comics, the most mainstream success, they also took most risks.

Raj Comics had many great characters and it was popular during the 90s because the artwork was great, compelling story lines, cheap prices and basically we didn’t have access to internet and movies for entertainment. At this age, Raj comics would have to directly compete with Marvel and DC comics. The modern day readers can easily find the plagiarism/ inspiration behind many of the characters like Tiranga, Doga etc. Also it can’t compete with multi million dollar worth movies and TV show. I still remember the excitement that I had felt when I saw an advertisement in a comics saying that Nagraj will come as a TV show. And mostly, at this age, when there’s so many forms of entertainment, only a fraction of people turns to reading, so even a smaller subset of those people will read comics.
i still buy raj comics on it's app. Just completed Nagayan again and now reading Sarvyodha series. I would say storywise they have lots their old touch. But I will keep reading these comics. These characters means alot to me.

One more reason of the downfall of comics is that, In early days, parents/teachers/school consider comics a bad influence. So the system of reading comics was never encouraged at all. We all read it under the blanket. So you see, its never been accepted in society neither these comics companies ever tried to correct parents/ school about this thought process. I still feel comics helps in inculcating good reading habits apart from concentration. Everything has a downside if we pull it to extreme. But reading comics in those era was a crime, we all got beatings for reading comics and finally everyone gave up.
I remember Raj comics was so popular in the 90s when we were even buying them in black. Some shops were selling them for Rs 8 when its original cost was only Rs6.00.

भाई तुमने बचपन की याद दिला दी 😭। अंगारा की ये कॉमिक्स मेरे पास थी। बचपन में सब कुछ रियल लगता था । भाई तुमने सिर्फ राज कॉमिक्स को फोकस किया है जबकि मनोज कॉमिक्स और तुलसी कॉमिक्स भी बहुत बड़े ब्रांड थे । उस समय 6 रुपये की एक कॉमिक्स और 16 रुपये की डाइजेस्ट आती थी बाद में महाडाइजेस्ट भी आई लगभग 40 50 रुपये की , जिसके पन्ने एक फुट बड़े होते थे । उस समय भी कॉमिक्स खरीदना महंगा पड़ता था ।तो हम बच्चे लोग मिलकर किराये से कॉमिक्स ले आते थे और पूरे मोहल्ले में बाँट कर पढ़ते थे उस समय कॉमिक्स उपन्न्यास मैगज़ीन की लाइब्रेरी हुआ करती थी 1 रुपये किराया होता था हर महीने नए सेट का इंतजार होता था । एक सेट में अलग अलग करेक्टर के ऊपर अगले भाग की कहानी होती थी।मेरे पास 8-10 बोरा भरके कॉमिक्स , चम्पक , नन्हें सम्राट , सुमन सौरभ बाल हंस जैसी अनेको पत्रिकायें थीं। 80s और 90s का दौर मैने देखा है जिया है एन्जॉय किया है । आज के जैसे नहीं कि मोबाइल में बच्चे टाइम वेस्ट करते हैं । हमलोग स्कूल की छुट्टी होने के बाद कभी घर जल्दी नहीं जाते थे सायकिल से कभी किसी दोस्त के यहाँ तो कभी किसी के यहाँ , घर लेट आने पर डांट पड़ती थी ।

Problem is legacy... we never got good artist and writer after golden generation.... once the great artist from Raj comics put down pen you will see.. the first 100 issues of Dhruva were amazing still today.... Mout Ka Olympic and Roman Hatthyra are best stories...the small issues were amazing the the suspense in Dhruva comics was lost with new comics I say after khooni Khandan it died.....My most beloved comics is Nakshtra till date even the Marval or Dc comics cant compet with date.... and don't compare Japanese Manga in comic category....they are ART totally next leve fro any graphic book category...

I used to read them a lot when I was kid on my way to nanighar. They sold them so cheap at railway stations. Nowadays it's difficult to find any kind of books at all lol.

Super Commando Dhruv was an incredibly well written character. His origins story in Pratishodh ki Jwala was so engrossing that even two decades later I can vividly remember the different frames and the illustrations. I always thought if they ever made him into a movie Ajay Devgn (in his youth) would have killed it!

Sir, Tulsi Comics & Manoj comics 80s,90s ke comics thay, Raj Comics started in 90s Maine Saare Comics kharide hai but quit Raj Comics after 2010 they Started 3D drawings which was not great & they Increased the prices also for 25page comics@ 50rs & 50page comics @100rs. I was addicted to Nagraj,Dhruv,Doga Comics but had to Quit as They became Costlier way above my Pocket money

Huge fan of Super commando Dhruv, n it's creator Mr Anupam Sinha, though I detest it's new over glamorized look. Used to be great Sci fi stores. Infact I learnt to draw, using his animations. Had a huge collection of magnetic stickers.....
Thanks for clearing my confusion. I used to think that the rise in prices and growth of visual technology were responsible for the comic decline.

