I was 6 living on Morton street, going to Roosevelt Elementary in Hyde Park. My Aunt had JUST bought her house in Fields Corner off Geneva Ave. This brings back STRONG memories for me. My mom had just bought a VCR and we'd rent movies from this place down in Ashmont across from the T. On Saturdays we'd take the bus to Ashmont. Take the train to Downtown crossing I'd run wild in Filienes Basement. Proud to be born and raised in Boston. Now I'm in Texas, but Boston will ALWAYS be home.
Omg . At this time 1983 I was 5 years old, I'm pretty sure I was living at fendale Ave in Dorchester,. Wow. I love seeing videos like this to see what actually is no longer there anymore today is the year 2023 It just blows my mind that back then I used to say to myself where would I be in 40 years. Bam!!!!!! Here I am now... And just to see all things it's not there anymore. And remember going they're as a kid or even a teenager. If he grew up in Dorchester ma babbby
Aaaaaaaah Boston Your My Home . What memories I use to operate a woodworking shop out of the old “Baker Chocolate Factory in Dot Lower Mills and for a time worked also in my late teens rehabbing old triple decors all the way to and on Columbia Rd in the hood. I’ve since been all around this world several times .
This was taken the year after I was born, and I grew up in the area near the end of the video, right where Adams turns onto Gallivan. The Eire pub is still there!
I was trying to search for 70's videos to see how my parents used to live but by this time they went down to the Cape. I still wanted to see it in the early 80's though because I know it wouldn't have changed much by then.
Born here, still here👌🏾/// B's. If one got hit by one of those cars back in the day, it would be dam near a zero % survival rate 😂 Funny how when u see yellow construction truck/Snap truck here they still same of today 😂 Who'd think back then to film to put it up in the future? A bright mind.
Many people would be shocked to see that Ashmont Hill,Melville Ave and Cedar Grove are part of Dorchester. Those sections are beautiful? What was shown in this video is what many think of when they think of Dorchester.
And somewhere in that neighborhood, there were 5 (well, 4, Joe is from Jamaica Plains) young boys who had no idea that in 5 years time, the stars in their eyes would become real.
I grew up on the South Shore but at this time I was working my first full time job out of college down in Florida and I had come back in January 1985. Dorchester was so different then before the gentrification. Granted it was run down, a bit poorer, a some blight in some areas but it wasn't hideously expensive like it is today. The people in this video seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the young white men there were engaged in athletic pursuits or just hanging out. And everyone was so fit and trim compared to now!
I'm from Scotland and I'm an observer that loves geography, social history and the past i.e. the 80's and I kinda had a sneaking suspicion there might be a chance and Irish pub would make an appearance in the video. Good old Mass. Haha
Boston in general was rough back then. Dorchester is honestly still considered a bad area by most people but most people also don’t realize that its the biggest section of boston there are nice neighborhoods in dorchester too. R u thinking of moving there?