सबसे बड़ा रीज़न कॉमिक्स इंडस्ट्री फेल होने का यही हैं की इन्होने शक्तिमान सीरियल से कुछ नहीं सीखा इतने सालो में बॉलीवुड वाले चदरमोद एनीमेशन के नाम पर हुतिया बनाये हुए हैं और एनीमेशन नहीं हैं ,vfx नहीं हैं ,बजट नहीं हैं और लोढ़ा लहसुन वगैरह.हर बार बाहुबली 💪 जैसी बढ़िया फिल्मे नहीं बना सकता हर कोई , और साउथ इंडिया काफी आगे हैं.बॉलीवुड में वैसे 200-500 करोड़ो रुपए खर्च करके गोबर बना देंगे पर 2-3 करोड़ खर्च करके कुछ बढ़िया नहीं दिखाएंगे , हॉलीवुड क्यों इस रेस में 🏇आगे हैं और रहेगा और क्यों "अवेंजर्स"🚀 मूवी वर्ल्ड की सबसे बड़ी मूवी बनी क्यूँकि वहां के लोगों ने अपने कॉमिक्स📔📘📙 करेक्टर को आज भी जिन्दा रखा ,,अरे शक्तिमान♨ सीरियल का हिट होना सबसे बड़ा उदाहरण हैं ,हमारे यहाँ कॉमिक्स 📒📖📗सिर्फ़ स्टेशन 🚊पर या फिर दिल्ली के कुछ बड़े एरिया🏰🏢 तक ही ज़िंदा हैं. इसमें गलती कॉमिक्स वालो की भी हैं , यह खुद भी किसी भी तरफ से चाहते तो सक्सेस🚵 की तरफ चलते. आज अकेले एक आदमी के बचाने से थोड़ी ना बच जाएगी कॉमिक्स इंडस्ट्री , भारतीय कॉमिक्स को जीवित रखने के लिए इनके किरदारों में जान फूंकनी पड़ेगी. अरे लांच कर दो *#सलमानखान* को #नागराज🐍 के रूप में , पहना दो #डोगा🐶 की ड्रेस *#अक्षयकुमार* को , बना दो #परमाणु🌐 *#ह्रितिकरोशन* को , *#अजयदेवगन* को सिंघम के पुलिसिए अवतार में देखने के बाद देखो #इंस्पेक्टरस्टील👨 के रूप में , #कोबी😺 की दरिंदगी दिखा दो " 👉 *#जॉनअब्राहम* में , और भी किरदार हैं पर कुछ तो करो बेवकूफों. फिल्म ना सही वेब-सीरीज ही बना दो. वरना हिलाते रहो हुतियो.

Very Accurate and Right on Point. Agree to every thing you said. Moreover, Raj Comics should come out with a Web Series, Animated Shows, readers today still love reading those story lines. Marvel and DC are doing the same. Raj comics have some of the best story lines available today.
Cost was also an issue, with time cost of comics increased also new age writers focuses more on making audience laugh sometimes forcibly which today's generation dont enjoy, like tinkle comics it has lost its old world charm which focused on educating and entertaining young minds, but after the death of uncle pai, new age editors and authors have completely lost the plot...period

First of all thanks for making such an informative video, I was found of Comics in my childhood and spend all of my pocket money on it. I had started with Phantom & Mandrix and read all the available Hindi comics like Dimond, Tulsi, Raj & others. You missed mentioning Banke lal & Faulaadi sigh here. What are the days it was! I think Comics were gone with more mythological than rational in the late 90s and at the same time, Yahoo & orkut grabbed all the attention of the youth. India is one of the top country that had a great decline in reading books in the past few decades.

@@Eren-da-Jaeger we didn't patronize them. We accepted sub standard comics. Then when we were exposed to DC and Marvel, we didn't look back at them. The Indian publishing houses didn't bother to upgrade because we didn't demand better artwork or content. DC and Marvel hold regular Comic cons (conference) where people get to meet the artists and other creators. Post 90s liberalisation world comics and graphic novels have transformed to 21st century while we were stuck in the stone age. Long story short: Doordarshan in 1980s and .. i don't know, is it still on air?
@@anshumanbhattacharya5020 tru tho, we are too accustomed to not asking for better things, thats why Universal Chinese products sold in India are sub standard compared to their counter part in Aus or UK. We have got too habitual to not raise voice, not ask, just go with the flow and comfortable with whatever we get. Cars for that matter in India, no middle class person had opportunity to drive any v6,v8 or v12 sports car.
It's true that.. Raj comics was and is always better then all other publishers. However today even they are struggling. Golden period of Raj comics too was from 90's to mid 2000. Later they too have loose the charm. Main problem with the Raj comics in late 2000 was the new artist they introduced were not at all close to Anupam sir and others. Also the stories the new writers has written was way too complicated. I was hardcore comic reader. Even today I buy them. But now hardly I see any book stalls selling comics.

Early to late 90s, I was hooked on to the comics those days. In fact all our friends were crazy about Raj Comics especially. We could rent it for 25p,50p and 1Rs I remember. Golden days...ohh I miss them.

Manoj comics was like DreamWorks, small but loyal following.

Raj Comics had many great characters and it was popular during the 90s because the artwork was great, compelling story lines, cheap prices and basically we didn’t have access to internet and movies for entertainment. At this age, Raj comics would have to directly compete with Marvel and DC comics. The modern day readers can easily find the plagiarism/ inspiration behind many of the characters like Tiranga, Doga etc. Also it can’t compete with multi million dollar worth movies and TV show. I still remember the excitement that I had felt when I saw an advertisement in a comics saying that Nagraj will come as a TV show. And mostly, at this age, when there’s so many forms of entertainment, only a fraction of people turns to reading, so even a smaller subset of those people will read comics.

i still buy raj comics on it's app. Just completed Nagayan again and now reading Sarvyodha series. I would say storywise they have lots their old touch. But I will keep reading these comics. These characters means alot to me.
